I’ve been a client of Madison’s for almost 10 years. He combines expertise, precision, attention to detail and a fantastic personality, all of which contribute to the great hair cut and experience. She knows my hair very well even I go there every six months. She remembers how she cut last time and can tell if my hair is healthy or not. Very skilled and fast at the same time. Sometimes she suggests me how my long hair can be styled for special occasions!

Moved to NYC recently ago and dealt with «standard» haircuts for a couple months. You know — when it looks good for a few weeks and then three weeks out you already need another haircut. Then I found Studio 219. Madison’s understanding of hair is unrivaled. In a matter of minutes (seconds?) he is able to identify how to best manage and cut your hair. He’ll gladly follow your instructions, but also has the ability to work without guidance and ensure you walk out of his studio looking your best.

I spent my first few years in NYC going from salon to salon, stylist to stylist just never being really happy with what I’d been paying for. But back in 2006, an old co-​worker recommended I come here, and I’ve been a loyal client of Madison’s ever since. The staff is incredibly friendly, and I’ve never been disappointed with any of the work. It’s got a high-​end vibe minus the high-​end attitude. It’s always a pleasure to get my cut at Studio 219. I have been a client for some time. The place is always clean and welcoming. The staff is friendly and polite. Most of my haircuts have been with Madison. He is able to get a good feeling of what I’m after in terms of style. He also employs his extensive experience to take my random suggestions and turn them into something that looks good and practical. madison, studio 219, and each and every studio member is the best group of stylist I have encountered in New York City. In fact, when I am not in New York, I first arrange my appointment with madison, and the rest of my itinerary around my haircut, color, blowout or whatever else may be in store when in Madison’s studio. His haircuts are one of a kind, it’s like he has an unlimited pocket of pixie dust that leaves your hair unlike anyone else’s in New York City or anywhere else on the east coast. I have been a client for 7 years, and have the longest healthiest and most compliments about my hair– and I am not one to take compliments. So I pass the compliment to him. When I came to madison I had just been growing out a bob cut and my hair is exactly how I hope and expect it will be every visit since. As for the disgruntled bang girl– I would have to agree with the studio, it’s easy to ask what the price will be ahead of time. Madison listens to his clients while balancing his integrity and expertise in his field. Perfection like this leaves only a next visit to be desired.

Very expensive and low quality salon. I only needed to cut my bangs and a young girl, apparently without experience, did it very bad. And it was two times more expensive than I’ve ever payed in salons in Manhattan. I will never go there again.

Madison has given me faith in hairstylists once again! I’ve been back twice, he’s honest, gives great advice and knows exactly how to tame your mane!

Let me preface this by saying that — like most New Yorkers — I’m very, very picky about my hair. As a matter of fact, the only thing I’m just AS picky about is the price tag that comes with that hair. Studio 219 goes beyond in satisfying both.
I’ve been going here for over a year, and I can’t imagine going anywhere else. My regular stylist, Madison, is supremely educated, professional, and talented. He’s probably the first stylist I’ve worked with to understand my weird hair (curly, yet dry, yet course) and style it accordingly. Whenever I leave, it’s like day and night. It doesn’t hurt that we always have great conversation, so the time just flies by. The staff is also friendly and accommodating.
The best part? For the quality of cut, the price is incredible. This place is the definition of high value.

I had an awesome experience at studio 219. Honestly, I would have never discovered this place without Unilocal,its a little spot tucked away on 16^th street on a very residential block… but oh its so awesome i did.
I had an appointment with Michael, who is totally badass and did some amazing color. I didn’t have to say much, and he knew exactly the color i was looking for and went to work. The color came out absolutely shiny, awesome, and just what i was looking for.
The cut fits me perfectly, and again, without much direction, he went to work on a masterpiece that I can now call my head, and I am so pleased to now look at it in the morning, and without much effort, be able to recreate the same salon feel, without any high maintenance.
I would recommend this spot in a heartbeat. The cost is appropriate for the superb level of service and quality you get here. Not to mention, everyone is funny and super friendly.
I will be coming back.

I discovered Studio 219 one night while walking to the train after work and walked right in, no appointment necessary.
I waited a few minutes and was getting my head massaged in no time flat, I also had the benefit of getting my cut from the owner Michael, who is really really talented. I walk out that place happy every time. For a guy cut it usually runs me $ 50 which is more than reasonable. The shop is small, cozy and never feels hectic… i highly recommend this spot.
