Came here on a whim. Awesome music and drinks. Ask the bartender to give you a variation off the drink menu. Had a dark and stormy variation that was fantastic!

Definitely a different atmosphere but It was cool ! Really just stopped by for«happy hour»(not really happy hour) $ 10 rum something which wasn’t even strong(we had to have like 3) Then tried the pisco thing which was actually okay Server or bartender whatever you want to call her did take long for drinks ! But overall it was something different

I came here with a couple of coworkers after work around 6pm. All of us work in corporate so happy hour is a must after a long week. every week that is. When we entered the bar, It was quite disappointing to see how small the bar actually is compared to other bars around the city. $ 8 for a beer and more for other drinks but it is located in the heart of NY. There are a couple of tables set along the windows and another area for patrons to sit with coat hooks right above your head. The bar area is actually pretty small and there’s only one bartender so the service wasn’t great and the servers aren’t extremely friendly or attentive. It’s a good place if you’re not coming with a big party and are just with a couple friends to relax but if you have more than 5 people, you’re better off finding a more spacious bar.

Came here for birthday drinks with friends. I picked the place because I love Ward III, and this is so much more convenient to where I live(UWS). Also, the reviews indicated that this place is a gem in the Theatre District. All signs looked good. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy one single thing about my experience here. The crowd is unattractive and very touristy, and skews a little older(mid 40s+). The three drinks we ordered all missed the mark — an Old Fashioned, French 75, and a Mojiti. The menu is printed on gold looking paper — should have know that they were trying too hard. Water glasses smelled like bleach, which is better than smelling like someone’s mouth, but that was offputting. And finally, the service wasn’t great. Our server herself wasn’t bad, but she literally just ran the drinks. No friendliness or small talk. The hostess lady(short older lady) had a scowl on her face the entire time… and took a table out from under us(4 ladies) to give it to a bigger group of guys who came in after we’d been there an hour. So we asked for the check and bolted to go somewhere else. The décor looks cool, for sure, but this was a miss for me in every other area. Just go around the corner for Latitude or something… no need to waste time pretending to be fancy at The Rum House.

Delicious rum drinks and a great jazz singer. Comfortable and cozy. It took us a while to get drinks and my glass was empty for 20 minutes before the waitress came back. If the service had been better I would have given a 5 star review.

Small old fashion bar with live music in the evening. Come early if you want a seat. Slightly pricey, but it’s typical for a hotel bar located in Times Square.

Small bar with nothing notable that sticks to memory. Typical New York bar prices, $ 8 for a bottle of bud light and $ 9 – 10 tequila shots. However, I will give this place a shout out because my brother was wearing shorts(in winter) and we got turned away from 2 other places within a block. We asked if it mattered what we were wearing and the guy replied with«as long as you’re wearing clothes».

Strong drinks and great service! A bit pricey but what do you expect near Times Square? Live music was a very nice touch!

Cocktails are either very expensive in New York or just extra pricey in theater district. Nonetheless, drinks were strong and tasted great. They have a pretty extensive cocktail menu so you will have plenty of options to choose from. We dropped by right after finishing an afternoon showing of Chicago and it was pretty empty. Ordered a few drinks and bartender gave us all a free round of tequila shots! Definitely a fun time. Pretty cozy atmosphere and extra nice for us since it was quiet enough for us to chat and be able to hear each other.

Great midtown place for a proper after-work drink. it can get noisy and crowded, but I always have a good time here and there aren’t many places like it in the immediate vicinity. I hate that the restrooms are through the hotel lobby and they have some kind of pass system depending on the hour to keep the riff-raff out of the restrooms. Kinda kills the mood, but otherwise fun.

I wish i could give less than a 1 star to this place because of the attitude of the rude bartender. We were here my friend and i this past Monday late night because we thought it was cool to have a place that is open late to grab a drink, i guess i was wrong all along. I wouldn’t even talk about the prices or the quality of the drinks(can’t make a Negroni right!!! REALLY?!) But i am so surprised of the attitude of the bartender(His name was Chrles BTW) when my friend asked him if he knew the name of the singer of a song that was playing without checking the phone. It’s a Yes/No question. Instead he was getting aggressive saying that it was rude of her to underestimate his music knowledge and that he knew a lot more about her when it comes to Music(who cares!!!). We decided to leave before before we finished our«Expensive» drinks and would never be back. I have been bartending for over 13 years in Paris, Milan, and New York and have never seen a bartender with such attitude(if he can’t deal with people he ahould go work in the kitchen so he doesn’t have to see anyone) This is the first time i an writing a Unilocal review and most likely would be the last time, because i son’t think i would see worst than this type of service ever in New York. Cheers

The rum house is quickly becoming one of my fav’s for old fashioneds in NYC! with a whiskey/bourbon selection that would be the envy of most other bars, this is a great place to check out if your in the mood for craft cocktails. For a hotel bar, this place is pretty awesome as the look and feel to the place takes you right back to the yester years of flappers & gatsbys! this place can get packed on the weekends as many of the guests frequent this spot after the broadway shows let out across the street. Plus on certain nights they have a live band which adds to the charm of this quaint little neighborhood bar in the heart of the theater district!

