Great place for a quick lunch stop. Between my family members we had the BBQ chicken, spinach, and ham and cheese– all of them were great. Service and conversation were refreshingly friendly and fun. Pretty simple recommendation here– if you want great empanadas, definitely stop here for a quick bite!

Beef feeling was good. Crust was old. Man was nice lol. The empanadas were only $ 2.50 each. They had several savory and dessert types.

Found him outside the natural history museme. Guess I was over excited, they were OK but not the best. The price was good for the city but probably would not eat them again. Guy was über sweet though!

Delicious! These empanadas are a great value. We have tried beef, cheese, spinach and chicken and all are delish. My favorite is a tie between beef and spinich. If the cart is on 40th and 5th on my way home from work, I always make sure to grab some for dinner. Also the vendor is truly a pleasure to chat with.

Visiting the city and wanted a snack before going to the museum. Found this guy on Unilocal and I’m glad we did. I had the spinach empanada and it was great. Definitely will come back when I visit again.

Cheap, tasty and convenient. Perfect snack after visiting the Museum of Natural History. The dough is firm but not too crisp. The empanadas are baked and not oily, which I prefer. Delicious fillings with both sweet and savoury options.

Just had two beef empanadas! The beef was spiced just right, chopped olives and onions added to the flavor. Dough was light and airy! Compliments to the chef. My wife had the spinach and the Nutella/banana. She loved them.

Fresh hot baked empanadas… I went and he only had two types of empanada left BEEF(which is exactly what I was looking for) and ham& cheese. I was a little cautious bc of the little selection I thought I’d be getting the leftovers of the batch but they were fresh hot and very tasty.

Good stuff! I walked out of the library and he was parked right on 40th and 5th. I had a beef one and a cheese one. The beef was very flavorful and he did not skimp on the filling. It was filled to capacity and I felt pretty satisfied after but wanted to eat the cheese one before it got cold. It was delicious! I hope he doesn’t move his cart because I want to try the other flavors soon!

So delicious! I recommend the ham and cheese — going back to the cart to today for lunch. + the owner of the cart is pretty funny.

This guy is awesome! He was on 42nd, south side, in front of Bryant Park. $ 2 empanadas — i had a beef and a ham/cheese. One of these would make a good lunch. My wife is Argentinian — these are the best empanadas I’ve had in NYC.

The guy who runs the cart is so nice! The $ 2 empanadas sign caught my eye as I was headed to the Shake Shack. This little cart, parked at the corner by the natural history museum, provided a quick and cheap lunch amongst the greasy hotdog stands. I have no idea if it’s authentic or not but the empanadas were beautiful and my spinach one was yummy enough!

Had some empanadas here on Thursday… going again today! Soooo good, baked not fried(as god intended). Minor gripe on the beef ones… they’re missing several key ingredients: egg, green olives, and raisins. Otherwise, AWESOME! The ham and cheese one is Aaaaaa-mazing! Tried the three cheese one, so good. Can the guy bring some corn empanadas pleaseeee???(humitas)

Hot off the press! Real authentic Argentinian empanadas for only $ 2. It’s like all stars got aligned as I was in the vicinity to borrow travel books at the Mid-Manhattan public library and long and below, I got a glimpse of a yellow-banana hue colored mini cart serving hot, steamy empanadas. This cart business just started a month ago, but the tango-liked passion and energy exuded from the vendor was contagious. I saw lots of returning customers, stopping by for a box of these pockets of love. Out of the six available fillings, I chose spinach, but I was told the bestseller is beef and three cheese. The prebaked empanadas are kept hot and toasty in a warming oven, which he really needs to learn to adjust the temperature because within 3 minutes of my waiting time, I heard him screamed, «Oh! Hot!» when he retrieved the goods with his gloved hands. Plus, a few were burnt, which is wasteful and loss of revenue. Usually, empanadas are paired with green chimichurri, yet sadly, only packaged hot sauce was provided was. The crust exterior is crispy and well baked and filling is flavorful. More importantly, there’s the perfect ratio between dough and filling, so it’s not just doughy fillers or spilling innards. Two could even make it a meal and the perfect eat on the run choice. Daily from 11 – 4 till sold out. Friendly guy and told me everything is baked by his friend’s wife who’s a chef. One caveat is he has to be aware of warmer temperatures as some empanadas were burnt. While sweet empanadas are just icing on a cake(no pun intended), it would be the perfect marketing strategy to offer deal on a savory and sweet combo at a discounted price. I know Empanada Mama does a few sweet version and who could ever get tired of Nutella? Hey, even such heretic notion is embraced by xiao long bao and being in NYC, any fusion is possible.
