Awesome spot for cheap basics, things you would buy at Walgreens typically. They even have Meyer’s cleaning products for cheap, and pantry staples. Lactaid milk here is only 3.99, a steal compared to whole foods. Other goodies I picked up: tamari, spices, coconut milk, lemon juice, ziplock and trash bags and cleaning supplies, mason jars, aluminum serving trays.

Not 24 hours and why that’s a good thing There’s two grocery stores within a block of this store that are 24 hours. Amazing as that availability is, obviously you pay for them being open 24 hours. They also tend to be smaller and not have as much selection. Shop smart is less expensive and has more selection. You’ll also find the typical Asian food stuff here.

A solid choice for non-perishable and pantry grocery items. They also have a decent stock of household items and supplies. They have a small amount of refrigerated/frozen items. Prices are cheap — much cheaper than Duane Reade on the corner. I always check Shop Smart and the discount shop across the street(next to Ludlow Fitness) before going to Duane Reade!

Cheapest place to buy milk in the city. Usually around $ 2 for a quart, or $ 3 for a gallon. Store is small and tight, and aisles wide enough for only one person, but store has most of the common items you would need when grocery shopping.

They’re starting to get more Organic goods in and they carry Meyer’s and Seventh Generation home goods. It is fantastic! The new renovation helped them carry more refrigerated items. They’re super cheap — love it. I would love it if they carried Harmless Harvest Coconut water, since they most likely would have it at a better price.

I live next door to this place, and I’ve stopped going. The refrigerated foods are very questionable. I bought some Popsicle and they were completely melted, which was pretty gross. And trying to find anything in there is a major challenge. They have decent prices, but unless I’m just stopping in for soy sauce or sugar, it’s not worth it. They also change their credit card policy as needed. Some times they require a $ 10 minimum and some times they don’t take them at all. The last time I was here I had $ 9.87 worth of stuff and they wouldn’t let me use my debit card it because it wasn’t $ 10 and I didn’t have any cash on me. So rather than sucking up the $.13, they lost a sale and a customer. Go to Essex Market, you can find everything you need, the food is fresh, and they take all payment methods!

Cheap, cheap, cheap. Lots of random home goods and food for great prices(half of Duane Reade) — feels like a 99 cent store. Normally probably better for non-perishables but I snapped and got almond milk and butter and I’m still alive. Do it, you won’t regret it.

$ 1.29 for a bottle of VitaminWater, which local chain Duane Reade sells for $ 2.19. This little store slays the buying power of the regional behemoth. It’s kinda like an Asian David.

I love Shop Smart. This is my go-to store for regular every day stuff that comes in a bottle, can, box, bag, or jar. Great prices, organized, clean, & good overall selection, with American, Mexican, & East Asian products(including some organic – mostly Newman’s Own). Also has a few odd regional finds, like Glory Mixed Greens & My-T-Fine Pudding, which looks like something the mom from A Christmas Story would serve. There’s also a small section of cold food(milk, cheese, eggs, sausage) that is okay. Can easily make a satisfying, healthy – or whiskey tango – meal from here. I thought about docking it a star because it closes at 8, but I really like it, especially compared to other one-stop-shopping choices in the LES.
