I have been a Pure Barre fan for about two years now and have been to this studio many times. It is in a convenient location and the studio itself is in a very quiet area of the building that its in. During a recent visit to class, my instructor was enthusiastic and really energetic. She offered modifications when I had questions about the newer exercises and didn’t hesitate to help when I needed. I will come back again and take more classes here!

This was my first time to the UWS Pure Barre studio and I had a fantastic time. I took a class with Meghan and she was very energetic(yet still patient) throughout the whole class. Holey moley the core section left me feeling like jelly — which was awesome! The studio is set up so that the bathroom and cubbies are in the back, through the actual workout room. As far I as I could tell, there were no showers(which I believe is true for all PB studios). One pro tip for newbies to this studio. The barre spans the entire room, basically. This means that you may find yourself in a situation where your back is directly to the instructor(i.e. it might be difficult to pick up on any cues or position changes). If you’re completely new, I would ask the instructor where she plans on standing and orient yourself on that side during the barre portion of class.

I arrived at 12:01 for a 12pm class and was not allowed in, the woman at the front desk stated that that was their policy for liability reasons. This is a pretty ridiculous policy especially in NYC, where no one can control the subways. I have never heard of a place where if you are 1min late you cannot enter the workout class. It’s a work out class, not a meeting with the pope or even a play!!! I was meeting a friend in the class so I ended up just having to wait around for an hour while the class finished. Guess it gave me time to write this review…

I love Pure Barre and especially this new location. Margo, the owner, is as sweet as could be and genuinely cares about her clients. Everyone(from the receptionist to the instructors) takes the time to ask and learn your name, which goes a long way in my book(for my job, I try a ton of fitness studios on the reg, and I rarely see them take that extra step). I think my favorite instructor is probably Catherine – there’s something about her energy that’s motivating in a totally friendly(read: not annoying) way, and I find her classes to be more challenging than some others. But I’ve never had an instructor I didn’t like and wouldn’t go back to. I love Pure Barre, just wish I could afford to be a regular member! I’ve never left a class feeling anything short of awesome.

LOVED this pure barre studio. The instructors are enthusiastic and make a concerted effort to learn everyone’s names. Maureen is an amazing instructor! So energetic and reinforcing. The studio itself is clean and kept up well. The front desk people are very nice. There are cubbies in the back for your stiff and a bathroom that also has deodorant spray, hair spray, and tampons should you need them. I just wish this studio would have more hours during the afternoons. They go from a 12PM class to a 5:15PM class. There should be at least 2 more options between those times. A 1PM or 1:30PM, a 3PM or 3:30PM class would be great! Love this studio!

I have been to many Pure Barre studios in different cities and this is definitely one of the cleanest and friendliest. The instructors make a huge effort learn each client’s name and also take time to explain key movements to first timers prior to class. I would recommend this studio to anyone who wants a great barre workout, especially those new to barre classes!

I have not tried other Pure Barre studios, but I found the attitude at this one strangely hostile. At the end of my first class, I asked whether it would be possible for the instructor to demonstrate the moves in addition to announcing them. I was flatly told«No. Pure Barre is verbal, not visual.» I explained that several of us in the class were new and that some of the verbal instructions were hard for us to follow. Again I got the same response, in a very dismissive tone of voice. I don’t see why it should be a problem for the instructor to take a moment to demonstrate the moves, especially since he made almost no effort to do any one-on-one correction or adjustrment.
