Has a lot of other types of dishes like Indonesian, Japanese Chinese… would have preferred more Malaysian options but was more than pleased with my choice of Malaysian curry with rice. The curry has coconut milk which is soothing and none of that strong basil food that thai food tends to have. Would come again to try other dishes but the commute from Jersey makes it a monthly option. The service is very receptive… just raised my head in there direction and they were coming over to me.

Great little Malaysian place! We made a last minute reservation on a Saturday night and we were glad we chose this restaurant. The food was good throughout, the drinks strong and the service excellent. For appetizers we got the roti canai, Malaysian wings and curry puffs which were all delicious. For the main course we decided to follow other Unilocalers’ advice and got the Nasi Lemak, which was a great choice! Every element on the plate from the coconut rice to the shrimp peanut relish was amazing and they all complemented each other wonderfully. The Mee Goreng was solid. We also got the Assam Laksa which was packed with flavor but was a little too tangy and spicy for some of us. The service was attentive and friendly. Ambience was good too and cocktails were tasty and strong. Good lychee mojito that wasn’t overwhelmingly syrupy like at some other places. We will definitely be coming back here next time we have a craving for Malaysian food.

Pricey for dinner. I think lunch specials are better Some of the best pad Thai and massamun curry. The drinks and beer was awesome. 1 drink each along with 1 appetiEr and 1 entrée. 2 people 80 bucks. The xxx mojoto was awesome.

Came in close to closing time. We were warmly greeted and cared for. Ordered the calamari and chicken pad Thai. The calamari was so tender and wonderfully seasoned. It was definitely a great start to the meal. The chicken pad Thai was outstanding. I look forward to visiting again and trying other dishes they offer.

If you are skeptical about Rasa because they also serve other South East Asian and Japanese cuisine, don’t worry, their Malaysian food is on the dot. They make GREAT nasi goreng kampung and Mee Goreng. The mee goreng is not soggy and overly soaked with its gravy. Interior is pretty spacious so you can comfortably dine in. Delivery and take out is prompt. Will be back!

The food here is legit. I’ve traveled to Malaysia and Singapore and have had my share of Malaysian dishes. I tried the Assam Laksa which was a nice, fishy(in a good way) broth and rice noodles – perfect for a chilly night. The flavor was excellent, but the soup was very salty, so I did not finish it. The service here is excellent. I came here for a small birthday dinner with the friends. Two of us were more than 30 minutes late, but they seated us anyway(the place was empty at 6PM; there was a wait by 7:30PM). My friends purchased a cake(from an outside bakery) and the waiters immediately stored the cake in their fridge. When it was time for cake, they removed the cake from the box, lit the candle, and cheesily sang Happy Birthday to me.

Chicken curry’s got a new face in town. And her name is Nasi Lemak. I came for a large group dinner the other night(of which Rasa was very accommodating, especially when our group miscommunicated and accidentally made two separate reservations). Diving right into the food, the Nasi Lemak was quite the treat. Plated with each component of the dish separated from each other, it created a beautiful conglomerate of colors all surrounding a big mound of coconut rice. I ate it the same way I eat a burrito bowl, trying to get different elements in each forkful without disrupting the overall image. Some people at the table went the other direction and tossed everything together. Every element served a purpose on that plate, and I enjoyed every bite. The rice was cooked perfectly and had enough coconut flavor without being too rich. The curry chicken was not overcooked and was more of a delicate and milky curry flavor, although I’m pretty sure it didn’t contain any milk. The cucumbers, egg, and shrimp chips were all fun elements to play with. The one piece that I didn’t fully understand were the peanuts and sardines in chili sauce. I loved eating the fish and nuts, but there was so much sauce, it felt like it was more than just a marinade and needed to be incorporated into the rest of the dish. It was so thick though that I had a hard time doing that and I couldn’t help but leave it on the side. Service and quality put Rasa at the top of my list next time I’m in the mood for Indonesian. Yummers!

Though we had reservation, we had to wait to be seated for some time. But Camie Lai made us excellent Mango cosmos, Thai Rum Punch. one must try them. Tried Bengali IPA for the first time here, that was good too. One must try their mouth watering ‘spicy’ soft shell crab, Crispy Dumpling Fritters, Shrimp Wonton and of course Massaman Curry with shrimp. They add 16% and above gratuity to the bill for a group of 5 or more.

We visited NY from California and after 2 days with pizza, kebabs and shawarma, we need something Singapore/Malaysian food. We Unilocal and found Rasa. We took the hope off and on buses to Washington park and walk to the restaurant. We called just to make sure they are open after Christmas. We ordered Laksa, nasi goreng and nasi lemak. The Penang Laksa was authentic according to my wife and enough spices and fish sauce to bring the perfect flavor. Nasi Goreng is just perfect for me with sambal and fried egg asian style(over easy). Nasi lemak has the right coconut milk for flavoring and aroma. All meat are halal here and dishes are authentic as you can get. Service is excellent and I will be back next time during my business trip to NY.

