I selected Dr. Clarkson for Invisalign after visiting one other orthodontist who I didn’t feel comfortable with. [That orthodontist wouldn’t let me ask questions during the canned Invisalign video and when the video was over, he said he didn’t have time to ask answer questions.] Dr. Clarkson is an extremely cordial, very competent orthodontist whose fees are extraordinarily high. I selected her because she impressed me during the consultation and because she accepted a payment plan. The work she did was fine and I’m happy with the results. In retrospect, I wish I had visited a few more orthodontists. I would not have selected her. I was charged $ 375 for the consultation, which I assumed would be incorporated into the overall fee.(Shame on me: I just realized this as I am now reviewing my invoices.) Her fee for my Invisalign was $ 10,000(+ the $ 375). I believe that is at the very high end, if not over it. Of course, you want competent work done, but an orthodontist taking molds and sending them to Invisalign to produce the aligners is not rocket science either. During our initial consultation, Dr. Clarkson would not tell me what the fee would be for the retainers, stating that she didn’t know what it would be by that time. The foregoing is completely my fault for not conducting my due diligence. What was disturbing though, was that Dr. Clarkson charged the unconscionably high rate of $ 350 for just one retainer –a retainer which I later learned was not even an actual Invisalign product. When I questioned her extensively over a period of time over whether the retainer was indeed Invisalign, she was continually evasive. [Eventually, she did refund my $ 350, and she mailed me the retainer, which she had no use for anyhow.] [Invisalign retainers(under the trade name Vivera) come in sets of four. The new orthodontist I found charged less than $ 350 for my set of four.] So, all in all, on the positive end, Dr. Clarkson’s services and bedside manner are high quality and she accepts a staggered payment plan. However, the service does not warrant the exorbitant cost and I felt that in the end I did not trust her.
