I had been going to my local NJ dentist my whole life. I was content with the six month cleanings, and then I had my first cavities filled. I never had experienced tooth pain until after I got fillings put in. A year later I went do Dr. Silverstein, and I’m so happy I did. Although it’s slightly more expensive than my local doctor, Kathy gave an amazing cleaning that was efficient and gentle. They used new technologies to help break up tarter(to make for a less painful cleaning) and another machine that detects potential problems. They also took their time and listened to all my questions and concerns and showed me better flossing techniques and tips and products for me to use at home. I can’t recommend them enough.

I’ve been in the US a year and I’ve managed to put off visiting the dentist — somehow there were always other priorities — work, holidays, cleaning my apartment… you know how it is. Well…recently while flossing, a tooth just sort of broke. Panic ensued… in my worst nightmare all my teeth fall out and I’m left with sad pink gums! «How will I review steakhouses on Unilocal if I can’t chew?», I howled. But help was at hand. A friend gave me Dr Silverstein’s number — I called and he fitted me in right away. The Doc and his staff and friendly, efficient and calm. Calm is a great thing in a medical practitioner. It takes skill to make a person feel relatively relaxed when lying supine, mouth agape with drills and suctions and god knows what else going on in there. Dr Silverstein gave a great, pain free injection(and I HATE needles) and was good at explaining what he was going to be doing and checking on me throughout the procedure. You also have a great view of the spires of St Patricks cathedral from his office. AND, he lets you pick the music to listen to while he works… its the little things, don’t you think? So– here’s the thing — good dentists don’t come cheap. I don’t have a comparison but it’s possible that the Doc is fairly expensive. I had a crown done and that works out at around $ 3000. Sounds a lot to me, but my American friends seem to think that is the going rate for crowns.
