Like everyone mentioned, it’s not the best food but decent enough. I was here just yesterday but and found out they’re closed for renovations. It was my last day working around the area so I was sad. I went to Salt and Pepper which also has Indian and it was definitely worse. It made me realize that Taste of India is not so bad.

Cheap $ 5 chicken tikka roll. The chicken’s not too dry. It comes with a yogurt sauce. And it’s huge. Quick service, never as long of a line as Caribbean place next door.

Sometimes a place is in your rotation simply because it’s the best option of its kind around. That’s the case with Taste of India. It’s by no means the best Indian food I’ve ever had, but it’s pretty decent. For $ 8 you can get two kinds of veggies, rice, naan and lentils, which is more food thank at people could eat. One could conceivably eat half and save the rest for later. Or you could make the mistake I do, which is eat until you’re in pain. There also are specials sometimes, like a $ 5 chicken tikka naan wrap. All the items can be bought singly as well(not in a combo), but the prices for them are not posted so you have to ask.

I checked this place out with my colleague during our Friday afternoon lunch break. This is located off 34th St. between 7th and 8th Ave. in conjunction with Caribbean Kitchen food joint, so you can try Indian and/or Caribbean food at the same place.
Compared to the newly-opened Patiala, they have a fairly decent seating area so you have the option of take-out as well as dine in. They have the lunch and dinner platter a very limited menu. I ordered a Veg. Combo(platter) for $ 7.95 and my colleague ordered a Chicken combo for $ 8.95. They also have a Meat(Lamb) combo for $ 9.95 too. All of it comes with a Tandoori naan of your choice. I opted for the Garlic naan which was made right away and topped with fresh-cut garlic. The Veg Combo consisted of dry potato vegetable which was just like we make at home, tasty eggplant curry and daal makhani which had a spicy, buttery flavor served with rice. This is a good option for someone looking for an Indian treat at lunch time. Don’t forget to collect napkins and forks on your way out.

I enjoyed the food, had fish curry and eggplant masala with a plain naan(which is freshly made in a tandoor, you can’t say that about most indian takeaway.) Prices are Midtowny, but I wasn’t expecting a respite from that right next to MSG. The fact that everything is in a steam tray except for naan is not bad. This does not make it less Indian! Everything tasted like it was freshly cooked that morning. I can tell they really cater to the Indian people who work around here, the flavor of the fish curry was great but also not something I might give to an Indian food dilettante. Those who always get chicken tikka masala might be disappointed here. I was surprised that for my money I got the naan, two entrees, AND daal on my rice. It’s definitely not a sit down place. It’s optimized for those who will take the food back to their office. You’ve got an expectations problem if you wanted anything more than that.

Cheap and quick, but the food is bland and soggy. Nothing particularly wrong with it beyond the overall lack of flavor though. I guess this is good if you are really craving ethnic food in an otherwise baron wasteland of chains. 2.5 rounded down to a 2.

I only come here when I’m already standing 10 feet away or less and start jonesin’ for Indian(better options are a 10 minute walk away). It’s just OK, cafeteria-level Indian, and overpriced to boot. But at least there’s never a line, unlike the Caribbean counter sharing real estate with them.

Horrible, slow service, mixed with overpriced not great food gets this place two stars. I went last night with my gf on a livingsocial coupon. We got 2 appetizers 2 entrees and a dessert. The apps were ok. We ordered chicken tikka masala, lamb vindaloo, and the garlic naan. The masala and vindaloo came in tiny bowls and did not include rice!!! For dessert we got gulab jamun. They were hard, and we only got 2(think of 2 munchkins for a dessert) The service was laughable as we were the only people there and it still took over 45 min for our entrees to come out. This was after waiting far too long for them to take our order.

OK for a quick Indian food craving fix on the cheap. Like most Indian takeout places all the food are per-cooked except the Nann, which is made fresh so they are buttery and warm.

As far as quick, cheap indian food goes in the city(esp in midtown) you can’t beat this place. The line moves quickly, you pick the portions and the food. I’ve grown up eating home cooked indian food and come from a family of AWESOME cooks so if you’re looking for spicy authentic indian food that is cheap and quick this is your best bet. The biryani is delicious but I also like the chicken tikkah masala, unlike many indian places it is NOT sweet. It has a has a tangy kick to it, that makes it exceptionally flavorful. Plus, unlike most indian places, this place doesn’t use a ton of butter and oil! If you go here and you’re not a fan, I highly recommend trying again, or perhaps sticking with a less authentic place.

