I went to see«The Whaleship Essex» and was pleasantly surprised by this theater. We see a lot of plays, on Broadway, off Broadway, off off off off Broadway… so I was really expecting just an auditorium with a few fold-up chairs at this venue. As a matter of fact, I told my friends to get there early because with no assigned seating at this sort of place you often wind up where you can only see part of the stage. Hudson Guild had comfortable seats and the seating was sloped so you can see no matter where you are sitting and even if someone tall sits in front of you. I watched the show in comfort. And, at the very reasonable prices I would consider coming to see more here. Be forewarned, use that bathroom before the show or at intermission because it will probably be closed when you leave after the show.

Very interesting experience coming to see a show here. I had bought tickets to go see a show as part of «The Strawberry Theater festival» called«Break Room». I don’t live in a nice area of town by any means but I found the area that I had to walk through to get to this theater to be dark and very sketchy. If I had to do it again, I would not recommend walking alone. Once arriving at the theater, there were all these actors/models taking photos as though they were on the red carpet. We were finally allowed into the theater, only to see it was me, my date, and 4 other people who made up the entire audience. I felt awful for the actors. Someone who works for the theater company came up to give a speech about the theater, the festival and the show we were going to be seeing. He couldn’t even remember the name of the show and had to fumble through some papers to find it. Yikes! The show itself was OK, definitely took some twists and turns I did not see coming. I was entertained for the performance but I can’t see the show really becoming a huge hit.
