I’ve been a long time fan of Luke’s Lobster so when I read somewhere that Red Hook Lobster Pound has the best lobster rolls in the city right now I certainly had to investigate. Particularly since their Manhattan shop is not too far from my job. And wow! After having their BLT lobster roll I had to agree! The bread is toasted just right and the lobster is cooked and seasoned perfectly. My only gripe is that it is pricey and you know one lobster roll is barely enough to make you full.

REALTIMELUNCHREVIEW! I ordered it yesterday, for delivery today. Arrived within the one hour window I chose. Tried Lobstah Mac, peel ‘n’ eat skrimps, and Lobstah BLT. Mac was solid! Very generous portion of meat, most of which was claw! Rich sauce, without being cloying. Just enough to coat the pasta and meat. Nice balance of noodle and meat(heh). Acceptable portion for the price and quality. For the price, can’t really complain about the size, as midtown options are about the same(maybe a bit larger roll) for more moolah. The fit one slice of tomato on one side… and only one slice of bacon(albeit good quality bacon) on the other. Really needs another piece of bacon… or a couple pieces crumbled up and tossed with the lobstah(??) to make it a proper bacon presence. But good overall. Nice lobstah. Perfectly cooked. Love the chipotle seasoning. Wasn’t overdressed with sauce. 12 generously sized shrimp. Peeled easily. Tender. Good boil. Nice flavor and spice. Might’ powerful cocktail sauce(LOVED the strong horseradish presence). 3.5, rounded up to 4-stars, as I didn’t travel to get these goods. Wouldn’t list it as destination, but would consider ordering again through Caviar… and definitely poppin’ in if I found myself in their ‘hood(or saw their truck)!

Picked up an Eat24 order(which wasn’t ready well after the pickup window) of the Tuscan Lobster Roll $ 17.00(Tossed in a basil vinaigrette.) after missing their anniversary special a few months back. A 4-star riff, but their traditional would’ve earned a 5-spot.

My favorite roll in the city. Maine wins. End of conversation.

The lobster roll is fresh and tasty. You can sit outside and enjoy the weather on a nice day while sipping a beer or wine. The alley is closed so you need to enter from the 1st street side.

I’m rating 4 because the roll was really small for $ 17. Don’t get me wrong, the lobster was tender and delicious though. I ordered when they were at Madison Square Eats because they are normally to far to get to during the workday. Most of the meat is claw meat which is typically sweeter. I Tried the CT and ME and they were both delicious. Of course warm and with better was the best, but sometimes you want to choose a healthier option. :) Would go back.

The lobster portions are huge, so thats definitely a good value at $ 17.00(for NYC standards at least). The sandwich overall was just okay. Felt it lacked a bit of seasoning. The green onions are a nice touch to add freshness.

After receiving some recommendations for Red Hook Lobster Pound, we decided to make the trek down to see Red Hook and have dinner in the neighborhood. Red Hook itself is pretty weird place – it is quite a hike because there is no easy way to get there, and it is not necessarily a charming neighborhood, but there are definitely some gems there. We made our way to the restaurant, and they were just clearing up a few tables, so they were able to seat us within a few minutes. We must have arrived at the right time because shortly after, every table was full and there was a wait. We love Sixpoint Brewery and were pleasantly surprised to see that they had a house beer from there on draft. It’s called Pound4Pound, and like everything that Sixpoint does, it was awesome and paired really well with our dinner. We started with the Oysters Rockefeller. These were fried oysters served a top a bed of creamy spinach and bacon topped with a dollop of some type of aioli. They were out of this world! I thought I would love the lobster roll, but the oysters are what is making my mouth droll thinking back to this dinner. If you like oysters, or even just fried food, you will love these! For our main dishes, I got the Maine lobster roll, and he got the lobster mac and cheese. My Maine lobster roll was perfection – it lives up to the hype. The lobster mac and cheese was cheesy and creamy and wonderful as well! After we finished our meal, we were contemplating ordering a slice of key lime pie for dessert when they brought out a complimentary whoopie pie for us to share. It was such a nice surprise! The service was top-notch throughout our entire meal, and everyone working there was super pleasant and kind. It seems like they genuinely enjoy working there, which was a super nice change of pace after having a string of run-ins with very bad service earlier that week. Red Hook Lobster Pound is awesome and definitely deserves five stars. It is also worth taking the trip to Red Hook to check out.

If you’re looking for food that isn’t too heavy, but still delicious you should come here! Cute little place that makes you feel like you’re in Maine. I got the Connecticut roll and it was buttery goodness. HUGE chunks of lobster. The combination of the toast, butter, and green onions was heaven.

Let me just say that this lobster roll did not disappoint(except I wish the portion size was bigger for the price). Fresh, tender and sweet — both the lobster and the roll were on point! I needed to order another one because the roll was pretty small, but when in Rome… or NY, do what the NYers do, right? I would definitely come back.

