Came in, out of the very cold, looking quite frazzled and asked if I could order«to go». I was immediately told that it would be easily done and, «please have a seat over here». I ordered the linguine and clams which came in a reasonable time. The meal was delicious with 30, yes 30 delectable clams. I only counted because a previous reviewer had counted hers as 23! Thanks for making my Valentine’s meal special. The only reason I did not give 5 Stars is because I will come back for a proper sit down and see the whole picture.

Nice restaurant and fresh Italian food but from some reason they only accept Amex, which is strange considering Amex is not the selective credit card it once was. Not really effective at keeping the«riff raft» out like it was back in the 90’s.

Simply the best Italian food in New York. The food is approachable, authentic and always fantastic. Best dishes are the linguini with clams, gnocchi, house made mozzarella, stracciatella soup, veal milanese, well, as I write this, I realize it’s all incredible. Celebs abound. Cash only is what keeps this place from being too crowded to go, so I don’t mind it.

This place is my favorite Italian in NYC, hands down. Fantastic food, great service, simply amazing. Yes, they only take cash, but it is so good it doesn’t matter.

Excellent foods and service. It was very nice relaxing lunch in the busy city. Chicken was well cooked and fresh, cheesecake was awesome. Service was pleasant and gave me a nice break. Wonderful dining here.

After struggling to fit at a small table at Casimir up the road, we walked in the chill to find Sette Mezzo — we were so glad we did! The staff welcomed us and seated us at a very nice table near the front window, and the owner stopped by to introduce himself(and explain the cash-only situation). We had a beautifully prepared and presented three course Italian meal that we shared. We started with a house made rolotini of mozzarella with roasted eggplant; our primi was a rigatoni in a robust tomato and eggplant sauce with small cubes of melted mozz on it(great flavor and inviting textures); and it culminated with an amazing Veal Chop that was made over a charcoal grill(you could taste the amazing wood-fired flavor which worked great with the sliced mushrooms over the top). Accompanying this three course symphony was a solid bottle of Chianti Riserva that was a great match with each course. The service was perfect — filling our glasses to the right level(just below the apex and not glugging the wine into the glasses) and always being present without being overbearing. Yes, it is true that many patrons have accounts and the odd child running around at dinner time with an iPad can be distracting, but hey — this is the UES west of 3rd! Definitely take some cash(about $ 300 or thereabouts) for two and enjoy an antipasti, primi, secondi, and dessert with a nice solid Italian wine. Completely worth it — and certainly memorable!

Amazing food, elegant atmosphere. I forgot the name and just found it. Cannot wait to return again. It was a mature crowd when I last went but everything was perfection. Service was on point.

It was Super Bowl Sunday and my fiancé and I were wandering around the upper east side searching for a new place to eat. He had been looking at Unilocal and came across Sette Mezzo. Craving pasta, we decided to give it a try. To be honest we were very underdressed as we had not planned our night out. I was wearing uggs and tights, he a hoodie and shirt.(Not our normal attire but Sunday lazy day wear) Luckily, the staff let us eat there though we got a few stares. There was a few tables in the back so we were promptly seated upon arriving. We were the youngest people there. Everyone had to be 50s/60 plus, all dressed in a nice sweater or polo. It was an old money type of crowd. Walking in, the place was small and nice without being stuffy . Anyway, we started with the focaccia bread and olive oil on the table. Definitely a good sign that the food would be good just by judging the bread. Since the place is cash only, we decided to just order pasta entrees and didn’t get any appetizers.(Pasta entrees run around $ 25) I ordered orecchiette and he ordered linguine alle vongole. Just an FYI, all pastas can be ordered as a half order. Both were some of the best pastas we have ever tried in NYC.(We are both fans of Marea, Uva, and Spasso) The sauces were light and the pasta definitely al dente. The linguine alle vongole had a total of 23 clams? littleneck?(yes we counted) lined all around the perimeter of the plate. Never had we ever seen so many clams in one dish. My orecchiette with sundried tomatoes and broccoli was neither over seasoned nor heavy. It had a light tomato sauce that barely covered the pasta, but was the the right amount for the dish. Overall, we had a pleasant experience. Looking forward to eating there again in the near future.

