Wow. This place is great. The owner is actually on hand and listens(really listens) to customers. The food is great, especially the verde tacos. I can be a handful at the bar… but the bartenders are true professionals. Great job… this place is running on all cylinders.

First time to the Hog Pit and looking forward to many more visits. We were a party of five, without a reservation, and were accommodated very quickly. The service was excellent(thank you Kaitlyn). The food was absolutely amazing. We started with the bacon Mac n cheese nachos and a sampler platter. Delicious. Two members of our group are vegetarians and had no trouble ordering. The catfish po boy was really enjoyable, and they accommodated the other person by leaving off the bacon on their entrée. The drink specials looked really good… next time.

Need to catch a game? The Hog Pit is a decent spot in the city for a pitcher and a bite, but the food isn’t beyond what I would categorize as A-OK. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? A classic sports bar with a quirky vibe, The Hog Pit has abundant TVs and a fleet of servers who will keep your drinks full and the food coming out hot. What more could you ask for? Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? Based on what some sport’s bars are starting to charge in the city you might be reluctant to take a peak at the price portion of the menu — but fear not. Hog Pit’s prices are no different than what you might find in essentially any other big city, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that my Pulled Pork Sliders of reasonable size came to no more than $ 9.00. Reasonable. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? My Pork Sliders, which the menu pointed out was a house specialty, were nothing that blew me away, but they were nothing weak either. Not too saucy but to a degree reliant upon the sauce for a lot of the flavor, everything came together nicely in buns that weren’t oversized relative to the meat portion. I might ask that Hog Pit focus a bit more on the flavor of the pork as opposed to leaning on sauce, but my preference could simply come from having spent the past three years in Dallas. Single Star Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Hog Pit is a decent option as I touched on, but there are so many great options in close vacinity that I can’t say for certain that I’d be a regular at Hog Pit given the chance. No Star Granted.

Came in here with a hammered birthday boy and a posse about 7 – 8 people deep. They managed to get us a table and we ordered up a bunch of set meals. The food was not memorable, but I remember it being filling, decently reasonable given the Chelsea neighborhood, and the service was excellent. Not sure i’d come back, but certainly not a trainwreck by any means. Had a good time.

Texas A&M and a Buffalo Bills bar. Strange combo, but 3 cheers for the owner! How to get on my bad side: * Serve average food * Have a room full of TV’s with sports on and play music * Have a cute server that pays me no attention! 1. Nachos with Chili: terrible chips along with taste-like-Hormel chili($ 13, 1.5 stars) 2. Fried Pickles: I think they were made from frozen($ 7, 2.0 stars) 3. Chicken Wings: decent, but far from the best.($ 11, 3.0 stars) Nice peeps and good drinks saved the day to put this into the average category.

I really tried to look beyond the greasy food, weak drinks, and dirty atmosphere… until the bouncer started making racist, misogynistic remarks and chuckling about it in front of myself and my asian and Indian friends. I was horrified, disappointed, and embarrassed to have went here! At least if I had a stiff drink I would have been able to get through the shitty experience okay, but sipping through what I could only imagine was water with a splash of vodka, I didn’t stand a chance…

Late on a Sunday, after an endless bus ride back from Washington, DC, I wandered around the high 20s in a daze. I needed food, and most places were already shuttered. Enter the Hog Pit, where a few unfortunate tourists were making their way through a very ordinary tap list while some old rock songs played. I worry that some of these people might be from the Southern and Western parts of the country, and think that this is what we consider actually BBQ in the city. It’s not. It’s mediocre chow saved by its location and the bright lights. We have much better options in Brooklyn and Downtown. Like many things in this fair city, we don’t put out the things for guests. So this is not the place for the best BBQ(although Blue Country, which is nearby, isn’t bad).

The barbecue is so so(I’m Texan), the okra was the main draw for me now that they made it much smaller than usual — it really sucks. Its so small barely 2 cups of okra in a small container and they charge over 8 dollars for it, sounds like a good business move, right? It pretty much had no taste but it was okay now that made it so much smaller I had to revamp my review. This is place is pretty much a bar with Northern barbecue with no taste and very small Southern inspired appetizers to match with no taste. But you will pay a pretty penny for it, I may revisit it soon just to see if they changed for the better but I think they are more about«price to portion» than«taste and big portions» like a true Southern restaurant/bar should be. Sorry guys!

My friend and I were camping out for the Balmain release, and had been at an event at Space Ibiza. He randomly found this place on Unilocal,so we decided to stick to one destination and come here. The bar looks like a hog pit, very cowboy and roadside themed. There were tic tac toe boards drawn on the bartop, which was a chalkboard! The bartender was a lot of fun, she enjoyed having conversations with all the customers. There was a $ 5PBR and shot special– we got 4 of those and had a blast. $ 5 beers and shots??? We had a fun time arguing over different music with a group behind us that kept changing tunes on the jukebox. Definitely another interesting night.

