I expected better. I have lived in the neighborhood for some time and have been meaning to try it. Disappointed. Also staff is pushy and portions are small.

If you’re a Desi person, just save yourself and don’t even bother walking in. This is a place where white people go to say«oh I just looove Indian, Bill — the authentic stuff». Like they’ve got nice linens on the tables and saris on the ceilings and whatnot but the food just ain’t up to par. They served us some microwaved pakoras that had clearly been cooked hours earlier. There was hardly any shrimp in the shrimp biryani. Nothing was really well done. No depth in the spices. Oh, I will say, though, the daal wasn’t bad. And the server was just too sassy. I think he was trying to be funny but it just rubbed us the wrong way. The cheque was not in the same league as the food. AVOID at all costs if you’re brown.

Great Indian food at reasonable prices. No music or tv’s, which is good. Great place to have a quiet dinner and talk. I had the chicken tikka masala and it’s not too spicy and the rice has peas in it, which I enjoyed.

honestly horrible, cheap prices but so is the quality, pretty much the worst Indian ive ever been to. The food is off-point, wrong spices everything really does reflect the price, almost like the MCdonalds of Indian foot. The Interior is 100 years old, good luck on your way to the bathroom. Came there by accident, i would have been better off eating a sandwich somewhere. Dont forget to look at their ‘paper napkins’ pretty much defines the restaurant.

We had a very nice dinner here. Service was excellent and the food was pretty good. The naan came hot out of the oven, which made it particularly tasty. We ordered the vegetable kurma and the lamb rogan josh, both of which were good. The vegetable samosas were decent, but nothing special. Overall a very pleasant dining experience. I particularly appreciated the relaxed, non-crowded vibe on a Friday night.

Wow! When I went in there, I was tempted to taste Bangladeshi food as I’d never tried it before. The manager guy who was also our server suggested some authentic Bangladeshi entrees and I was really excited to try them. Being Indian, I have a good level of tolerance for spicy food but this Bangladeshi spicy was something else! I had no idea that Bangali food combines jalapenos, ghost pepper, Indian chili and God knows what else! I’ve never tasted spicier Indian food ever! Regardless to say, my suffering knew no bounds the morning after.

Ridiculous experience: ordered delivery through Seamless — the food arrived very late and the delivery person mumbled something about the tip(which was 15%). I didn’t understand him so I asked what he said and in a nasty tone, pointing at my food, he said that he doesn’t come out for less than $ 5, so next time I should tip $ 5…I was still a bit incredulous that this was happening and confronted him and he mumbled something else and pointed at my food — his tone suggesting to me that there was something wrong with it and I should be careful. Tip lecture aside, this was one meal and you’re selling delivery service on Seamless. You can set your minimum price however you want to set it. I tipped a reasonable amount for delivery service — never mind that it was very late. What you get in return for your product is entirely under you or your restaurant’s control. Set higher minimums, but don’t lecture the customer about the tip. Avoid this place for delivery — else you may be visited by a nasty delivery person who(from reading other reviews) doesn’t quite understand that a tip isn’t something you demand and threaten to receive.

I dont get why this place is 3.5 stars. This place is phenomenal. I have lived in Manhattan for over 15 years, and this place trumps all the restaurants on Curry Hill. I am here right now having dinner with the hubs. We are having a blast… the best Saturday night ever, bc we only had to commute 1 block to enjoy this fantastic, flavorful meal! We had aloo gobi, chicken tikka masala, chana masala, garlic and onion naan, as well as vegetable samosa. For dessert we had rasmalai. ALLWEREAMAZING!!! DONOTMISSTHISPLACEIFYOUAREINTHEAREA. You’ll regret it.

I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. Some dishes are hit and miss. Tasty veggie samosas, but the dahl is just a watery mess. And I’ve had it 3 times now so it’s not like they had an off night. Wish it was better since it’s my local, but I guess I’ll have to try elsewhere.

I believe that Indian flavors are an acquired taste(sometimes parallel to French cuisine). I prefer most other Far East cuisines to it, but for quality this place is above average to excellent

Picked up fish bhoona from here today. Was pleasantly surprised by how tasty fish cooked in tandoor was. There was no curry as such just fried onions and tomatoes but it was still very flavorful. Also the complimentary desert was amazing. Can’t wait to try other dishes.

