I went with 2 coworkers to this place, I got a shrimp roll, a squid roll and a sweet shrimp sashimi along with some soggy salad. The food was ok, we were there for about 45 minutes. We had all ordered ice cream, but the manager comes back to us and says because our time allotted there was over we can’t have the ice cream and to leave and that he was comping the price of the salad. Big whoop. They were out over $ 30 and numerous stars on Unilocal,we were out ice cream. Needless to say, I’m not coming here again.

Best sushi in midtown! You can’t walk in for lunch… ever, but do not be deterred. Simply make a reservation about a week in advance. The décor is pretty dismal, carpet is dingy, furniture is old… but the sushi is awesome! Very fresh and flavorful. My favorite spot for a business lunch.

Have you ever walked into a restaurant and immediately knew you were in for a treat? This experience occurred to me at Sushi-Ann. There was a familiar feel to this restaurant, like I’ve been to the previous version before. I caught up with a friend and former work colleague over a great sushi lunch at the counter. I commented how this restaurant reminded me of the sushi shops in Ginza, Tokyo. We had a no nonsense work lunch in and out in one hour. Started with Maine Uni, sweet shrimp, o-toro, hotate from Hokkaido, hamachi, saba, and maguro. The green tea was Japanese hot, like I am some samurai warrior, instead of someone who gets manicures. haha. The restaurant is centrally located on E51st Street, near St Bart’s and some really amazing shopping/hotels nearby. Book lunch and get there on time. Do not feel underdressed as most of the customers are in suits.

The prix fixe dinner of black cod and salad, miso soup, two rolls and ice cream for $ 42 was okay. My dinner mate also ordered the grilled black cod and his portion was twice as big. I had the spicy tuna roll and fatty tuna roll also. They were indistinguishable. The décor was nothing impressive. Even though it was not crowded on a Wednesday night, the waiter seemed to rush us out by clearing our dishes even though one diner was still eating. A bit rude. Nothing impressive here

This was maybe the 3rd time I had diner at this fancy sushi place. Last 2 times I was told by the gentleman at the entrance that there was a minimum of $ 50 per person when seating at the bar. But last night it looked way different. I entered the restaurant and the host is on the phone briefly looking at me –still holding the headset to his ears– and asks me «have you been here before?». I’m a bit surprised but say yes. He goes on saying«so you know the rules?». I’m not liking this line of questioning but it’s late and I’m starving so I nodded. He then asked a waitress to seat me on 15 as he remains on the phone and doesn’t even look at me. I’m seating at the bar ordering a Sapporo draft and a large bottle of Badoit. The sushi chef behind the bar asks me what I’d like to order. Chirashi special($ 32). He then –out of the blue– tells me «that’s not enough, did they tell you about the rule?». Wow now this is embarrassing as other guests are sitting next to me. But I keep my composure and quietly answer«I didn’t finish, and yes they told me. I also want a Sake Kawamaki($ 12)». I’m obviously upset and what was meant to be a nice dinner after a long day of work turns into a confrontation. The sushi chef looks straight at me and says«and next? That’s not enough». I respond that it’s more than enough in a very determined tone. He mumbles in Japanese while preparing my order. Looks at me in a very aggressive manner. A young girl obviously eating with her parents at the bar sitting on my left turns toward me and tells me «that was rude» referring to the attitude of the sushi chef towards me. The food was served. Being very different than my other experiences at this location. Service was non-existent. I just wanted to leave at this stage. Asked for the check. $ 59.28 before tip. Left $ 11 tip for a grand total of $ 70.28. My last time at this location for sure and I promised myself to post this review. There are much better sushis in town with impeccable service for half the price. Hope this will help fellow Unilocalers.

The chefs are kind, they remember their clientele, they are artists. We love Sushi Ann, their omakase is very tasty, classic and honest. Located in the heart of Park Avenue, it has a cool vibe. The best is the bar, their red wine isn’t the best but it delivers if you don’t want to drink sake. Yummy omakase.

The place is average. The good things are the ambiance and seaweed salad. The place is definitely overpriced for what you get. I wouldn’t go back for anything except the seaweed salad. Sushi rolls are average and basic.

Came here for dinner on a Sat night, we were seated right away and the staff are super friendly and attentive. We tried their Sushi and Sashimi combo and everything tasted great! I’m not a big sushi/sashimi eater and am i’m not a picky eater in general(but I can tell what taste good and what doesn’t), this place was great! It was actually a lot of food for 2 ppl…

This was a fantastic meal. Not quite knock you out of your chair good, but definitely a top notch sushi dinner. I went with some friends and left feeling quite good. They didn’t have the sake I like so the waitress recommended another that was also fantastic. Overall an excellent midtown sushi spot.

I had the HEADCHEF’S SUSHISELECTION /おまかせ寿司 65.00 — 75.00 /per person OMAKASE — The Head Chef’s Recommended Assortment of Seasonal Sushi. It was terrible. Uni was old and fishy tasting(maybe the worst uni I have ever had; I hope I don’t get sick). The kohada was dry and old. The fatty tuna looked like it was cut by a 6 year old(thin and uneven and oddly shaped). Everything else was mediocre(very small slices of mediocre fish on decent sushi rice). When I mentioned the uni and kohada were inedible, I was told that they would discount my meal 10% but they charged me $ 70(before tip and tax) and the menu price is $ 65-$ 75. Honestly I would pay $ 100 to not eat it again. When I mentioned it to the front desk(manager?), he apologized but seemed uninterested.

