The Corcoran Group – Carnegie Hill

Specifically reviewing Corcoran agent, Robb Saar who seemed like a nice guy but turned out to conduct himself unethically. His sellers accepted my offer. I liquidated stock to make the down payment, engaged my lawyer to do the standard back-​and-​forth with the seller’s lawyer, rescheduled the closing of my own apartment to accommodate the sellers, and then, upon sending over the signed contracts and (huge) check for downpayment, he informed us that his sellers had accepted another offer. Actually, he didn’t inform us. We found out via the lawyers. He never even called my broker.
Robb never told us anyone else was even bidding! In fact, during the negotiation, he told us it was either my offer or the sellers were going to rent. They accepted my offer. then just shut me out and went with another higher offer — not even giving me a chance to beat it (so he also lost money for his clients b/​c despite his behavior, I would have outbid the other party).
He lied about what was going on while it was going on and also lied to my broker as it was coming to light, telling her these other buyers had come in just a day before (we then found out from the lawyer they’d been working on the contract for at least a week and a half — about as long as I’d been working on it). I guess he used me as an insurance policy, but it was extremely costly to me and of course hugely disappointing. I was surprised that this seemingly nice person would behave so dishonestly.
