The Upper East Side, west of 2nd Avenue, is truly a desert when it comes to good and reasonably priced restaurants. Therefore, I always feel a keen sense of dread when I have to choose a restaurant within walking distance of the 5th Avenue museums.(The places to eat in The Met and The Guggenheim are really awful rip-offs, and Café Sabarsky at the Neue Gallerie is so overpriced and crowded.) Today I was presented with the same challenge to find a place, but after careful hunting on Unilocal,I found this lovely restaurant. My friend and I had a perfect lunch here today. As soon as we entered this intimate bistro, a very friendly and charming waiter, Angelo, offered us our choice of tables. Then, from start to finish, he provided attentive, excellent service. We were surprised at how reasonable the prices were. For example, my large piece of quiche with salad was only $ 12. That is amazing for the UES. It was delicious, and my friend really liked her herb omelete with salad. The warm bread provided was great. We had wine and Prosecco and finished with cappuccinos. All were excellent. We will be back!

Cute, charming neighborhood spot that is postage sized, just off Madison. It lacks the snooty crowd of Carnegie Hill’s other establishments. It’s inexpensive. Food portions are small and modest. Service is friendly and quick but nothing here is memorable.

We had another terrific dinner at Table d’Hôte this week. I love the charming atmosphere, coziness, and attentive service. I think it’s one of the loveliest casual dinning spots in Manhattan. It reminds me of being in France, and I am not at all put off by the tiny space as some others here seem to be. My meal was scrumptious. Crab cake with cucumber salad to start. The cucumbers, red onion, red bell peppers, and chives were sliced impossibly thin and dressed in a subtle yet flavorful vinaigrette. Next came Short ribs, wild mushrooms and turnips, and celeriac purée. The meat had an amazingly delicious sauce and all the accompaniments were cooked to perfection. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, my dessert arrived: strawberry rhubarb shortcake. I don’t even know how describe the deliciousness of this dessert. The shortcake was golden brown with a perfect, light texture and just the right amount of sweetness. Table d’Hôte is a perfect spot to have a romantic dinner for two, or to linger with a few friends in casual comfort.

Came here for the pre-theater price fix menu(I think it’s weekdays 5 – 7) which was a great deal! This restaurant is very cute and cozy and would be a great date spot or place to have a fancy/occasion dinner with friends. Location is also great because you can easily go to the park before or after. All of the food was great and service was good as well. Highly recommend!

Wow… this place is a gem. A secret… My husband and I return again and again for the saffron flavored plump mussels. Always exquisitely prepared and the price is unbelievable!!! They are a gracious staff and we can usually get seated in a day’s notice. Very cozy, and unpretentious.

Great food and location. Felt like we were in Paris. Only gave four stars because the seats were not so comfy and it was a bit small. Would return.

Something was wrong with the food I saw the great reviews on Unilocal and peaked into this quaint little French restaurant in the upper Eastside. The menu was quite nice, not a large menu, but some nice selections. I started with the foie gras, which was very nice, followed by the lamb special, which was excellent. The lamb was perfectly cooked, and the vegetables and gnocchi were fantastic. The service was excellent as well. The waiter was very attentive but not overly bearing. I felt well taken care of without being pestered. Wine selection was OK at best. Only one cab by the glass, however it was a decent cab. Relatively small wine selection, but not horrible for such a small place. Total price including drinks, approximately $ 100 per person. My only complaint while there was that the food isn’t actually French. It is billed as a French restaurant, however food was quite nice but not French. I was planning to give it four stars, until I woke up the next morning with a very unhappy stomach. I’m not sure what it was, but something I ate there has made me run to the bathroom over and over and over again. Very unfortunate, I wouldn’t eat there again.

Incredibly quaint little restaurant with excellent service and quality. Grabbed lunch here today and it was perfect. Despite a small menu there was something for all four of us that really hit the spot. Delicious home made foie gras, hand made cavatelli with broccoli, a crab cake sandwich, perfectly prepared grilled salmon, and a fantastic croque madame.

The location is great(blocks from the Cooper Hewitt) and the ambiance is cozy and romantic. The food is perfect. The cod was cooked perfectly and excellently seasoned. But the service is a little sporadic. I dropped in for an early dinner without a reservation. I was seated outside at a table next to the street. After an attentive first half of my meal, my water wasn’t refilled and it took longer than it should to get my check. I would try it again but I would make a point to call ahead first.