The food is quite good and prices are medium-high, but acceptable. However 1) they only accept cash(?!?), 2) we ordered a truffle tagliolini(suggested by the waiter), who«forgot» to tell us it was 200 $. I had truffle in every possible way: tagliatelle, risotto, fettuccine, etc; price is generally 2 – 2.5X a normal main course, here it was 10 times more. I’m not complaining about the out-of-market price, rather about the fact they didn’t tell us before. We just had a $ 400+ bill surprise, without wine. And we had to pay cash… After kindly expressing my concerns the 4 waiters seemed quite sorry, but didn’t even consider a discount or offering an after dinner drink. Overall strongly not suggested.

Best gnocchi in the city hands down. It’s cash only so come with plenty, this place is not cheap but it won’t disappoint.

Don’t go if you don’t have cash lucky I wanted to treat my guests so after ordering drinks and salad I walked up and gave my credit card to the waiter so a check would not come to the table. He informed me that they did not take credit cards and only cash. When they found out that might be a problem they were rude collected the salad plates before they could be finished we left the drinks, paid for what we ordered and left. How rude can you be!!! we went next door to Bella blu it was delicious. Skip sette mezzo you will be treated like dirt if you are not a regular

A relaxing and palate pleasing experience. A destination restaurant, visit to enjoy the depth of the dishes while slowing your fast pace life long enough to enjoy an exceptional wine. We sat next to Woody Allen. Will be back.

Really? This is emperor’s clothes. There were three of us, all ordering different appetizers and entries. The food is mediocre at best, and very expensive,. It costs a fortune because it’s a tiny place with 4 people waiting to clean up after you. Staff are nice enough, but the place is very dull and boring. Expensive does NOT mean better! Wish we would’ve stayed in Hell’s Kitchen area where there were a ton of happening places rather than take my So Cal friend“s recommendation for this place.

We have been coming here whenever we travel to NYC since 1992 and it never disappoints. The specials are always tempting and seasonal — this time it was a burrata salad, ravioli w a sauce of wonderfully sautéed vegetables and squash blossoms, and the mushroom risotto. The«impossible» wine list is a great way to make affordable and slightly daring wine adventures. The fig tart was sumptuous. The staff is helpful and friendly and the owner engaging.

Excellent food, but it’s a «business» in here. No warmth, no friendliness, cramped quarters with extremely rushed service. They want you in and out and you feel it, especially if you’re not a regular, which is ok, but not at these prices. As a matter of fact, if you stay at the table longer than the managers think you should, they will rudely ask you to leave, which has happened to me one time too many. But I notice they will only ask women dining together who linger, NOT couples. Maybe this is the Italian way? As I said, excellent food, maybe the best Italian food in the city, but I like gracious service and gracious hosts. Oh and as another review said, «stuffy crowd»

i have tried out hundreds of restaurants in the city in $$$, $$$$ category. This place was well overprice given what it has to offer. Food is mediocre, service was casual, and atmosphere as restaurant was empty

Really great night out with friends. Sette Mezzo is a restaurant who caters to their regulars, this was evident when my wife and I walked in. Food is of a high level and the service is excellent.

I seriously could have licked my plate clean. Everything about my meal here was perfect. I came with some of my family members on a Monday night, and although it wasn’t jam packed, it was pretty busy for a Monday night. There were two different Mozarella/Prosciutto dishes on the menu for appetizers, so me and two of the people I was with shared both. I don’t remember the differences, although one had homemade mozarella, but they were both delicious. The portions were HUGE though! I would recommend sharing an appetizer– it was WAY too much food for one person. For dinner, based on the recommendation of fellow Unilocalers, I got a half portion of the Penne Sette Mezzo. For this dish the half portion was perfect, although if you’re not getting an appetizer, I might recommend getting the whole one. I was NOT disappointed. The pasta was cooked absolutely perfectly and the accoutrements were incredible. The only problem with this restaurant is that it’s cash only, so if you don’t have an account it can get tricky. But the food is to die for!