Worst service ever! Called and made a reservation, arrived and was told that our reservation should not have been taken because they were all booked. Restaurant was 2⁄3 empty and they would not seat our party. Unbelievable! Go across the street to Hill Country– amazing food, staff was wonderfully accommodating even though they were busy, and we saw a great band!

Looking for a laid back spot with reasonably-priced drinks in the Flatiron area? This is your bar. You can still get a PBR + shot for $ 5 here! Dart board and foosball in the back. The bar itself is a chalkboard, fun for playing games. Some country music playing if that’s your thing. No idea about the food though.

A great dive bar to play foosball and grab beers. In a neighborhood characterized with fancy grocery stores selling white truffles, whiskey bars, and Danny Meyer restaurants, it’s a respite to find a dive bar that caters to those who just want a break from fine dining(and the prices that go along with it). The Hog Pit is a great place for people to hang out and just enjoy cheap drinks(though not the best) and play some foosball(although you’ll need quarters). There is also a photobooth in the back, and you can take some photos with your buddies. It’s nothing fancy, but it gets the job done!

Poor excuse for bbq. Even if you consider it drunk food. I have a low tolerance for fatty food that is somehow still bland. The grits were soggy and not cheesy. No texture. Pulled pork was dry and sauce had no kick. Mashed potatoes were more like potato salad with only pepper. Bizarre Good value I suppose.

«Awesomesauce» This place is great and has it all. Came here on a wednesday night because the Flatiron Hall was waaaaay too crowded to exist as a human bring and Hog pit was a perfect choice. It is a sports bar/restaurant with darts and foosball that does not have a high BRO factor. Plus there are chalkboard bartops with readily available chalk, so you can let you alcohol-induced creative juices flow. The two female bartenders were great, quick, and animated. The restaurant have many options of drafts and bottles of beer. PLUS, it serves 40oz of Colt 45, HOLLA! There is a bartender’s special, which includes a well shot with PBR. The crawfish chowder is a must have and I wish that I ordered a bowl instead of a cup. I cannot wait to go back!!!

*** Delicious food, Great staff, Sports bar *** The food here is so delicious. It’s a great spot to watch a sports game here. Their truffle fries are to die for here. Would definitely recommend this place to watch a sports game. Great service and great portion size.

I’ll start out by saying this has been my FAVORITE go-to low key bar near the office so I’m extremely disappointed in a recent visit that has preempted this review. Horrendous experience last night and will never return. Our waitress was blatantly EXTREMELY intoxicated — couldn’t remember a simple drink order for more than ten seconds. After involving two other employees, who laughed and said«we sometimes have a bit too much fun at work»(seriously?!), we finally had our drinks. The later-involved servers were actually helpful and announced our bill was on the house due to the situation. Drunk waitress continued to repeatedly approach our table reprimanding me for«getting her fired»(yet she wasn’t leaving…). I replied that she was drunk and asked that she leave our table. She then talked to an off duty bouncer across the bar, pointing toward me, and he demanded I leave the bar. I was sitting quietly causing ZERO disruption. When I asked to speak to a manager I was told that they had left for the night. So on a Friday night, management leaves the bar to be run by drunk staff? While non-disruptive patrons are aggressively forced to leave for pointing out the dysfunction? NEVERAGAIN.

Oh Hog Pit! This place reminds me of like the 4 consecutive birthday dinners I had across the street at Hill Country. Each year I needed a place to pre-game and wait for stragglers and also to go after dinner for some low-key hangs The Hot Pit is a pretty fun bar with super warm bartenders and staff. Every employee that I’ve ever met here has been friendly, professional and efficient. The food isn’t anything to go insane about — but I’ve had their pulled pork sliders, grilled cheese sandwich, french fries and creamed spinach. Some stuff was a little bland and some of it was nicely seasoned. This is more of a happy hour, group catch-up and late night hangs kind of place anyway.

I went here for dinner a couple of days ago with 3 of my friends. I joined the party slightly late — my friends were seated and were done with appetizers by the time I arrived. I managed to score a piece of fried catfish, which i thought was pretty good. I ordered a beer and the Buffalo Bleu sandwich. The beer was delivered promptly by the very obviously overworked waitress who still managed to sport a smile! The sandwich was REALLY good. I was really happy with it. The curly fries that came with it were also quite tasty. My friends ordered an assortment of bbq meats, which I thought were OK. The ribs were wolfed down fairly quickly so I take it they were tasty. The pulled pork and sausage were not bad. To be honest, we only ended up coming here because Hill Country BBQ had a 1 hour wait. This is a decent restaurant, with a somewhat more diverse menu than Hill Country, but obviously not similar expertise in bbq. If Hill Country is full, this is not a bad option. If you’re looking for a decent place to grab a bite in general and not necessarily craving bbq, check out the Hog Pit. Try the Bullafo Bleu sandwich!