Was in town for a few days and needed an Indian food fix. Found this place on Unilocal and it seemed serviceable and had a buffet, and it was exactly that. Small buffet with not very many offerings. Every other person in here during lunch time was Indian so I take that as at least a small token of their quasi-authenticity. Absolutely nothing to write home about, but it certainly did in a pinch.

From the outside, it looks like there’s an Indian restaurant and a Caribbean restaurant right next to each other. Once you go in, you can see that they’re the same place… just different sections. Hmm. I opted for the Indian combo, which involves picking 3 different selections out of pre-prepared vats. It comes with rice and a warm naan. You’ll get your food in a plastic combo plate, on a tray, and take it to a high, colorful table where you can perch at a stool to eat. The menu selections are very similar to the nearby Tawa Tandoor… but not quite as good. They’re about what you’d expect for food ladled out of a vat. The intended clientele is people who are both hungry and short on time. Occasionally, that’s me. I’d rather go to Tawa Tandoor, but the latter place only has seating for like, 4, so that’s not always possible.

I was super hungry after getting stuck in a line at Kmart(fucking check me out, like damn!) so I came here. My expectations were extremely low already so… keep that in mind. Anyways, the food was decent and spicy, but overpriced based on quality. I got a samosa today. Don’t do it — they’re not good.

Pretty standard boiler plate India basics. This is a taste of India as in the taste is that of a meal that is very average. The line was long and the tables few. Many pretty young secretary’s came in picking up 4 and five meals at a time. The food while not bad was not that good either. I had the vegetarian combo. The naan was excellent… buttery rich fresh. The chana(chickpea) masala was not very spicy… I don’t know if I was suppsed to ask for it spicy or what… And the Potato Masala was bland. And If I am talking about Indian food I should never have the word bland on my mind. The Dal was more of a thin soup than a lentil paste, and my damn snapple costs 1.50. If this place was not so cheap it would be a 2 star but since it is… 3

Food was just decent. Quick service, people were a little abrupt, but whatever. It’s lunchtime in Midtown Manhattan. I’m only giving two stars because the chana masala was a horror story. It was super sweet, no spice at all, and tasted like ketchup; and I got no naan, even though the menu clearly says that naan comes with the lunch. When I asked about it, they claimed that they weren’t giving naan with the lunch anymore… but why is it still on your sign? Confusing. There are so many better places for Indian food. I won’t waste my time here.

All the signs of a good Indian restaurant are in place here: +Lots of Indian patrons +FRESHBUTTERYNAANMADEJUSTFORYOUBECAUSEYOUARESPECIAL +Rockin’ Indian music videos Chicken tikka masala was solid, as was the chana masala. I’ll be back! And maybe I’ll pair with some jerk chicken from the Caribeean restaurant that shares the space for some fusion.

I think of the Jerky Boys bit with this place: Your food is killing us, my people are dying over here! I wanted coffee yesterday and I see a sign for«Masala tea» two bucks. I’m thinking, Cheaper than Starbucks Chai Tea Latte, Ha Ha I beat the man, Big Brother, Corporate. I place my order and I see the counterperson pushing a button on an automated machine. zzzzztt. I get this«drink», I take the lid off and I see oil drops. I know I’m in for bad times. This drink tasted like the water from canned corn and marinated in feet. Yuck. I went back there this morning to say how bad it was and they gave me a free small coffee. The coffee tasted like mud. Stay away from this place.

I had a cold and dropped in here in hopes of sinus-clearing spice. The lady explained that their food wasn’t particularly spicy, and let me sample their chicken. I took away a generously portioned combo meal, which tasted good enough and provided some pleasantly mild spiciness. The packaging was exceptionally excessive, consisting of a large microwave-safe plate with lid, bread wrapped in a paper plate wrapped in foil, and a plastic bag. No fork, of course. I would have preferred to pay a bit less, and I have to wonder just how much I’m paying for all this wasted material when what I want is a meal.

They give you 10% off if you show your building pass from 2 Penn. I would come here if I were hungry for Indian food but only have time to run out of the building, pick something and come back in. The lahse is good but you wont need it since the food isn’t too spicy, they tend to cater to people who are starting to explore Indian food or people who are trying to take the trains out of town, so the authentic stuff is put on hold. I think they also own the one in Newport Mall in Jersey City.