Hear ye hear ye, this bar is a tourist trap rip-off. Almost everyone in this place is from out of town and doesn’t know any better that the drinks here are mediocre and way over-priced. I was in the Theater District for a couple drinks pre-show, and my girlfriend and I came here for cocktails. A quick note, a $ 14 cocktail(what all the cocktails cost here) in Times Square or a Midtown Rooftop is not of nearly the same quality as a $ 14 cocktail that you’ll find at Attaboy’s(LES) or Manhattan Cricket Club(UWS). We ordered one overpriced drink with a mind to go elsewhere after, and we substituted Mezcal for Gin. They ended up charging us various fees, and we left with a $ 19 charge for a supremely mediocre cocktail. Pro-tip: avoid the crowds, congestion, inflated prices of Times Square, and just walk 5 minutes over to Hell’s Kitchen for better quality and less frustration.

I wanted somewhere for 8 people on a Friday night for some birthday drinks near Times Square where we all work and didn’t have high hopes of finding anywhere good. Am so pleased we came here! We arrived about 6pm on a Friday and managed to snag a little table. They were very accommodating and brought down extra chairs for us so we could all squeeze round it. The atmosphere was perfect, the right volume to have be bustling and lively but not so loud you couldn’t have a chat. We spent a happy few hours here(I had *a lot* of very tasty French 75s which I would definitely recommend). I think they have live music nightly and unfortunately our dinner reservations were up just as this started so we had to leave but what we did hear sounded great I’ll definitely be back whenever I want a drink near Times Square, absolute find in the middle of all the tourist traps.

The only bar in Times Square that doesn’t feel like Times Square. Come here if you want to escape that madness. The atmosphere is swanky and cozy.(I came here on a bitterly cold January evening.) The cocktails are well-crafted and strong. Arrive before the shows let out to get a good seat. You might remember this bar from a few scenes in Birdman.

Mea culpa. I have worked near the Rum House for several years and I only found it a few weeks ago. I should be grateful as it means that people from work probably don’t come here!!! However, I feel like the guy who came in second in the village idiot contest. Reason being that I really like places like this AND I frequently complain about the poor set of choices around Times Square. QUALITY bars are few and far between. CLASSICCOCKTAILS and live 1930s style MUSIC is a vibe I can get behind most of the time. These things happen here. I have enjoyed a Negroni, Mai-Tai and Sazerac at the Rum House. SERVERS are quite skilled and I should add a little note of thanks to the bar for holding my credit card for a few days… I know how it seems but honestly I just had one drink and innocently left the card behind. I retrieved it… several days later

Really enjoyed this bar! I was hesitant about going to a bar right in the middle of Times Square but was pleasantly surprised as to how small it was and how it wasn’t packed with herds of people! I was here on a Friday night, they had a live latin band and it was a lot of fun! I sat at the bar, there are a few tables around, but they were all full. The drinks were strong, I had 2 and was feeling pretty good. I would recommend the Tortuga — but don’t eat the orange dried fruit/pepper they put in it, I made that mistake and it was interesting/weird tasting! Aside from that, really had a great and relaxing time here.

I was in NYC for the weekend with an old friend and we really wanted to get dressed up and hit up some jazz music. Being in time square, we were worried that this place might be a rid touristy but it had good reviews so we thought, why not? We came in on a Sunday night around 10pm and there was an awesome jazz band playing. We got a table for 2 right away– it wasn’t packed at all. The band played until about 12:30. The waitress was busting her butt and very attentive despite having a lot of tables. Delicious cocktails– pricy but worth it. There were cheaper things on the menu but i definitely suggest the cocktails, This is a great date spot– low lighting, music that’s soft enough for conversation and a great old-timey speakeasy feel. I’d love to return on my next weekend trip to the city!

The reason this place gets 2 stars is simple — $ 30 for two drinks(one of which was a simple vodka shot). We stumbled upon it after seeing a show and the vibe looked great. It was. A really neat piano bar in the heart of the theatre district with a million types of rum. But, as the owner, to be competing w/a million bars/taverns in the area, all who serve cheaper drinks, one would think they would want repeat customers. We will not be back, as they price their drinks as high as the Standard or Hudson Hotel — which, for a divey kind of tavern — is ludicrous. #touristtrap

Located inside Hotel Edison. Great bar scene. Confident mixologists, friendly staff and nice crowd. Bathrooms are located within the hotel lobby(may be inconvenient for some) Overall, I had a nice time here.
