Came here for dimsum and the food is good and cheap. Everything is already made and brought out in carts. If you’re looking for affordable food this is a good place to go!

I gave a great review when this restaurant changed owners last year and it is unfortunate now because of an incident with one of the owners, Jenny, that my family, my friends and I will no longer dine at this restaurant. I always spend around $ 100 in pork buns and dim sum to take home to Annapolis. If I want the pork buns I usually call with an order and pick up my food. They only make a certain amount and frequently sell out. I don’t understand why they don’t make more because of the demand so I always call and so does my mom to make sure we get them. My husband and I were back to Brooklyn to visit my mom and family for Christmas. My mom ordered 7 orders of pork buns for my brother visiting from NJ but Jenny called and said she only had 4 orders left. My mom and husband went to pick up her order and my mom was upset because Jenny had forgotten her order three times in the past. Jenny was probably having a bad day or week but her behaviour toward my 90 year old mother was inexcusable. She couldn’t admit responsibility in forgetting to save those pork buns and instead of apologizing, she said to my mom«Take it or leave it». My husband responded saying that she was being disrespectful buy now Jenny responded by refusing to sell my mom the 4 orders of pork buns. I was not there but I cannot eat at this restaurant knowing Jenny behaved badly toward not only a good customer but a 90 year old woman. It is unfortunate I will no longer patronise this restaurant because I love their pork buns and dim sum. My family and numerous friends I have taken to dine there will no longer dine there either. However, I am sure that business is good and she can maybe afford to lose some clients. After all, her clientele are almost all local Chinese who probably won’t be reading my review. Wing Hing across the street has decent pork buns and good dim sum, so that will have to do. We were supporting Jenny’s business because she was a young woman starting a new business and I did like her. She unfortunately showed her dark side and has lost some good customers. She has my mom’s phone number and could have called to apologize. I still recommend you give this place a try but I like their pork buns and dim sum. Week days are less crowded. Evening meals were just ok.

This place keeps getting better. Our last dinner was amazing — lobster, crab, chicken, veggies, ma por tofu, yummy. Large plates, fresh food and reasonable prices I can get great food in the neighborhood without going to Chinatown or 8th Avenue. BYOB — no corking fee. The service was great and the folks who manage are very helpful. I can’t read Chinese but with the help of the host/hostess was able to order from the Chinese menu and the suggestions written on the wall. Give it a shot and ask for recommendations! Be back again.

It is located in a very crowded area, and where many people usually eat Kosher food. And since it is located in that area, they can get very busy since they may be the only place that offer Dim Sum and Seafood in the area. But honestly, they can do better. It is not that I think that their food is bad, but I think that it can easily get much better, since the place is clean and the people there are friendly, they just need that final little touch to make the place one that you want to return to. Like less oil in the eggrolls, and some more moisture to the fried rice dish. So small touches, which can change a lot. And I will come here again to update ;)

Had the dim sum here, and must say it’s pretty good. Being a vegetarian /pescatarian, there weren’t many dim sum offerings for me to choose from, however. I stuck to the shrimp dim sum and ended up ordering veggie fried rice to complete my meal. Everything I ate was delicious and I overall liked the restaurant and would return. The waiter was nice, accommodating and kept our teapot filled. If you’re not used to traditional dim sum, the experience might be a bit weird, but Shing Wong is a solid place to get your Cantonese food fix.

So this place has changed management quite a number of times and the name of the restaurant continues to vary, but note the location has never changed and that it has been a restaurant for as long as a remember. Now, I came here recently and have been because my grandmother really enjoys the food here. They offer Cantonese style food — from dimsum to seafood to meat, you name it — they probably have it. Their dimsum is like classic dimsum but one I particularly like is their fried white carrot cake. It’s cut up into cubes and more fried since there’s more surface area than your typical block of white carrot cake. There’s also some egg, pepper, and onion in it too — making a nice twist from the classic carrot cake offered by other places. My grandmother also celebrated her birthday here, so my large Chinese family all sat around a huge table. And with this, they were super accommodating. Because we had made reservations prior and given them a list of food that we would like to have(made the process much easier because we’d have to wait forever for our food). We ordered different dishes(mostly the typical Cantonese style veggies with some sort of meat) and the grand two lobster, six crab dish. Being that it is Chinese food, it tends to be very oily and a bit salty for my taste, but overall I thought it was very good. We had a lot to take home and they do expect you to take it home — it’s a lot of food! Waiters are all super attentive and the food is relatively cheap. Especially for a large dinner, it wound up being about $ 10, maybe a little over, per person.

