Dr. Huang is my spinal surgeon. He performed an anterior/posterior interbody lumbar fusion on my L5-S1 vertebrae. I chose Dr. Huang after doing a GREATDEAL of research. I was NOT disappointed. I had my surgery almost one year ago. Everything went PERFECT. Spinal surgery is not an easy thing to go through, but my final outcome is nothing short of amazing. I have a whole new life thanks to Dr. Huang. He is not a warm and fuzzy type of doctor, if that’s what you’re looking for. But is not unfriendly, either. He is very business-like and professional and extremely knowledgeable and skilled. And THAT is what you need him to be. My only complaints: Office staff can sometimes be a little… snooty? But I kind of don’t care about that. Generally speaking, I’ve always gotten what I needed. Wait times can sometimes be long. It’s not unusual for me to wait 1 – 2 hours in the waiting room. But, in my opinion, it is a small price to pay for the success of this surgery. He is an amazing surgeon and many people demand his time. I am willing to be patient. Sometimes I have had difficulty getting a phone call through to his office. I’m not sure why that is. That’s probably the most frustrating thing I’ve had to deal with. But, ultimately, I’ve always gotten what I needed from his office and from him. I have never been charged ONEPENNY by his office. They will work with whatever your insurance is willing to pay them, and they will not balance bill. Dr. Huang will take as much time as you need during your office visit. He will entertain any and all questions and make sure you feel confident with the information he gives you. He is very honest. He won’t sugar-coat anything to try to get your business. He will inform you of any and all risks. He will make sure you understand every procedure. After my surgery, I did develop an infection(this had NOTHING to do with the hospital or Dr. Huang… this happened after I got home and was due to other circumstances). Dr. Huang made sure to see me in his office ASAP and got me through a difficult time. I was extremely impressed that he was able to help me clear up that infection WITHOUT the use of antibiotics and without further hospitalization. I didn’t think that was even possible. I am also a person who is extremely drug sensitive and he went out of his way to work with my issues. If I ever have any other spinal issues, I will not hesitate to return to Dr. Huang and HSS. He is a fantastic surgeon.

I’ve never liked surgeons, something about their extremely Type A personality turns me off. But very rarely, there is a «diamond in the rough,» so to speak. Dr. Huang really impressed me with his polite professional manner and excellent bedside manner. His history taking and physical exam skills were on-par with a studious, determined medical student(that’s a compliment). He was very patient and even went over the MRI pictures with us. He didn’t seem to be in a rush and was very thorough with answering questions. He made us feel very comfortable and never once seemed annoyed or defensive. He also gave his unbiased medical opinion and went over all the information on the risks, benefits, and complications of an anterior cervical disketomy and fusion. He was also quite handsome and fit the build of an «orthopod,» if you get my drift. I only wish there were more surgeons out there like Dr. Huang!
