I did not have a great experience with Save The children. I signed up to sponsor a child, with my young son, as a way to try to get him to begin giving to others. He donated a third of his pocket money to the sponsorship and I contributed the rest. We spent some time talking about the sponsorship; he chose the child, and we composed some emails to the child. I explained that he would be able to write to the child and hear back from the child we sponsored. After five months, we never heard a single thing from Save the Children, or from the child we sponsored. All we got was constant emails asking us to «check for updates» on the website(there weren’t any updates), and asking us to sponsor another child. This is a nonprofit, but that does not mean it is OK for it to mis-represent itself. On their website, they said we would receive a package of information, and they encouraged us to write to the child, saying the child would respond. We never received any information at all, or any explanation for the silence. Even after I emailed asking for info, they did not respond to that email.

People think that Save the children only helps people in other countrys. Growing up people thought of save the children as a place saving children in Africa, etc. However that isnt true. Among my other horrible childhood resume items, I was a save the children child. Save the children had an Inner City Program and helped my school get computers and to take myself and other homeless children on cultural trips to see the nutcracker, museums and all sorts of other places. Another entity worth supporting and helping!
