Something told me to try out James for some last minute hair– Usually a dangerous feat! Well… Everything aligned! I was able to slip in (typically not possible with his schedule) & he was delightful & gave me gorgeous hair! Hallelujah Birthday Hair that works!

love this cat he is a creative genius i am addicted to this shop like crack cocaine, no really james joyce is amazing on every level, very professional and clearly has mastered his craft. he is spot on and i wouldn’t trust my to any other hair dresser.

AMAZING EXPERIENCE! i walked in to try and schedule for next day (i realized too late it was appt preferred) but they took me right away. Dewi cut and styled my short angled bob to perfection. Entire staff was friendly, accommodating and actually were happy to be there all working together. Dewi had another client after me and my cut went a little longer than anticipated, but she gave just as much care and attention as if i was a long standing client and i had booked! Her second appt was a blowout and she trusted her co worker so much she offered her client the option to get seen on time by her co worker if that was okay to make sure the other clients appt time was honored. The trust dewi had for her team was awesome, and the client opted for the other stylist and her hair still looked amazing. So all were pleased and satisfied! I will ABSOLUTELY be back. Best cut and experience ive had in NYC in the 7 years ive lived here! THANK YOU!

My friend recommended James to me after I had a few bad experiences with colorists in the city. James did an amazing job highlighting (and fixing) my hair back to my desired dirty blonde color. I have been back for a Keratin treatment that left my hair silky smooth and very straight. Definitely will be returning for all of my hair needs in the future!

This is it! The 1^st Bad review for this Guy called James @Revolver Salon on 8^th Ave. Seriously, what is this guy? Why didn’t he try to sell me overpriced hair products? And why in the world is he so quick yet good with the shears? I came here with the expectation to be treated like everywhere else. Overcharged, not listened to and heavily misunderstood. For Pete sake, this is New York City or not! This Salon is really unheard of, and James is way too nice and experienced. Why would I ever wanted to come back here?! Obviously not for this 5 Star rated quality business. Obviously, not. But don’t take my word for it. Oh Lord no! Just find out for yourself. If you want Hollywood «red-​carpet-​treatment» service from a salon… in New York (Really?) you might as well give your money to this affordable, high quality establishment. As for me, this is it! I will make sure to tell everyone I know about this place and James, and the horrific BEST ever 5 STAR CUSTOMER SERVICE I experienced in this city. I dare you to go there and see for yourself. I warned you though.

I’ve been going to James for 5 years and I can honestly say he’s the most solid hairdresser I’ve ever had in 20+ years of going to salons. I’m a dark brunette (now w gray) that’s been for colors from natural to red to platinum blonde and he’s done all of them flawlessly, not to mention great haircuts on hair short, long, curly, or straight. Indispensable.

James is a hair color genuis, exacting, and intuitive. He is also a cool guy and his salon attracts the most interesting people in town. A total gem of an experience all around especiallyfor the quality of his work.

In a city full of snotty, over priced hair stylists, James is a dream! His color is amazing and super reasonably priced. He’s never done me wrong! I highly recommend!

James Joyce (yes that’s my hair stylist’s name) has saved my hair. It was a mess before. I’d dyed my hair blue but it kept washing out very quickly. I was ready to give up and dye it black. James was able to use a permanent dye so now I only have to dye it when my roots need a touch up. I am constantly getting compliments on the cut and color. I’ve had blue hair for over and a year and a half now and I’m not sure when I will go back to black.

James is just the BEST! He is fantastic with color and always manages to know exactly what I want or need. I implicitly trust him and he has been with me for years from chopping 12 inches off to growing it back and all the fun in between. Also his blowouts are BOSS!.James is a star and can make you look like one too… or a punk rocker or hip suburban mom (whatever you’re into). Go see him!

I went to all of the high-​end usual suspects in NYC in an attempt to get the correct shade of red. It was on a whim that I discovered James nearly 4 years ago, and I haven’t gone to anyone else since. He was the first to get the color right. He also did the nearly-​impossible by getting ALL of the red OUT when I went back to blonde. No one mixes color like him. Also, the product he uses is excellent: I color my hair every 3 – 4 weeks – it’s a miracle it hasn’t fallen out. He gives excellent cuts and perfect blowouts. Because of my profession, a hair mishap could cost me a job. I feel totally at ease with James as I know I am in good hands. Hip, intimate salon. The best value in NYC.

I have been getting my hair done by James for years and he always does an awesome job! I originally went to him with jet black hair and he gradually transformed me back to blonde taking a few visits as to not strip and break my hair which was a GREAT move its never been healthier! The salon has great energy and we always have so much fun!!!

James is the ultimate stylist. I have been in New York for 10 years and have been through 6 different hair dressers until I met James. His cuts are perfect. He’s also an incredible guy. Earlier this year I unexpectedly ended up being stuck in the hospital for 3 weeks awaiting the birth of my first child. I’d planned on getting a haircut and some other things done before the baby’s arrival but my admittance to the maternity ward early put a wrench in my plans. My sister called James and arranged to have him come cut my hair in the hospital. It was such a pick me up and such a nice thing to do. James Didn’t have to make a «house» call and it meant the world. I’ll never find a better hairdresser! I loved the cut and the company! Yay James!!!

James is THE BEST! I don’t trust anyone else in Manhattan with my hair. I have gone to him for 4 years. James listens to what his clients want, and he can cut/​color/​style any hair type. Since James started giving me blonde highlights (and wonderful cuts), I have received SO many compliments on my hair color.
His shop assistant is always very kind and gives great head massages!

James Joyce is my hair savior praise be unto him. I came to him a sad girl with boring brown hair and now I walk among the city a multidimensional redhead collecting compliments from people of all ages and boroughs. He is incredibly talented, honest, motivated, and hilarious. You will NOT leave an appointment with him without looking like an amazing supermodel/​shampoo commercial diva. If you are considering doing anything to your hair EVER — have James Joyce do it or be sorry.
