Finallly!!! I found a hair stylist that i am happy with! For years I resorted to flying back & forth from LA to get my cuts, straight perms, keratin treatments and dye. I tried every salon in Manhattan, expensive & cheap with no success. My hair got so long that I just couldn’t wait for my next trip to LA and walked into OSH. Got a cut from Andrew Oh and he spent the next 30 – 45 minutes meticulously trimming away. Then he did a «lift perm» which i didn’t even know existed!!! Every morning for 20 years, i would use a curling iron to try and get some lift & volume on the top of my 2 hours, he fixed my 20 year problem AND gave me the best haircut i’ve had in 10 years! He also recommended gel hair dye for next time since i have a sensitive scalp so as not to touch the skin. All the other hair stylists i asked about this issue couldn’t give me a resolution. BRAVO! I finally found a salon in manhattan worth the time and money!

Jk is the best seriously. My hair has always been long my whole life for i feared short hair. Didn’t think it would look nice. But After JK cut it short since I wanted to try something new after hitting my 30s, I got the most compliments ever on my hair even from strangers. My husband also loves my short cut. I want to look clean, professional, and elegant at the time and JK nailed it! Even though it’s more than what I would normally pay for a haircut, it’s worth every penny! Thanks JK!

This place is so good, I’ve selfishly resisted writing a review because I didn’t want anyone else to know. The true quality of a salon is how consistently they can deliver over time. A great haircut is one thing, but an excellent cut you can depend on is next level — especially for Asian hair if you’re a guy. I’ve been going for almost 2 years and every single time I leave impressed. Andrew is an artist. Every single time, he is masterful, precise and consistent. I’d trust him to cut my hair if my wedding was tomorrow because he’s that good. The experience and service from the rest of the staff is excellent as well. You start with an initial wash, the cut, shampoo + massage and then finishing touches and style. In all it takes about an hour. Gets busy on the weekends but just make your appointment in advance and you’ll be fine.

At first, I was a bit nervous giving this place a try because I didn’t know what to expect and I have never had a great experience at any hair salons. However, after reading the reviews, I was convinced enough to make my trek out here. I made an appointment pretty last minute because I needed a cut for my sister’s graduation the day of. Luckily, they had a spot for me with Kann who had some great positive reviews by fellow Unilocalers. Overall, I had an awesome experience here! Kann was a great hair stylist who was very accommodating and informative as I did not have any clear view on what style I wanted. I had never given someone so much trust and I did not regret it at all. I would definitely recommend this place and Kann to others!

I came here because I had heard good reviews but frankly, I was not impressed with the results. I did not realize the day of(they did a nice job blow drying my hair…) but few days later, I can see that my hair is really really really damaged. I basically look like a puddle with fuzzy hair. They may have worked hard(I stayed in the salon for almost 4 hours) but what makes me upset is that they probably realized that the damage was more severe than expected(because I had the solution on for 4 hours). However, they didn’t tell me anything nor did they trim the dead ends afterwards. Was this really worth $ 280 plus tip?

Made an appointment 2 days in advance and when I get there 15 min early, they first told me it will just be a 5 min wait. So I went out to take a 10 min phone call, when back and they told me again it will be a little wait. That’s fine since I’m still early. But later they came to tell me it’s gonna be an hour wait. That’s unacceptable. They could have called me in advance to tell me there will be delays, since they send out text msg to remind you not to be late, or they could have told me the first time I went in, the reception apparently didn’t even bother to check on the stylist… Will never go back. Instead I aate beauty next door had an opening and I went, so glad I did. You guys should give Aate a try. A fairer price and better customer service. Results are amazing too.

I’ve wanted a perm since forever ago but I never got the guts to do it. I’m glad I did last Wed. It’s day 5 and I still love my hair! Sang did a great job thank you Now let’s hope my stubborn asian straight hair show me some mercy and allow my wavies stay in longer! Tip: show them 3 pictures of the perm you like and they will tell you what’s doable and what’s not. Then listen and let them do the magic(; Good luck girls!

Only takes 20mins for cutting my hair. The shortest hair cut ever, the roughest hair cut ever.

Moved to the city March of 2012, probably went to 4 different places before realizing the best salons were in ktown, proceeded to go try 4 different salons in ktown for various lengths of time until I found this place, and JK, been going to JK since. Courteous people, obviously will have to pay more than the $ 20 you would at a barbershop but you get what you pay, and JK is the man. He’s great at recommending haircuts suited for you, friendly, easy to have a conversation with, a good guy, highly recommended. It’s been 3 years, I’ve moved around the city 3 times since my first time there to various parts of NYC, but still always venture back for a cut every 3 weeks with JK. Don’t see this changing anytime soon.

This place is LEGIT!!! I have to say they really make you feel welcomed — contrary to some of the comments listed you don’t have to be Korean or Asian to get serviced. And all of the employees speak English… probably better than the average ‘merican so communication is not an issue, unless its YOUR issue. Service here is tops… I had my hair washed twice, both before and after. I had my cut with one of the owners, Andrew. There’s no doubt in my mind he knew what he was doing. He cut my hair with precision, confidence and efficiency… big bonus is that I’m not running for the shower after my haircut — I don’t have a scrap of hair on me, or my ears or down my shirt, etc… clean as a whistle! Look, the fact is they are only cutting your hair so you can’t expect a miracle… I have a big head… and after my haircut: I still have a big head! These guys are beauticians, not magicians, so if you’re looking for that ultimate make over to change you from a «Chump» to «Champ» try one of the local Soju Bars… Gentlemen, believe me when I tell you that you can’t spend $ 45 any better than to invest in yourself and get a haircut at this joint. go check it out for yourselves… you can thank me later

I did japanese straightening with Andrew and I liked it!!! He answered all my questions before doing the treatment. I think it will look good in 2 days after I wash it! I recommend this salon.