I went to make a reservation with my service dog and was refused access. When I explained that service dogs are allowed access wherever the public is allowed the(Owner??) just kept saying how small the place was and it gets packed and continued to say it wouldn’t work. Then I mentioned it is ILLEGAL to deny a person with a service dog access and he said«Oh that is how you want to handle this Really? Go ahead and make a reservation. I said no that isn’t how I want to handle it. But it is illegal and said he knows the laws and I said if I had a deformity would you deny me access and he said that was ridiculous. I just repeated that it is illegal and then because I was so pissed I teared up and said I don’t want to eat where I’m not welcome! I am filing a formal complaint with the ADA. I’m a disabled Veteran and this is how this asshole treats people with disabilities. I’m not even from NY I was with a client and I will make sure all my NY clients know how I was treated. It’s a quaint little romantic place, perfect for a date. It’s a little expensive but not too expensive. I made reservations on a whim, but it was a Tuesday night. The food is great. I had the salmon. Perfectly cook to order. The service is great. Our waiter was on point. He knew the menu and what wine would pair well with our dishes. Everything was wonderful. It reminds me of being in TriBeCa/Soho but without all the drama in the middle of the upper eastside.

Table D’Hôte has a an ambiance that I have never felt within any restaurant in New York City. It immediately took me to my grandparents house in Southern France where I have eaten some of the greatest meals in my life. it’s décor is honest and corresponds perfectly with the food and service. There is nothing commercial about this restaurant and the intimate atmosphere brings comfort to its guests. I have gone to Table D’Hôte multiple times now, and after being more than satisfied with my meals I decided to bring my Father, who was born into a French Gourmet household, for the ultimate test. We started with a bottle of a delicious full bodied Côtes Du Rhone, followed by the Bouchot Mussels in a Saffron Sauce and a plate of the Foie Gras Tourchon. The Bouchot Mussels were cooked beautifully and the Saffron sauce was incredible. It was thicker than most that I have tried, but wonderfully done. We continued to soak up the remains of the sauce(after we finished the mussels) with the toasted baguette that was served to us. As a Foie Gras fanatic, I must say this Foie Gras was very good, served with a side of lightly toasted brioche bread. These were some great light appetizers(maybe minus the baguette and brioche) that came with a high amount of satisfaction. very impressive. For our main course we decided to both go with the Duck Confit served on a bed of white beans, carrots, bits of lardon, and escarole. The confit was done very well, tender and moist with a thin layer of fat. The meat went seamlessly with the beans, lardon, and escarole. A perfect combo when done correctly. To bring it all together, the service was also great. The servers are very knowledgeable about what they are serving and are very hospitable. My father, who went in with high expectations came out with a smile on his face. This little place is definitely on my list of hidden gems in the city. THANKYOU

After the rave reviews on Unilocal,I was so disappointed. We came here on a Thursday evening to celebrate a special, very important occasion. We arrived about 15 minutes early for our reservation and were seated quickly. However, we sit for 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us and another few minutes before we were offered menus. When we finally met our water, and after replying that we would be fine with tap water to drink, the disappointment on his face was clear. For the rest of the evening, we received frustratingly slow, extremely curt service. After asking what vegetarian entrée options were available, he literally said, «we can make entrees. Like pasta.» Then, he walked away. After finally getting his attention another few minutes later(it’s not a large restaurant), we asked for clarification and was told that the chef can make veggies or the pasta dish without the sausage. Even asking for more bread(even though it was warm) or water took at least 10 minutes — in the meantime, no one even stopped to tell us whether they heard us or whether it was on its way. In contrast — not sure whether the fact that the other tables ordered wine was a factor — the waiter was warm and generous with the other restaurant patrons. He would offer menu suggestions, ask how they were enjoying their meals, and so on. Now onto the food. In one word: salty. Almost unbearably salty in reference to the salmon and short rib. The only redeeming parts of the meal were the octopus(cooked well — buttery quality) and the crispy skin on the salmon. The duck confit was just okay — not spectacular but not horrible either. My sister opted for the pasta dish without the sausage, but the broccoli rabe was unusually bitter. At the end of the meal, we were unceremoniously handed the check, then we happily left the restaurant. Oh, and the cavatelli with pesto and broccoli rabe — literally, that’s it — was $ 28(apparently, «there was more pasta» to replace the sausage — such a ripoff). All in all, a horribly memorable experience. With all the restaurants to choose from in New York, I definitely do not recommend this one. We loved this place. Its tiny and quant and very cozy. The table is a tiny french café version that doesn’t hold more than 2 plates but its part of the experience. The décor reminds me of English country, which in this case would be French country. But the food and the service are top notch. The dishes were absolutely amazing. The quality of the food and the service definitely make you understand the high prices. Plus the location, we are on Madison, after all, but I have to say it is worth it, in this case. We both loved our meals and left feeling full but not stuffed. I had the halibut special and it was the best halibut, hands down. My husband had the aged steak and loved it. Here, you know you are paying for quality, not the hype.

Adorable space! The restaurant is whimsically decorated with bookshelves, paintings of the French countryside, and fake flowers. The mussels we had to start were fabulous, garlicky, and plump. Also loved the Sancerre – fruity and velvety. My soft shell crab special was ok(a tiny bit greasy) but was overall a nice dish. His chicken paillard was tasty but a bit too simple for us. Dessert was good, and the lunch was altogether memorable and lovably intimate. I’d come back to try their dinner for sure.

