Great place! Not just for comics & Magic. They have great merchandise and are very knowledgeable in all things Superhero related. I needed a gift for a family member and they were SUPER helpful in assisting me in getting just the perfect present! Great people! Definitely worth a check out!

This store is absolutely fantastic. This is my go to store when i want to go play magic, or even catch up with a few friends to hang out. The store owner is one of a kind and is very reasonable. From what i have also seen. They are quite knowledgeable about comics seeing how this is a comic store. I recommend this place for anybody that is looking for a something new to read, they always have recommendations, or to anyone that is interested in playing magic the gathering. The magic the gathering community at this store is fantastic. We do more than just play the game, we also discuss several aspects of the game as well as delve into various formats the game has to offer. If you need a new place for FNM, go ahead and try this place out. I would hope to see you there!

Awesome store. You can find all the latest comics, toys and statutes at the best prices. No one can beat there prices. If they don’t have it then ask because then they will get it.

Great store! One of the few comic stores left in the Bronx. Always have what’s up and coming regarding trends and the latest in comics, toys, New Era fitted caps, Magic cards, and everything in between. Always friendly and willing to help look for that special something, if they don’t have it they usually know how to get it.

This is a great store! I go there mainly to play to play Magic the Gathering. They have events throughout the week, mainly Wednesday and Friday nights(weekends to a lesser extent). Their facebook page will keep you updated on the current events of the week and you can always call(the staff is always willing to help). During pre-release events a lot of people show up so you a assured of a good time. On the comic book and collectable side of things, they have a good selection. If there is something you are looking for the employees are willing to take time to find it for you are place and order for it.

First off, let me say that while The Lair is a «comic book store» in that they sell comics, they sell many other things as well — toys, caps, accessories, and — most importantly for me — Magic The Gathering cards. I don’t really buy anything but Magic cards there(and peripherals), but the comic section is up to date and they offer a subscription service — so tell them what books to pull and they’ll be there waiting for you when you come in to pick them up. The Lair has recently started bringing in celebrities(from the comic and sci-fi/fantasy world) for signing events and meet and greets — for a store in the Bronx, this is a big deal! Magic the Gathering is now a big part of what The Lair does — and if you’re looking to play on a Friday night or over the weekend(Standard, Modern, Constructed, Draft, etc…) this is your spot in the Bronx. For marathon sessions — caffeine and sugar filled snacks are available for purchase(most at $ 1 each). The owner goes out of his way to do right by his customers — all sorts of perks, give-aways, etc… And the regular customers are a pack of really great guys(I saw someone bring a girlfriend once — so females do pop in, but don’t expect too many of them to be there at any given time). I wish I could give that fifth star, but the accommodations are cramped. It’s not anyone’s fault — the store was not set up to be a gaming space… But — as you might imagine — some people who play Magic are larger dudes who need space to spread out. And yes — there’s a bathroom on site to use — but I don’t recommend it if you’re claustrophobic(it makes the store iteself appear spacious). Again — these are really only issues if you plan to play games(literally) at The Lair and are going to be there for multiple hours on end. As a straight store for shopping for your comic, sci-fi, fantasy, and gaming needs — top notch. Highly recommended!

I am desperate to like this place. Joe refuses to even go there, but I keep trying. A comic book store? In walking distance? Yes! Alas, The Lair has consisently failed to deliver. The store is crowded and cramped. One entire wall is dedicated to baseball caps. Sure, they are Marvel/DC logo’ed caps, but still. An entire freaking wall. Guys, put up a few of your bestselling caps and a sign saying you have more in the back. You know what you can do with that space then? Put up some fcking comic books! There are boxes all over the floor. They have figures, but they’re all in dusty packaging and piled in boxes. Comic book selection left TONS to be desired. Most TPBs were immensely outdated, and had that weird plastic dust jacket on them, like they were library books. There is basically one wall of comics, and nothing on there was recent. Half the wall is Archie, Garfield and Friends, Simpsons, etc. Now, I’m not hating fans of those comics, but I highly doubt that your numbers warrant half a wall that could be piled with more popular tomes. Additionally, there was zero organization whatsoever. I asked for a couple of things. None of them were available, even though they were recent issues. Honestly, I didn’t see any recent issues of anything. Website is a joke. No clickable links, no search bar, and a major exaggeration of stock. Call the number, and you’re getting the owner’s cell phone. Which usually goes straight to voicemail. One time, I asked if he was open(I was standing outside the store) and he said, «15 minutes.» I wandered around for 15 minutes. When I came back, I called and asked again, and he hung up on me and didn’t answer again. I waited another 10 minutes, then left. When I scolded him later in person, he apologized and told me to «like» him on facebook. Yeah, I shouldn’t have to go to facebook to keep tabs on your business, and you shouldn’t be using facebook as a crutch for a professional website. This place deserves one star, but I’m a sap and giving it two. First, the guy is very nice in person. He actually went on ebay to try to find the issue I was looking for. Not exactly, smart business practice(if he had arranged to order it for me, I would have bought through him), but sweet. He seems to genuinely like his work, and is pretty knowledgeable about comics(not about business). Like, I wanted to sit him down and be like, «What are you doing? I am here, desperate to give you money, and you don’t even have a browse-able collection!» But the other reason I’m giving two stars is because I want this place to succeed so badly! A comic book store up in the Bronx is an awesome thing! I want to see them become an awesome local comic spot. But for now, the Lair seems more like a very nerdy garage sale, and until it gets its act together, I will have to take the train to Midtown.