I had the worst experience in this place. First of all, the place was very dim, no lights in, barely enough to find your way to the table. We waited 15 to 20 minutes till somebody came in to take our order. While the decoration was nice but it was dusty and filthy, do NOT touch it. The taste of the food wasn’t bad but I ended up throwing up an hour or so later, I had a mild poisoning as I suspected cleanness of the place wasn’t it should be. I will not be going there again nor will recommend anybody to go.

I am a big fan of Indian Food, so I am always game for trying new places. Upon our arrival to the restaurant, we were immediately seated which is a plus, however it was a little confusing to tell who our actual server was because 3 different people aided our table. The ambiance in a bit too dark in my opinion. I ordered the Lamb Masala, which is a favorite dish of mine, but it was very chewy and had a lot of fat. It also tasted very similar to goat meat, which I do not like. I do appreciate the fact that our rice had carrots in it as well as hints of cinnamon. I ate about a quarter of the meat dish which goes without saying, I was left unsatisfied. I honestly don’t seem myself returning to this place, considering I am not living in the neighborhood and there are far better places below 83rd st.

Such a cozy and small Indian restaurant. Most of the restaurant is covered with tapestries and fabric. However, the place is not intimate due to the small space in the restaurant. You can definitely hear other peoples’ conversations. I ordered the Lamb Biriany, which was Basmatti White Rice with Diced Lamb and spices. The big entrée(that I had to take togo) tasted amazing, and surprisingly sweet due to the white grapes in it. It was a bit too sweet for me so I put these spicy onions, which were given earlier for the starter, in my bowl. A big plus about this meal is the taste of the lamb. It was juicy but did not have that certain odor, which makes me dislike lamb meat. I would come here again for this dish! I hope to try other foods here sometime soon. This one dish was about $ 13-$ 14

Located well north of the confluence of Indian restaurants in I sort of accidentally ended up in this nondescript Indian restaurant and what a treat! I ordered the Mulligatawany — definitely among the best i’ve had. Took bout 15 minutes to come out because the don’t make it in advance. Anyway, I probably should have stopped there since I was full already … they don’t skimp on portion size, but who goes to a restaurant and just tries the soup. So I got the lamb Korai Ghosh(sp?) — the one with the peppers and onions. Fantastic! And I had plenty of leftovers. Went back again with friends visiting from Vancouver and it was still excellent. We had the lamb Korai Ghosh(seems this is the specialty and it was definitely the highlight), but the Shrimp Shaag(Shrimp with Spinach) and the Mashed Eggplant were also quite good. The place has been around for about 30 years and could probably use some renewed décor, but if you’re just interested in really good food, you should still come here.

Place is beautifully decorated and has a nice ambiance for dates. Dim lighting and very cozy. For the chicken tandoori that came on a sizzling platter. It was delicious! I came by myself and it was pretty dead. The owner himself took my order and served me and he was very nice and attentive. Will definitely come back!

I came in on a Tuesday night so things were relatively quiet which was very relaxing. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and perfectly lit for dinner. I was immediately offered a choice of beverage when I came in and the complimentary«bread» basket which came with three types of sauce. My water stayed constantly topped up, and although I didn’t order wine this time, I noticed the table by me also had good service for this too. I ended up ordering the crab Bengal for starters knowing it had crab, but not super sure of what the dish was. It came out with a hollow bread bun which could be stuffed with the crab infused curry which was delicious although I wish the curry hadn’t overpowered the crab flavor. Still, a good food experiment there. For my main I asked the owner to recommend a good lamb and he suggested the lamb and spinach which came with complimentary rice. This dish was not as rich necessarily as other curries but I appreciated that it tasted good and felt light and healthy. This was a very full helping for one person and I even got to take some home. A solid 4 stars here for having good dishes, affordable prices especially as I felt I did not try their signature dishes. I originally also ordered garlic nan and as I finished my appetizer I realized I couldn’t eat anymore so asked to have it cancelled and the owner agreed. It ended up coming with my entrée and I figured it must’ve been too late to cancel — the owner came over to my table and told me not to worry about paying for it and to take it on the house since they ended up making it. This made my meal and is completely the reason I tipped $ 5 on a $ 20. That, and complimentary dessert.
