Definitely won’t be coming back. Despite their array of hair products, the salesman was very pushy and way more interested in making a buck than listening to my particular hair needs. Rude customer service staff as well. I’ll be sticking to Amazon.

I only found out about this shop looking for Halloween bits for my outfit! The store has a large range of products from a wigs to fake tan, however I don’t think the prices vary that much from sephora well not for the products I buy, even though I went on Halloween the store was fully stocked and I could choose from Many great outfits and the staff were useful getting products from the very high shelves! Great stop if in need of a costume!

I don’t know why I continuously go to any Ricky’s NYC. They are lazy workers who refuse to do their job. I was on my way to work as a professional, licensed hair stylist and needed Bobby pins. The credit card system was down and they REFUSED to call the credit card company and take a copy of my card even though they said they had the power to. So they made me run into the cold to an ATM to get cash for them. Problems like this occur at every Ricky’s in the city, not including the proshop. Save yourself the time and annoyance and order your hair supplies online.

Great place for things you think you need, higher end that Duane Reade and has stuff you could really find handy for your beauty and hair needs. It’s also not as overwhelming and crowded as the CVS, Walgreens and DR if all you want are beauty things. To give you an example they sell Haivana sandals(sp?) even for kids, nail pooish, tape for strapless dresses or open shirts that would otherwise expose yourself, spray bottles, irons, hair dryers, you get it…

This is my Ricky’s Right here by my apt. I come here when I don’t get my stuff outside of Manhattan. IF I buy in Manhattan, I come here. Sometimes they have really good deals and specials and if you join their email program, they send via email and your receipts deals for the next time you shop. When I use the deals or shop their sales, things are a good deal. They have a lot of beauty products esp for the hair. They have a lot of black hair care products and thats Y I come. Those aren’t always easy to find if you want the good stuff. They have skin care and nail care as well as hair accessories. They have everything, but can be pricey if not on sale. Reasonable though, not super high. Sometimes the workers ask to help, sometimes they don’t. When they do check me out for my purchase, they are always nice.

I’m confused as whether Ricky’s is mostly for hair products or for DIY costumes? I’m rating this purely as a hair supply store, in which I give 1 star. I went in looking for 2 things that I would THINK a hair specialty store would have: box of bobby pins and a «you curl» hair curling rod. Well they didn’t have any boxes of bobby pins, just small packs. And when it came to the curling rod, the sales rep had no idea what I was talking about. Finally he figured out that they had ONE in the entire store. One brand, one type and it was not the one I wanted.(The ones they sold were big on top and got smaller, I needed the opposite.) It was a total waste of time! I can’t believe a hair store doesnt’ hold large quantities of bobby pins? So you know where I went next that had EVERYTHING? Duane Reade!!! Duane Reade had large amounts of bobby pins AND they had the Conair You Curl curling iron rod. Plus reward points and a better return policy.(You cannot return items at Rickys’ for hair products, exchange only.) I’d rather Amazon or Duane Reade it!

I love me some Ricky’s. I don’t go there for the costumes… I go for the hair stuff. You see… I am a hair product junky. I have way to many things… but I continue to buy more. Stuff to do my hair curly… stuff to do my hair strait. I just have a plethora of things related to hair. Usually…I would have to order my hard to find products online… pay shipping… wait for it to arrive… bla bla bla. But with Ricky’s right around the corner I now have a one stop shop for all my addiction needs. They have everything you may need related to hair. Product, brushes, irons, dryers, color… etc etc etc… They even have kerastase! Love this place!!!

This Ricky’s is small. That’s the biggest problem. Other Ricky’s are fairly large, and really don’t get confusing with their own inventory or store breakdown. But hey, this is midtown Manhattan, there are going to be less people clamoring for costumes around here than say the WV. They have your typical stock of costumes, but for some reason I find most Ricky’s I go to boring. It’s the same old stuff. There’s nothing like creating your own costume, it just makes the whole thing feel more accomplished, awesome, and memorably affable. However, they have some odd items that you wouldn’t notice until you realize that, because of the lack of space, they tower above all the general stuff, almost unreachable. This particular branch has a very nice staff though; they are down to earth and fairly knowledgable about helping you out with your costume ideas.
