I can only speak to the daytime coffeeshop, but it’s a lovely, little spot. There’s a back area that’s really cute and has comfy couches, so don’t forget to check that out. Best of all is that heir iced coffee is good and strong, even after the ice cubes have melted quite a bit!

This is my local jam! Not one person has said they didn’t enjoy themselves when introduced. I’ll be sad to not have the Roost next to me when I move to downtown Brooklyn, but that won’t stop me from visiting when in the neighborhood.

Cool spot. Rustic modern scenery vibe. Different music that plays depending on the bartender. Everyone’s welcome!

I get the feeling that good wifi is not a part of their business model. Kind of sucks when you sit down and try to log in. The feeling sets in, «Oh, yea… These people want you to buy and leave. It’s not Brooklyn, jeez.»

One of my favorite bars hands down. Known for its whiskey and beers. No frills. No pretentiousness. Hidden speak easy café that moonlights as a bar by night.

Spacious spot with great coffee. It’s a lot of ground to cover so I watched a few people have to wait a bit for the barista but he was super friendly and good. Not the best food choices/variety but if you’re looking for a place to enjoy some caffeine and do some work this is it! Oh and great music selection, blend of oldies and goodies :)

I used to like this place more before they started controlling the cream/milk rations behind the counter. The coffee is good and the environment is chill and relaxed. The last time I went in, though, I ordered a hot coffee and the barista filled it all the way to the top, didn’t put any kind of buffer around the paper cup to absorb the heat(i.e. second cup or a cardboard sleeve). I reluctantly and cautiously took it away, but inevitably ended up burning my hand when the super hot coffee splashed over. An amateur move on her part and honestly, it left a bad taste in my mouth(and a painful, red burn on my hand!) Not as enthusiastic to return to this spot as I have been in the past.

I love this place! I’ve been here twice on two completely separate times of the day and had a great time on both occasions. A hidden gem behind a small café. The first time was an early Saturday afternoon and the skylights allowed the sun to shine through and was beautiful. Very quiet and peaceful this time of day. There’s a couple different rooms and each room has its own vibe. Large, comfy, lounge couches and chairs or a long bar with stools and tables around. The second time I came was a Saturday night with a few friends and we found a great table to chat and hang out at. The beers on tap are great selections and not overly priced for a craft pint. I’m not a cocktail drinker but I saw the bartenders making their signatures and they looked delicious. They also seemed to really care for the details– orange peels, etc. I was talking to the girl next to me about it and she seemed to love hers.

Fantastic place. Very cool vibe, laid back. Bar/lounge is fantastic with great lighting, chill music, a solid bartender, and good customers. Also great wine deals. But — front entrance is disarming(just looks like a small coffee shop) and barista was not welcoming or helpful.

The bar is located behind a coffee shop. We went there on a Monday night for my friend’s birthday. The bartender was really nice, he let us know that happy hour ends at 7pm and that drafts will cost $ 5 after 8pm so he suggested us when to get our next drinks which was nice from him. The bar was quiet(as expected for a Monday night) but there was some nice and quiet music playing in the background which was a perfect atmosphere to talk, chat, make jokes and catch up with my friends.

Five stars for the music. Seriously. None of that top 40 crap — well, okay, maybe a few of those. But Jamie XX? Now that’s what I like to hear. Very long bar that gets somewhat crowded in the front, but opens up a tad towards the back. Great bar service and an awesome selection of beers on tap.

Wow, I love this place. The vibe is so relaxed and everyone who works there is quiet, polite, and super efficient. That being said, you can feel free to chat them up… I had a great conversation with Dave, who plays in a band and, as it turns out, is from a hometown near mine in lil’ old Massachusetts! They serve Brooklyn Roasting Company coffee and it is DELICIOUS. They also have a nice display of fresh Balthazar pastries(I totally recommend their almond croissant – it’s one of my favorites). Their espresso drinks are all great as well, and they even have a maple latte… what’s not to love? There’s a bar in the back of the Roost that tends to draw a crowd; probably because of its spaciousness, couches, and large flat screens with the game on. I have yet to hang out in the back; I usually stick to the coffee bar. The front of the shop also has ample seating; I’ve never had any trouble grabbing a spot. I’m docking a star just because the wifi is always having issues. I know, I know…#firstworldproblems Check it out!!!

