Messed up my order and the delivery guy was so rude! I would never have such a guy step at my door again. If this is how they operate, I am pretty sure they won’t be in business for long.

No matter where I go this place always has the best food! I have tried places all over Manhattan, The Bronx, & Yonkers, but Red Star has the best Chinese food. If you go here I suggest getting the General Tso Chicken! I highly suggest going here!

Food still high-quality — updating the review to indicate that they no longer deliver. i pick-up the food now– proprietor and family are a pleasure to visit — always gracious and accommodating.

This was the worst take out experience I have ever had in NYC. I ordered the food on seamless, it took over and hour(not exaggerating) and then they forgot to put the rice in the bag. I called the restaurant and I told them and I was asked if I saw a white cardboard container in the bag. I thought to myself, «really?!» I was offered an «I’m so sorry.» and was not delivered any rice. Not the end of the world if at home, but horrible lunch hour experience!

The food here is good and all of the staff are friendly. However, I get terribly sick EVERYTIME I eat here. I don’t know if it’s an allergic reaction to something in the food or the food’s cleanliness that’s making me ill, but since the food is tasty & they have good customer service, I think 3 stars is fair.

I’ve lived above this restaurant for over a year and they’re consistently one of my go-to places for when I’m happy, sad, drunk, sober, really hungry, and not that hungry. Their prices are fantastic, especially the lunch special. For around $ 7.50-ish, you can get an entrée with fried rice, an egg roll and a soda. And that’s enough food for at least two meals if you’re like me. They’re always very friendly and prompt. They know how I like my fried rice(extra veggies!) and, while the food isn’t five star quality, it’s definitely delicious quality and that’s all that really matters, right?

My favorite East Harlem Chinese takeout! Nothing fancy, but does not disappoint. I order from here probably twice a month. This being Chinese takeout, the lunch deals are dirt cheap. Pros: Good portions of mostly good(if inconsistent) quality. Very accommodating of special orders, have never gotten my order wrong!(Huge!) Nice people, remember your preferences — seems like a nice family. Cons: Not the best communicators — you may have to ask how long and how much, they will just hang up on you after taking your order. Take longer than they say on the phone. 10 min = 20, 15 = 25, pretty reliably. Delivery is hit or miss, depends on the person/location/time of day. Consistency can be hit or miss. It’s never awful, but only rarely great.

When in doubt order the sweet and sour chicken. The food is average for what it is.

Quick and good service. There’s a little kid behind the counter learning the business early and he’s pretty good. The sesame chicken isn’t as good as other places but good enough.

I’m lucky enough to live a few doors down from Red Star. From the outside, doesn’t look like anything impressive — typical tiny NY Chinese restaurant. The food, however, is delicious and inexpensive. If you’re expecting the greatest Chinese food you’ve ever had, go somewhere else. However, for the price and the location, this place is fantastic! Their sesame chicken is amazing, love their moo shoo, fried dumplings and wantons are delicious. Often, when I order from places like Red Star, I worry what I’ll get. This place hasn’t failed me yet.

I was really excited to read a good review of a Chinese restaurant in Harlem and was really looking forward to my food. I ordered Chow Fun(beef) and fried dumplings. So why three stars? Based on three key categories when it comes to delivery food: quality/taste, delivery time, attitude. I can’t really fairly judge this place as only half of my food was good — the chow fun half. It was pretty yummy and I actually loved the beef that was inside the dish. It was very delicate and super flavorful. I would get this dish again and def recommend it to others. The dumplings were the worst I’ve had in the city — they weren’t fully cooked and the stuffing was pretty… umm…nasty. Since the chow fun is an entrée it weighs a little heavier on importance so food gets 3 stars. As for delivery time — 45MINUTES for Chinese food!!! I called and I guess they remembered my order so I received it shortly after my call. The attitude — the delivery guy was super apologetic and very nice and greatly for my good tip(I had to throw him an extra buck b.c. he clearly hustled over… he was out of breath… maybe it was just the 4 flight hike). Good attitude with bad delivery time zeroes this category out but once again… attitude takes priority so 3 star for the overall interaction/experience. For a Harlem Chinese food delivery place I was pretty satisfied. Will probably order from here when I’m in the mood for some Chinese.
