I have never had a problem with Ros until he went away. I went to pick up my very expensive leather skirt and cashmere sweater and the woman handling his business went through every item of clothing in his shop and could not find my clothes. She said she would call me and never did. I called every few weeks for 2 ½ months until a few weeks ago when he finally called me and tried to tell me «why couldn’t you find your clothes on the rack in my shop». Basically he tried to put the blame on me for him having lost my clothes.

Mr. Stanislav Ros provides outstanding personal attention and is a great listener. Whether I decide to have work done or not, each time I bring garments to him, he is willing to walk me through all the scenarios – how much will it cost with this but not that alteration? how will he make this change? etc., etc. I have been looking for someone like Mr. Ros for a long time – someone who takes pride in the craft(he will move an entire sleeve placket up to keep the proper proportion rather than simply cut the sleeve shorter) and who likes to talk about it. I’ve had other tailors upset with me for«wasting their time» after deciding not to have an alteration made the way that they recommend, but Mr. Ros is not at all offended if I decide to pass on one of his suggestions. I am short and large-chested, so it takes a lot of work to make a button-front shirt look good on me. Some shirts involve a re-cutting of the pattern. Because of his experience creating custom shirts and suits, this isn’t an overwhelming prospect for him. During one visit, I noticed a receipt with a rough sketch of a wedding dress pinned to his wall and asked him about it. It was for his daughter’s friend. Her grandmother had passed down her wedding dress to her mother who had passed it down to her, but the friend couldn’t zip it. Since the original silk was irreplaceable, Mr. Ros took some of the silk from the train and created two panels that he added to the bodice. The risk-averse part of my brain could only think of the liability if he had made any errors. His response? «Don’t take the project if there’s any chance you’re going to mess it up.» I can’t recommend this tailor highly enough.
