While making the bed one morning, I accidentally knocked a lamp off a nightstand that had belonged to my wife’s(late) mother. It was not an expensive lamp, but its sentimental value was irreplaceable. I can’t tell you how heartbreaking it was to see the tears in her eyes when it fell to the floor and shattered. She knew it was an accident and since the tiny lamps were in a matching set, she told me to just throw the pieces away. I couldn’t do that, knowing it was like throwing away a memory she had of her mother. So I meticulously picked up every piece of milk-white glass, careful not to miss the smallest of chards. I saved them into a plastic bag and tucked it away. I later shopped around for artists in this field who specialize in rebuilding glass and ceramics. They do not come cheaply and most are backlogged. So I set out in the fine city of NY, visiting various artists of the trade. The problem I had was this was not an expensive piece, so their interest was almost a bother and to deter me they gave me astronomical prices that were far beyond what my wife would have been comfortable with. I think I would have gotten into more trouble fixing it. LOL. Then one day, I visited a little shop up on Lexington. A one-woman show, Bo Studio LLC. Bo looked at all my pieces and was not too pleased, but said… yes… I can do this. I asked her if she was good and would I see any cracks. She smiled, looked back at me and said, «No. you will not see any cracks,» and that was that. She quoted me a price $ 200-$ 300 less than her competitors, which made me feel a whole lot better. And her turn-around time was more reasonable than her competitors. See the images of before and after and you can be the judge. I was expecting to see some trace of the breaks on the inside, but there wasn’t a line or blemish. I am seriously impressed with Bo’s work. She was wonderful to deal with and a master at what she does. My wife’s birthday is coming up and this will be a nice little surprise addition to her gifts.