I had brunch here this past Saturday with my girlfriend after noticing it on the way to Sarabeth’s nearby. The place looked quite nice, so we decided to try it out instead, and we couldn’t be happier! There are interior & outside seats, with a very cozy ambiance, perfect for a date. The service was quick and attentive, and they even give little free muffins with the table. Most importantly, the main courses were fantastic! I got the french toast(which just melted in my mouth), and my girlfriend got the croque monsieur, which was every bit as good as ones we have gotten in France. We also got mimosas with our food, which were very standard. Definitely some of the best brunch I’ve had in years of living in NYC. The place isn’t nearly as busy as it ought to be given the food and service, and I highly recommend it!

With the nearby Sarabeth’s a 45 minute wait, we opted to look around for a better alternative. Just a half block south, we find this place — a tiny, country style French restaurant, offering no wait, a small brunch menu, and an intimate interior. We had our pick of 2 tables, and a talkative, welcoming waiter. When I say intimate, I mean tiny. Maybe 8 tables inside, and a healthy, chatty clientele. The waiter made jokes specific to this restaurant, and insisted, politely, on refilling out water, and pulling out our chairs as we sat. It was nice, and not done in the stuffy manor I associate these actions. It was more friendly and curtious. It was nice. The waiter offered several good suggestions on what to order, insisting that the French toast was excellent. My girlfriend ordered that, despite our confidence that nothing could compare to the same dish at Café Triskell in Long Island City/Astoria. It came close. The fresh cream was heavenly, although the French toast and preserves were sweet enough for a dessert. No regrets here. I had the eggs Benedict, which we both agreed was better than the French toast. The highlight of the dish was a perfectly poached egg, which was done far better than most places we’ve encountered. The most memorable part of the meal was my Bloody Mary. It was quite pulp, and made from almost a vegetable compote. It was extra thick, spiced well, and one of the more memorable Bloody Marys I’ve ever had. I order them with almost every brunch, so it’s nice when one stands out like this. The feeling I walked away with from here is how welcome we felt. It is small enough to really feel intimate, without feeling rushed. No one was waiting to take our table, the water was warm and personable, but left us alone once the meal arrived. My coffee was refilled frequently without ask, and using a small cream-sized pitcher that was just enough for my cup. It not a pot meant to refresh everyone’s cup, but distinctly just for me. This attention to detail really made me feel special. It was quite unusual. We liked this place. The food was good. The place was intimate, and beyond personal. It really felt like a small French place in a similar, but distinctly different way than Café Triskell, and not quite as American as some other French restaurants in New York. I will go back. You should come, too.

French toast: the BEST I have EVER had! Seared salmon: the BEST my husband has ever had! I already want more of the french toast… it was perfectly fluffy and delicious. The restaurant is small and cozy. Actually, it’s pretty tiny. But the wait is worth it. Can’t beat the service and food. I hear their dinner is just as good as their brunch. Also loved the cute little muffins before our meal :)

Don’t let the size fool you. This«cozy» restaurant may make you want to turn away, but it really adds to the ambiance. The staff is friendly and accommodating. I followed a lot of our server’s suggestions and I was never disappointed. This restaurant even had a less watered down absinthe, which is hard for me to find in the States… I had the saffron mussels and the rack of lamb with ratatouille and goat cheese ravioli. My friend doesn’t like seafood or mussels, and he ate at least 12 of them. The aroma from the saffron and the taste was nothing short of wonderful. I don’t care very much for ratatouille, but Table d’Hôte totally changed that. The ratatouille really complimented the lamb and the goat cheese ravioli. For dessert, I ordered a chocolate ganache tarte(another thing I’m never crazy about) and it was amazing as well. This was the most satisfying dining experience. Note: Make a reservation ahead of time. It’s worth it. Also, they have alcohol to make simple cocktails so don’t expect anything outrageous if you’re into cocktails.

Came here for dinner to celebrate. We came early, so it wasn’t crowded — by the time we left, it was full. Nice waitstaff. Here’s what we had: –Grilled octopus: Really good, not very chewy(good) and great flavor. –Foie gras tourchon: Not a real foie gras, I think — more like a pâté. In any event, it wasn’t as creamy as foie gras should be(if it was really foie gras). But it was tasty, and good with the kumquats. –Striped sea bass: very moist, and tasty. Good large portion. Really good overall. Nice ambiance, just crowded. But will be returning.

What a cozy little spot for French country food. There are only a few tables in the restaurant, hence the name! We almost felt like we were out of town, what a nice escape. We split the kale salad with cilantro, mint and vinaigrette– very fresh and light. I ordered the salmon medium with butternut squash purée and shiitake mushrooms.delish. My husband ordered the cavatelli with broccoli rabe, basil pesto and sausage. We both had a glass of the Rioja, which was really nice. I would definitely return here for a nice laid back dinner. The Perfect Sunday night!
