First of all, there were 2 other tables seated during the rush of lunch hour which is never a good sign. Second, we ordered the fig/goat cheese flat bread to start. Half of it was left behind. ONly half the flat bread was dressed with barely 4 crumbles of what they called goat cheese. The figs were drizzled with something i couldn’t place. Third, i ordered the lobster roll and what i got was embarrassing. It was a wrap with a half raw piece of bacon. The dressing was awful. My guests had the steak frites and salmon which not only looked upappetizing but they also left more than half on their plate. We left in a hurry to go to Todd English Food Hall at the beautiful Plaza Hotel to enjoy a delicious crêpe. Go there instead. It has any cuisine you’d like. The only positive about Park Room was a pretty view and comfortable chairs but don’t go there to eat. Yuk! Never again. Plus the service was awful and i had a nat in my arnold palmer. So gross!

Its atmosphere and view is one of New York City’s most unknown and romantic. I accidentally found this place when my friends and I were exploring brunch options on Central Park South, and we were very satisfied with our time there. Irving Fields, about to turn 100 years-old, was playing beautiful songs on the piano and taking classical requests. The brunch food, however, was not up to par with the price tag.

My husband and I like a buffet dinner for the holidays. In New York City, these can be hard to find. We had been going here for a couple of years and had enjoyed the holidays here. Last year, we heard that the hotel had been sold and that the new management would not continue to have dinners on the holidays. Well, the new management changed its mind, so we were pleased to return. Most buffets have a large number of dishes. As a rule, the quality of these dishes is uneven. The selection on this buffet was smaller than other buffets we have experienced. However, the quality of each and every item that we tried ranged from very good to excellent. The appetizers were excellent; The shrimp and crab claws were tasty and the cocktail sauce was not harsh. The prime rib was the best we have had in recent memory. The dressing and sweet potatoes, dishes that are generally dry and pedestrian on most buffets, were moist and flavorful. Afed’s attentive service topped it all off. One minor criticism: It would be nice if they put signs on the various dishes. They do publish the menu on their web site. I printed it out and took it with me to the restaurant, so I knew what the dishes were. But without that, I would have been a little lost. But that is nit picking. We have already made our reservations for the Christmas buffet.

My sister and I decided to try this restaurant out for lucnh for restaurant week on July 25. 3 course $ 25. We got there about 1PM and it took 15 minutes for someone to notice us even though the room was almost empty As the waiter came up to us he said that Lunch is over at 2pm that we are no longer allowed to eat even though we made a reservation! Then he said he can seat us but be quick with the orders but can stay as long as we want. We got the restaurant week prefixed menu which clearly said 3 course for $ 25 at the bottom. We quickly ordered food and receieved our meals one after the other without being done with the previous meal. Speaking of the food, it was not as good as expected! They also did not have two of the meals that were on the menu. The desert was the only yummy course! As we get the bill there was a charge of $ 80 for two«Christmas Eve» meals and $ 12 for two coffees. We kindly ask the server what that is since we ordered from the prefixed menu, he started telling us that there is no such thing as the prefixed menu for $ 25 as we asked to see the menu he kept on giving us excuses that the menus are locked in the safe and he does not have a key to it. Then we ask for the manager but we got more exuses like«the manager is unavailable hes at a meeting but you have to pay this amount because I cant do anything about it» and walks away. As he noticed that the check book was empty he comes back and tells us he will fix it for us just to make us happy. We decide to split the bill which was total of $ 72, we still decided to tip 20% even though the service was terrible The next day, as I look at my card tranactions I was charged an additional $ 16! A total of about 40% Gratuity. The one and only good experience was the view on central park Other than that really bad experience…

How has only one person written about this place? Perhaps because the people who stop by the Helmsley Park Lane Hotel are not necessarily the type to consult Unilocal first before booking their stay(or having it comped as a guest of honor) at the hotel on the golden strip of Central Park South… they already knew about the place, and were foreordained to be there, and I suppose that includes this restaurant, perched just above park level with ceiling-high windows to take full advantage of a rare view that makes you feel like you’re in the old New York… old with an «e»; Olde New York. The reason I was able to enjoy a heaping $ 40 plate(not exaggerating) of corned beef hash and eggs here, fresh grapefruit juice that had that airplane taste that oddly evokes the feeling of adventure, and pocket a bunch of miniature glass jars of assorted luxury fruit jams and honeys was thanks to a personal friend whose husband had occasion to stay there. By the way, it takes a lot for me — a rabid supporter of self sustenance — to admit that even I dream sometimes of a silver lined existence that I was just born into, regardless of how much I deserve it. I hate that I have these fantasies, but don’t hate the fantasies themselves when they show up like once every five years, triggered by some special moment or another. Not being the one to pay freed me to fantasize that I was one of those well educated, rich-but-not-spoiled girls born and bred in the Upper East Side, meeting with a family friend or mentor prior to a ballet audition — that this unquestioning atmosphere looking out over all you can never own was just another weekday morning. The servers were all dressed up, but, in the spirit of a TRULY classy place, not shuffling or secretly(unless VERY secretly) bitter, and mostly left us alone to clink our silverware through the rather standard breakfast food onto the fine white plates, staring out through the window, which exposed the naked November trees in the park but not so much the lowly humanity a bit farther down. Especially on the edge of winter, this place is beautiful, and I was as sad to leave — pockets heavy with spoils — as I was to part with my dear friend.

I liked the maitre d’, Leon, and the coat check woman, Angelina. However, the food was local diner quality. I was there today for breakfast and I certainly could have done better for $ 20 +$ 5 tip.