Finally decided to give it another try and had a great time. The interior is roomy and comfortable and modern. The location is awesome and great parking at night. Food was solid but could have been less greasy and had a little more spice and flavor. The chicken satay was delicious. The roti canai curry is excellent but they use frozen rotis anyone can buy for pennies then charge you $ 7. Mee goreng was delicious. Had the indonesian bbq which could have been amazing but just feel short on flavor.

Easily amongst the best Malaysian food I’ve had in the States. I’m from Malaysia and it is so refreshing to not just get true authentic food for a change(because Malaysian food is the best), but feel the passion and creativity the owners put into the food. I’ve never had Nasi kerabu before, so it made all the difference when I ordered it that the lady beamed and explained in details why she put it on the menu, which part of Malaysia the food was from and the ingredients that made it special. Definitely made me appreciate my food more!(It was delicious)

I saw the blue pea rice and was so fascinated that I had to come here. Ordered the Nasi Kerabu which had blue pea rice with fried chicken. Good although it was $ 16…the rice doesn’t taste that much different so I wouldn’t pay that much to order it again. My friend ordered the Penang Assam Laksa. It was fine. And my other friend ordered some chicken dish in a spicy sauce. Good but small portions.

The Quick: Flavorful ‘fusion food’, great service, and(most importantly) inexpensive good Saki! The Details: We were weary to try Rasa as their menu features everything except the kitchen sink. Luckily, Unilocal persuaded us to try. Everything we tried was delicious, and we were able to enjoy a few of our favorite cuisines. The fried chili chicken, green curry, and rasa tapas were a delight. Worth a visit! The Damage: An entrée each, appetizer to split, and 2 large saki came to $ 32 each after a 20% tip and tax.

A group of co-workers and I came here for lunch, and we were guided in our ordering choices by an Indonesian co-worker who helped us choose a variety of noodle and curry dishes, all of which were very well received by the group. We also used the Unilocal check-in special for a dessert to share. By the end of our meal, we were all stuffed, and it was a pretty decently priced meal, as well, as far as NYC restaurant prices go. The highlight of coming here, though, was the gracious hosts. We happened to be in on a slow day, so the owner chatted with us a bit throughout our meal, personally checked in on us to see how we were liking our food, and was generally very attentive to our dining experience.

Loved it! We went on a groupon and enjoyed our meal at Rasa very much. We had the mango salad(they ran out of the beef sushi) and the fried calamari for appetizers. The salad was fresh and straight forward– flavor wise and the calamari was fantastic. The batter was light and fluffy, the feel was soft, yet crunchy. Very fine flavors, not your average bar fried calamari! Our entrees were the shrimps with onions, peppers, okra and eggplant –Very tasty!, and the beef in coconut milk and ginger/garlic sauce. Slowed cooked and homie, the beef was amazing! Desserts consisted of a tapioca pudding with coconut/caramel sauce and a mango rice pudding. I liked that both were served warmed. Interesting desserts but nothing to die for or go for second. The stars of the meal were for sure the calamari and the entrees! The staff was very kind and welcoming as well. Will definitely return or order special for lunch!

I think this place will become my go to for Malaysian outside of Chinatown. Definitely get the Malaysian dishes and skip the Thai and Japanese. Cucur Budak — They seem to have a large selection of Malaysian snack foods to act as appetizers. We chose the Cucur Budak. It was a fried chewy sweet potato fritter stuffed with shrimp sambal and coconut flakes. The filling was somewhat skimpy, but super tasty. They only give you four pieces per order. It should be a whole basket. Naski Lemak — One of the dishes I always order at Malaysian restaurants. The chicken curry was so-so and also small portioned. I loved the coconut rice though. It was salty and very coconuty. Often you go to places where the rice has very little coconut flavor. This was not the case. They give you a lot more rice than chicken curry, but together with the ikan bilis(anchovies, sambal, peanuts), boiled egg, and pickled vegetables, the whole dish was pretty nicely portioned. We also ordered a lychee sangria to share with the table, which was pretty much all syrup and no alcohol. They might have even used the syrup from the canned lychee haha. They are pretty busy on Friday nights, but still no wait. The service was good, but the lighting is so dim.

Rasa means«taste» in the Malay language, and the food here is bursting with it! The chef/owner Camie is also the most gracious host you’ll ever get, and makes every dining experience feel like home, I came here in February so they had a special Chinese New Year menu, featuring the Prosperity Salad Toss commonly practiced in South East Asia to symbolize good fortune for the new year. It is also a very delicious appetizer! Besides the salad, I ordered the small bites combo, and the curry laksa. I was also fortunate enough to sample a special dessert Camie had made for the festive season. Having grown up in Malaysia, I can attest to the authenticity of Rasa’s dishes. Thank you Camie, for the wonderful Malaysian Hospitality!