I love this place, not only because of the location but also because of my stylist — Kann! She is great in communicating to what you need, very laid back, and a sweet girl. I used to go to Hair Lounge in West village but disappointed. My colleague recommended this place to me and I have decided to stick with OSH ever since. Advice for Asian guys, if you want to get a clean and sharp cut, definitely can go with Kann. She is just awesome!

Tried this place upon friend’s recommendation who had overall a very satisfying experience for years… but turned out to be not quite the same experience for me. I went there with a styling change in mind and asked Alex, the stylist, for a styling advice. He was attentive to my wants and gave me a few recommendations based on them with some photos that helped me to picture what we’re going for. Things went okay until then, but what made my experience not so satisfying were: 1) my hair did turnout out to be nowhere closer to the picture he showed. I wanted for the natural curly hair, but turned out to be way too over it — friends called me Beethoven on that very evening and had good laugh with my hair. 2) I didn’t really think that the stylist gave me the full attention. He did gave me haircut himself and did the first part of the perm, but worked on different customers at the same time. To be fair, I am new to Manhattan so not quite familiar with the price ranges in mid-town hair salons. Maybe this is what I should expect with $ 270 price tag(pre-tax, pre-tip) on a perm with hair cut on my relatively short hair, but I hope I can find a better deal for the bucks and quality I pay.

Situation: 3.5 Stars. Wanted to have wavy hair for my HS reunion so I went in for a perm with JK. It took approximately 2 hours from start to finish, including wash, cut, electric perm, dry, and styling, costing $ 250 without tip. PROS –At the beginning of my appointment, JK took the time to discuss what kind of style I wanted, and the practicality and upkeep of it. I showed him a couple pictures of hairstyles I liked so that he could see what I was thinking of. –For my reunion, my hair was flawless! Bouncy, shiny, and effortlessly wavy. And unlike the perms my mum gets, I didn’t reek of chemicals! CONS –Yes, I know it is a Korean hair salon, however, it was still a little annoying that I had no idea what anybody was saying the whole time :( –The electric perm didn’t seem to have a very strong hold. I played it safe and didn’t wash my hair for 2 days after the perm, but my hair is still pretty straight now, and you could argue that if you didn’t know, you wouldn’t have guessed that my hair was permed at all. In a nutshell… –Didn’t quite do much for my hair, so in my opinion it was not worth the hundreds I dropped on this one appointment.

I really like OSH. Today was my first time going to this hair salon after my friend recommended it to me. I had booked an appointment two nights ago and they confirmed via phone, which I thought was very peculiar(I never had to book a haircut appointment before) but also very efficient. I arrived a bit early and waited for my stylist, Alex, for a few minutes, which was fine because I was early. After I got my hair washed, Alex asked a couple of questions about the style I wanted, but I think he kind of got the impression that I didn’t know what I wanted, so he told me the details of the new hairstyle that he was gonna give, such as maintenance and style and so on. If you’ve never visited a salon that has good service, you should try OSH out. For me, it was a new experience. I chose Alex because he was the co-owner and I was not disappointed. Alex seemed like he had years of experience under his belt while cutting my hair. Very skilled, to say the least. I went to this salon with the sole purpose of getting a new hairstyle, and with the help from OSH, I walked out the door with exactly that!

Actually I would give it a 3.5 I had an appointment here with JK. It’s undeniable he is a good listener and does pay attention to your needs thou he has many customers. The other staffs are also nice and helpful. The only minus point of Osh is its price. I only had a few layering cut and a hair perm. And it took me $ 300 for looking nearly exactly the same! But well at least it didn’t look worse than before, cause many shops do perm that makes you look like«ajuma». Yes for haircut and maybe a dye job only. Others are not worth the price.

WORSTHAIRSALONEVER!!! I came last week to dye my hair, the stylist Andrew said everything(tip also) is included in $ 300. However the color came out differently from the top to the bottom, which is soooooo UGLY that I have to wear a hat all the time! He said he could fix the color if I come this week. Now I am here, and he said I did not pay the tip last time and he was upset, so this time he is gonna charge me for fixing the color(which is his fault) we argued and he said«I am not gonna fix your hair, go to another hair salon!» Oh btw his name is Andrew. OSH sucks!

This is truly a great salon – talented, courteous, and efficient. I’ve been getting my haircut from Sang ever since moving to the city three years ago and wouldn’t trust anyone else to touch it. He gives the time and takes the attention to assess not only the client’s needs but also the style that will best complement them. The salon also offers a wide range of hair treatments. For the style I wanted to achieve, Sang recommended that I perm it. He really understood the look I was going for and the tools to make it happen. I’ve been consistently happy with the results and have recommended Sang to many friends that now see him, as well.