I am not a person to give such low ratings unless there is something really wrong. I frequent this place for years and through different management. I will not be a patron until the next round of management changes. Food is average and what you can find anywhere on Ave U. Dimsum is average taste wise and price wise — came here because it was not as crowded as the other places on Ave U(not sure if that says anything). If I only came for dimsum, I would give it three stars with the acceptance of standard Chinese restaurant service. The most recent dinner reservations(have it two chances) turned me off. We made dinner reservations for large parties here two times in Feb 2015. We made advance reservations with cash deposit. The first time it was Chinese New Year and ridiculously crowded — I get it. We sat in crammed tables with stools where every time someone passed by we had to move out of the way. Dinner was decent and price was decent. So we thought we would give it another try. We went back the second time and explicitly asked for tables in the back when we placed a deposit and still got screwed in seating after getting a verbal confirmation. We went there and they screwed our seating and placed us on side tables. The place was overbooked and they do not efficiently move ppl fast enough meaning if I’m seated at 6pm — that table will not be cleared until 9pm at best. I timed the two tables that made 5pm reservations. To echo other reviewers, if you order seafood or anything that is market price — ask for the pricing and make sure you get what you expect. Review the bill in detail. They tend to write in Chinese script and it gets difficult to read. What bothers me the most is how they do their business. When getting change for dim sum, the cashier cannot calculate change correctly. When paying for dinner, they do not give you the deposit back for reservations. How on earth do you ask for deposits for reservations and not deduct it when paying?! We had to drive back twice to get the deposits for both dinner reservations. Never Again.

Came upon this hidden jewel while out for a friend’s birthday a few months back. Don’t let the unassuming front fool you. You are at the gates of heaven. We had the shrimp with walnuts and I have been craving it ever since. Made a special stop back here just to have it again. Lightly battered shrimp in a scrumptious honey mustard dijon sauce served over a bed of tasty broccoli surrounded by candied walnuts. You must try it. You will be a fan. Thanks to our hosts Benny & Jenny for a memorable experience.

Came here for a large celebration. The hosts rented out the whole space($ 350/table). Free Barefoot red wine for every table. The servers were nice and attentive, and the vegetables in every dish were really yummy. However, only the vegetables in every dish were yummy. Except for the chicken(which was effing superb), everything else left me(and my family) vaguely sick. The kicker: one of our male servers had really, REALLY long nails. Im talking long-ass Rihanna-ass stiletto sharp nails. And we got to watch him cut our oranges with no gloves on. Ignorance is bliss til you go home and throw up a bit of that last fried rice dish. Old oil and long-lasting taste of guilt. Some nail residue too. +1 for the chicken, *.5 for the nice servers.

Atrocious host. We asked how much for one lobster and he said 2/$ 25. We asked for just one lobster – he said $ 12. Great. The tea was served without sugar. No water was provided. The egg roll was the greasiest I’ve ever tasted. The pan-fry noodles were dry, dry, dry. We asked for some sauce for the noodles and he brought some(sweet) duck sauce for a savory dish. Awesome. The lobster we got came without a waste bin to throw the shells. We asked for a bowl and they didn’t understand the first time. So, all of the food was subpar, but what happened to us as we left the place was unprecedented. Previously, they showed us that the tip was included on the check. But, as we were leaving, the host explained that what was on the check was not a TIP but for TEA. TEA? You want to charge me for the complimentary tea everyone gets at Chinese restaurants? I’ve never been charged for tea before. Maybe you should charge me for tap water as well. He made a big deal out of it. I told him that we were pretty upset about everything, but he kept insisting that we pay more for his service. It made us very, very uncomfortable, and everyone left with a very sour taste in their mouths. As far as I remember, it’s the customer’s right to decide how much extra to tip, instead of being lied to and confronted when leaving the restaurant. Poor service indeed. They need to learn some manners.

This is one of the few dim sum restaurants in a relatively Asian neighborhood, so it is a lot of nearby residents’ go-to place for dim sum. That means that this restaurant does get somewhat crowded and space is limited, so be prepared to squish for crowded Sunday brunch! Even though this restaurant gets a lot of business, the food is at best mediocre. Dim sum dishes are alright, but my family agreed that the fried rice dish we ordered was bland and dry. They disliked it so much that half of the fried rice was left, and my family is usually not one to waste.
