I received a life changing hair wash by the talented Elena, who can intuit what the head in her hands needs.
She was the perfect compliment to getting a cut and color from my friend Ricky, formally a stylist at Avalon. I am so grateful I found my way back into his chair. He corrected the color to a more natural summertime blonde, and fixed the chunkiness of the previous cut. Ricky created an overall softer and more natural look.

I hate giving away my best secret in NYC, but here goes. It’s the best massage I’ve ever gotten and then some. I usually don’t like a male masseur due to feeling a little intimidated and shy, but with Shawn I had no worries. He’s sweet, respectful, kind. And knows what he’s doing. Each massage is perfect, different and he somehow knows exactly what I need without my even telling him. I can’t rave enough about Shawn. Oh, and get the 90 minute. You’ll feel like you’ve been on a week’s vacation. Can’t say enough.

I’ve followed Chloe from a few different salons, and she always does an incredible job with both cut and color. The staff at this salon are incredibly friendly, and I love the sunny open layout of the place! Even the flavored water is a nice touch…

Love getting my hair done by him. Starting seeing him a year and a half ago when I need a bad lob fixed– he got me in the same day and worked his magic. I now see him regularly for highlights & a cut and am always thrilled w the result! I can trust the quality of the work each time, which is not something you can always say. He’s good, he cares & he wants to make you look hot! He will also give you great work out tips :)

Sam Alter is the BEST hair stylist ever. He always does my color perfectly and I am extremely picky with my hair. I have had many bad hair stylists do my hair and not listen to what I want and I believe he is the best with someone who has experienced too many hair stylists not listening. I get very nervous before and after I get my hair done because I’ve had so many bad experiences but I can honestly say I am amazed when every time he does my hair it is exactly what I had asked for. I also like how he takes the time and recommends his personal opinion. A lot of stylists will do exactly as you say and not agree but if there is something he feels needs to be done or not be done he says it. I like how honest he is. He is great and my highlights have NEVER been brassy with him:)

This city is full of masseurs, however, finding one as good as Shawn is nearly impossible. Shawn is not only professional, he gives me one of the best massages I have ever had. If you have not been lucky enough to find a good masseur, then I highly recommend you give Shawn a try.
Finding a place that does men’s facial well is hard enough, however finding one that does them as well as Svetlana is nearly impossible. Svetlana is not only sweet & professional, she consistently gives me one of the best facials I’ve ever had.

Florinda simply is the coolest on the planet. Fabulous cuts and colors. She makes you feel like a new person.. We have known Florinda since more than years and she has never failed !!

Today, Sam Alter gave me the hair style of my dreams! I sort of teared up a bit because I was so pleased. I found out about Sam through Marissa, the beautiful niece of my childhood friend. The styles Sam gave Marissa were fabulous so I knew I would be in good hands, and so will you. Definitely book an appointment with Sam. He also does color and make-​up.
The salon staff was friendly and welcoming. So easy to be here.

I followed Olga when she moved to this salon for my Brazilian wax. She’s amazing, quick, and does an awesome job. I’ve had so many horror stories from different salons, and I finally found the right person! She uses strips, and I never have irritation. Make an appointment with her!

Are you looking for the best waxing in NYC? then Senses Spa is THE place. The ladies that moved here from Avalon spa are all very professional and do a fantastic job but Irina Hermann is above and beyond anyone I’ve ever met! This is the #1 Brazilian Bikini wax in the nation and likely the world. (I have lived in Brazil and believe me it doesn’t even come close) Irina is one of a kind. If you have never had a waxing with Irina you are basically missing out on life ;)
I am also going to try a hair cut here next time I visit, as the place is generally very appealing and the staff all kind, welcoming and customer driven.

Terrible. Avoid at all costs, single process is being reworded into «color correction» and thus will use more materials blah blah blah, and thus will cost more than what I have paid on gilt. Then why do you have to waste 45 minutes of my time? A complete waste of time and no service at all, you have to put a robe on yourself, seriously really?!!

Sam Alter is EVERYTHING! Cutting/​color/​makeup. He is incredibly skilled! I am a dancer/​model and have had Sam do all three on me with amazing results. I have very dark brown hair naturally (Curly from my quarter Puerto Rican heritage) and he has made me white platinum and steep blue. He has wonderful energy, personality and makes me feel at home. Most importantly he is knowledgable, talented, skilled and has years of experience. Don’t let his youthful face make you think otherwise!

Best wax in NYC. All the girls moved here from Avalon Spa (Christopher st) when the salon moved in the fall of 2015.
Ask for Agata or Olga. Both are skilled — they fly to Brazil and back in 7 minutes with very little turbulence along the way. Absolute perfection! Nothing makes a girl feel better.
Good price– $ 48– that is low for NYC.

For those in need of excellent waxing, look no further — especially if you are in need of men’s waxing. This place is top notch and doesn’t feel overly feminine or delicate. I would recommend their waxing services to anyone but especially those of us who have sensitive skin. I have always had great experiences with the aestheticians here and would suggest you get a good value. Pricing is fair with the highest quality staff and a very satisfying environment. It has a great atmosphere that is modern and contemporary and appealing to men and women. The former Avalon team — Olga and Company — can all be found here.
It is a bit hard to locate on 5^th Avenue, but after your first time you won’t forget. And don’t be put off by the Barbiesque branding /​website. It needs to be updated and doesn’t reflect the aesthetics of the spa or the quality of the staff at all.
Give it a shot! You won’t regret it!

I moved to NYC 6 months ago from Florida and I found Senses Salon online and saw great reviews. I had a very bad hair experience in another salon and my hair was all breaking off from the colorist there.
I feel very lucky to have been recommended to Ana Mateo. She has been a blessing for me and saved my hair. Finally all the broken pieces are growing back and from the treatments my hair is healthier again. Thank you so much to her and the salon. She is a wonderful person and an excellent hair dresser/​colorist.

After moving back to NYC I decided to see Sam at Senses for a haircut after reading rave reviews online about him, and now I understand where everyone’s coming from! It’s rare that you find someone who gives as precise and great a cut as Sam does. He has his own technique of dry cutting that results in the most perfectly texturized (layered) haircut that I ever seen! I have thick, sort of fine, kind of wavy hair, more on one side than the other, and Sam’s style of cutting is perfect for me. My hair literally looks like it should be in a magazine after a haircut with Sam. I walk out of the salon texting pics of my cut to my friends trying to convert them because he is such a master with the scissors. Go see him!

After 10years of not coloring. I went to Senses Ny and got my hair done by Anna. She is amazing and advised me on what was best for my naturally curly hair. Anna lightened my hair and at the same time made me feel at ease. The entire staff is incredibly accomadating and super friendly. I feel like a movie star!

Sam has been doing my hair for almost 10 years. Despite living in Boston, I make a point to see him at Senses New York whenever I can. From a short bob, to ombré «princess» locks — Sam can do it all, and he does an amazing job each and every time. Plus he’s hilarious, fun and so upbeat. I also look forward to not the results, but also the appointment experience with him!
The salon is easy to find, clean and the personnel are polite and always accommodating.