Oh so good, but oh so expensive. Everyone and their mom knows that lobster rolls are expensive, but this place was on the Thrillist list for THE best lobster roll and I can confirm that. Their rolls are perfectly warm and crisp with very fresh lobster. Just make sure to get dessert or bring a checkbook if you want to be full :)

This review is for their truck at the Coney Island Smörgåsbord. After the Mermaid Parade we were hungry and passed by the food trucks. My friends ordered the Maine style roll and I ordered a Connecticut style roll. This one was served warm and had paprika, butter, lemon and was topped with scallions. It was soooo good! I love LOVE love seafood and their lobster was fresh and delicious. The bread was also toasted which added the right amount of crunch on the outside with the contrast of the big lobster chunks on the inside. I will definitely be back to check out this and the bk locale to sample more of their menu. Side note: my order took longer than the others because they were preparing a new batch of lobster and the staff was very apologetic and even threw in a free bag of salt & vinegar kettle chips for the wait. They demonstrated great customer service. Great food and great service. Couldn’t ask for anything more.

Went because it was listed as one of New York’s best«cheap eats»(meaning under $ 10). Turned out not to be cheap OR particularly good. Ordered the signature«Maine style» lobster roll. For $ 16. Heard this place was good, so I didn’t mind it too much. When I got it, it was *pitifully* small, and while the lobster wasn’t bad, it just didn’t really taste very good. It was just a little buttery, and a little fishy. Honestly, I enjoyed the bread the lobster was on the most. So don’t get sucked in by the hype about this place. Especially for the price, it REALLY isn’t worth it.

$ 16 lobster rolls made with huge chunks of lobster. I got the Maine style and it was all lobster with just a touch of mayo. My boyfriend got the Connecticut, which was also heavenly. The space is super cute and makes you feel like you’re by the beach. For the reasonable price and cute décor, this place should be on your list.

So technically I went to the pop up shop at the new Smorgasburg in the Seaport in FiDi. I tried the lobster BLT with chipotle mayo. Excellently toasted bun and fresh lobster by the ‘sea’, who can complain. I’ve heard the menu at this location is quite small compared to their full shop. I will definitely visit again.

Red Hook makes some of the absolute best lobster rolls I have ever had. I have only had their lobster rolls off of their NYC food truck, but I can’t imagine they can get any better than that. Their rolls are a bit pricey, but well worth the money, in my opinion. I tend to go for their Connecticut Style lobster roll — hot and buttery!

Their name says it all. All they got is lobster. Lobster rolls, lobster mac and cheese, etc. The staffs are friendly. Really patient and willing to explain things. They have a bathroom so that’s a plus. This place can be considered a hole in the wall. All the way at the end of a alley. It is super chill and relaxing here with no ridiculous crowd and good food. Con — No free water. They expect you to pay extra for drinks which is in a sense ridiculous because the good itself is expensive.

I suppose my first mistake was trying a lobster roll here in the middle of the dreary winter. All in all, it was average. The Lobster roll I got was not as full as some of those depicted in the photos. I got the CT style — which was pretty average. The lobster felt dry. The corn was ok-good, as was the Mac and Cheese. Overall, just ok. The wheat beer was great. I think for these prices, I’m better off going to proper restaurants like Mary’s fish camp or Pearl’s. I’m probably biased because of summers spent noshing lobster rolls in Maine. I did notice a happy hour special pasted to the Board. They offer discounts on food and drink. I’d recommend taking advantage.

Lets start off by saying this is some pricey food and if you don’t plan to drop a fair amount of money, you will probably not be full. On the other hand, when I decide to eat lobster, I already know the entry fee. I Nom’ed: ¼lb Maine Lobster Roll(16) ¼lb Tuscan Lobster Roll(16) — These two rolls taste wise, weren’t too, too different to me. The lobster tasted very similar in both but contained different greens. There wasn’t much mayo mixed into the Maine(plus for me) and the Tuscan didn’t have too strong of a vinaigrette taste(also a plus). Both came loaded with lobster and served on a toasted roll and tasted fresh and great. Lobster Elote(12) — I enjoyed this very much. It had all the street corn taste but with the added lobster pieces(decent amount)! I had alot of «shopping cart»(authentic as it gets) ghetto elote in my time and the blend of mild, sweet, with the touch of lemon juice tasted great, nostalgia great. Expensive still though for what you get, the downside. Steve’s Key Lime Pie Tartlette(5) — Small, tart but sweet. Nothing really special about this pie. Think custard with a lime meringue. Maine Root Spicy Ginger Soda(3) — This is one of the craziest sodas I’ve ever drank. I took a gulp and it had a sweet carbonated ginger taste then 2 seconds later… BURNNN! I suspect they added cayenne in the soda to give it that crazy burn aftertaste. It’s very interesting but I would not get this again, its just too strong for me. Good to try and cry at least once though(try throwing some cayenne into a sprite for a homemade ghetto version and see how it goes lol). Summary: Prior to Red Hook, I would always hit one of the Luke’s Lobster locations to get my L-Roll fixes, but I am now definitely split on which I like better. Both are good when it comes to Lobster Rolls(would probably flip a coin), but if I wanted something else with the roll I“d probably go to Red Hook.

Red Hook Lobster Pound NY: Manhattan: East Village 3pm Saturday 16th August 2014 Four Stars After finding out that Yuji Ramen inside of Whole Foods was closed, I stumbled upon this small eatery. I ordered a Connecticut Style Lobster Roll($ 16) and side of house-made coleslaw. It seems a little expensive but there was a quarter pound of large chunks of lobster, which made it well worth the price. The toasty hotdog bun with the Warm Buttery Meat made for a delicious meal. The Briny Pickle and vinegary coleslaw were also very good. Overall, I like my first lobster roll experience. Next Stop: Luke’s.