What a cool place. A friend took me here last night and I’m so glad he did. When we first entered, I must admit, I was confused why he was bringing me to a nearly empty coffee shop on a Saturday night. To my surprise, he led me into the back room which was a spacious bar lounge area. The place was packed and I was ready to order a drink. The bartenders are super chill and very friendly. At least the bartender who assisted us was awesome at even let me taste a few beers before ordering. Not only was the service nice, but the atmosphere was so cool. There was plenty of seating at the bar, surrounding tables, and even big couches. It’s the perfect place to go with a group of friends. Very casual, but intimate atmosphere at the same time. I’m excited to bring my friends back.

I love this bar! It has a speakeasy-esque feel to it since its conveniently located at the back of a coffee shop. Very small bar, but intimate. Go with your closest friends on a Friday or Saturday night where you’ll be able to hold a conversation without screaming over each other or losing your hearing from deafening music.

I LOVE this place! Hip coffee shop in front, chill lounge-type area in the middle, hot bar in the back. Cappuccinos are delicious. This unique place is a really awesome place to hang and to party.

The Roost is my favorite local coffee shop! I visit daily not only for my morning bev, but to chat with the baristas. Shaun is one of my fav! The coffee is super flavorful and the locally made pastries are yummy! The décor is modern rustic. It has a really warm vibe and cool tunes playing. Non rushed atmosphere. In the back of The Roost, behind a secret door is a bar. It opens at night serving up yummy cocktails and local beer. This place is a true neighbor hood gem!

I have been trying to find deceiving places like the Roost in Big Apple for a long time. A coffee shop by day and a bar at night, what a great concept!!! This was our very first stop of the night on the LES. So, my friends and I by passed the coffee and pastries space, small lounge area and headed straight to the bar for DRINKS. This is a full bar with exposed brick walls, TV’s above the bar and a large one on the back wall. They have a selection of 16 beers on tap, wide variety of bottles and cans for you to choose from in addition to the stiff drinks. Since I like my ale, the bartender(Brian) suggested the six point ale. It was very smooth but not as dark. The service was great and the prices are reasonable. I will see you soon«The Roost».

Perfect roomie place for sketching with friends! Grabbed a latte here which didn’t even need to be sweetened and was perfect to me. The front may look small, but when you walk to the back, it’s like another world. There’s a bar there with couches strewn about. It was also pretty quiet in the daytime, so plenty of places for me to actually sit!

Like a good mullet it appears the Roost operates under a «business in the front, party in the back» motto. The Roost is pretty unique — it is a coffee shop upfront, and a sweet bar in the back. My review is only applicable to the bar as I did not partake in any coffee or baked goods. The storefront is an unassuming coffee shop, with a «hidden» bar section in the back accessible through a hallway on the left side of the shop. I put«hidden» in quotes because it’s not like they are trying to hide it, but they don’t draw attention to it either. I am betting that there are hundreds of people who pass by every day thinking it is only a coffee shop and not a sweet bar. The bar in back as long and deceivingly expansive, and style nicely with tons of exposed wood, brick and raw iron fixtures. They have 2 kick ass leather couches, something you would probably see at pottery barn. The wooden tables are all seemingly raw or reclaimed wood, sitting on simple iron piping for the bases. There are old Edison bulbs all around, but they cover them up with protective covers and they kinda lose their impact. One great feature of this bar that you may miss in the evening are the giant skylights that pour sunlight into the space. I am pretty sure this bar sits in the alleyway between blocks and it greatly benefits from the unobstructed pathway to the stars. This bar has walls of whiskies, about a dozen draught beers on tap, and a couple variants of sangria. Despite proudly displaying the whiskies on the wall, the bartender admitted she did not make a very good old fashioned. I rolled the dice and ordered one anyway. She was right, but the only problem was a little too much angostura. I appreciated her honesty, but I feel any bartender should make a damn good old fashioned in a whisky bar. The rest of the afternoon we ordered some beers and Dark and Stormy’s served in mason jars while we watched the World Cup. The place never got too busy, but we were only there from 4 – 7. I will definitely be going back when in the area.