I went to this overhyped an overcrowded restaurant on a business lunch. We had an omakase sushi and I have to say that this was extremely average sushi. The rice was just a bit mushy and definitely not the type of quality that I would expect to have an establishment the charges these kinds of prices. Furthermore the sushi itself was just okay there’s nothing truly exceptional about any of it. The Toro was extremely disappointing and there was a number of pieces that were very fishy. Furthermore at $ 200 it was not a good value. I would avoid this place and go to other places.

Sushi-Ann cannot seem to handle its increase in business over the last year and a half — the food and the service(especially) have taken a hard hit. Being a regular customer the last couple years, it’s been very disappointing. Regardless of when you call for take-out, they claim they cannot have it ready until at least 1pm, sometimes significantly later. I stopped in a few weeks ago to pick up an order after being told they were far too busy to have food ready for 12pm, and the restaurant was nearly empty. They then told me it was actually due to the chef being very tired, an excuse they used again later that week to explain why no take-out orders could be fulfilled until 2pm. What compounds the situation is the fact that the food has begun to slip below its price-point. The edamame is increasingly overcooked, the sushi is hastily /sloppily put together. Although the sushi pieces are fresh, prices suggests great dishes. Unfortunately, that’s not what you’ll be getting.

My dad took me here for lunch. It’s up the block from my job. I ordered the sushi deluxe and everything was fresh and delicious! A bit pricey, busy and small but I’d come back.

My father was in town and I was in a bit of a bind because I needed to find somewhere quick, within walking distance to the Waldorf, and«healthy». Enter Sushi-Ann. If you have been to other Midtown sushi joints such as Hatsuhana and Sushiden, then this is pretty much VERY comparable. Similar price point(~$ 30 – 50 a head), and good quality but not mind-blowing sushi. I’m a fan of these places because you don’t feel pressured to eat at the bar and order omakase, and you can pretty much get a reservation day of without any problems. We all opted for the set dinner which came with a generous portion of salad, miso soup, choice of two(or maybe three?) rolls, choice between grilled cod or salmon, and dessert. All for around $ 40. The fatty tuna roll was especially delicious and I would definitely get the cod over salmon. Dessert was your standard green tea ice cream but no complaints there because I love green tea ice cream. Service was attentive and food came quickly. Solid spot in Midtown East and while its not my top pick for Japanese, I would recommend it if you’re looking for a solid sushi spot with short notice.

I finally sat at the counter and had an AMAZING experience. The chef(Sakai) was knowledgeable. funny, and created some of the best sushi/sashimi experiences I’ve ever had. I highly recommend plopping down at the counter and leaving yourself in the sushi chef’s hands, whoever they are. My previous reviews were for business lunches where I had to get in-and-out in 60 minutes and was focused on a client. I just had the pleasure of going to Sushi-Ann with a friend where we had more than an hour free. I realized just how delicious the sushi is in Sushi-Ann. We savored each individual piece that was put in front of us. As always, Sushi-Ann has excellent, courteous service. Everyone is very attentive and they do remember people who come. Even though I come once every 2 – 3 months, they still recognize me… which is kind of nice :)

Tacky on the outside, food you can eat on the inside. The type of place Mr Big takes Carrie. Fresh sashimi. Plus points for surviving despite not having the look of a five star dining restaurant. Spent their money on the food not the décor. Plus points for being consistent and yum!

We called the restaurant at 11:15 a.m. for a lunch reservation at 12pm on the same day and were told that we must be done by 12:45 p.m. Sushi Deluxe comes with 8 pieces of nigiri, 6 pieces of tuna roll and 2 pieces of california roll. Everything was good, but not outstanding. The only thing that stood out and memorable was the akagai(arc shell clam). The rice tasted a little dry and didn’t have enough flavor. While everything was fresh and the presentation was nice, you get the feeling that they reserve the top quality stuff at a higher price point. However, the $ 28 they charged for what we received isn’t a particularly cheap price, and it is certainly possible to find other sushi places in the area that offers better quality for a similar price. The service was good and efficient, and we finished our food by the 12:45 p.m.

Absolutely the best sushi I’ve had in NY. It is just so fresh and so delicious. All the fish is in-season, and extremely fresh. I definitely recommend sitting at the sushi bar, so you can watch the sushi chef prepare the food. I also tried various fish that I’ve never heard of before. I also recommend eating the chawanmushi(egg custard). It is to DIEFOR. If you’ve ever had it at Ootoya Restaurant(18th st), it is EVENBETTER than the one there. The one at Sushi-Ann is filled with seafood and has a touch of yuzu(citron). It doesn’t get much better than that. The Ikura(salmon roe) is also seasoned with broth and soy sauce, so it is amazing. I will definitely be back(when I can afford it).

We snuck in here Friday at 12:15 for lunch and were able to get a table for 3! What the other reviews have said is true. Its definitely a business lunch place. There were people in suits everywhere. The atmosphere was a little bit sterile, but reasonable for a traditional Japanese sushi place. There were 8 sushi chefs on duty at the time, and the place was bustling the whole time we were there. I got the omakase for lunch and it had excellent variety and flavor. The fish was all very fresh and the portion size very reasonable. The rice was on the softer side and had an excellent taste and consistency. The omakase comes with fresh ground wasabi, while most other dishes come with the normal paste wasabi(which of course has a little more kick). This place hit my fix for fresh and high quality sushi during this last trip in New York. My only qualm about the place is that the service is a bit slow. We were seated at a table(which of course isn’t the best way to go omakase), and we ended up waiting a good while before the sushi came out. and when it did come out, it was all out. The place was a little pricy, but definitely within reason. This place is up there on my list for expensive sushi.
