Dr. Shapiro is amazing. I had a great experience at his office. He was very courteous and professional. He was very thorough with his eye exam and spent over an hour with me. It felt like my eyes had a major work out. He noticed nuances in my expression that told him how much I was straining to try to see clearly. His overall knowledge and insight was impressive. I will definitely be going back to work on improving my vision with exercises for what he diagnosed. I’m glad to have found such a good behavioral optometrist. I will post an update with my progress in a few months.

This review has been a long time coming, but I never got around to writing one after my comprehensive eye exam with Dr. Shapiro in November 2007. Is this guy even still in business? Not sure, but I suddenly felt passionate about expressing my opinion today, 5 years later, so take it for what you will. So 5 years ago, before I got my PRK, I wanted to get a routine eye exam, and found Dr. Shapiro after some Google searching. He’s a very nice man, but I had such a bad experience! First, he was the only one in the office, so every time the phone rang, he would interrupt our appointment to go answer it, which was totally annoying. Additionally, the lenses on his equipment were smudgy, which caused him to conclude that the prescription for my right eye had changed by more than 1.00, whereas my left eye had changed by only 0.25. I respectfully disagreed, because I knew that the vision in my right eye was not that bad. So he ended up just asking me what prescription I wanted for my contact lenses, and subsequently just wrote what I said. I never did end up using that prescription slip, because I didn’t trust it(I’m not an eye doctor, after all!). Plus, he wanted me to do eye exercise sessions with him, which would have been $ 115 per session. No thank you! I went to a different doctor afterward and got a more trustworthy prescription, and then ended up getting PRK two years later, but really just had to say that I do not recommend Dr. Shapiro for routine eye exams based on my experience!
