Everything about this experience was good, but not great, which I feel like embodies a 3-star review(maybe more like 3.5 if I’m being generous, since the food was good). Would I come back? Perhaps, but I wouldn’t be rushing back in the doors. As some reviewers have mentioned before, the so-so experience started right when I walked in the door. Put my name in and was told it would be about a 10 minute wait, but they couldn’t seat my group until everyone was there. About 10 minutes later, my whole group is there, but no sign of getting called any time soon. We stood in the miniscule little«waiting» area, and I put that in quotes because it’s really just the doorway, with about four other groups, all of whom seemed as confused and misled about the wait time as we were. 45 minutes later, we finally got seated, but not before lots of annoyed comments from the staff about how all of us could wait outside if we wanted(it was January… I don’t think we should have been punished for not wanting to be out in the cold). To be fair, it is a tiny restaurant, so I can see why the wait is so long. But if they were just upfront about it, people would be a lot less annoyed, and could better decide whether waiting was the right option. The experience definitely improved once we sat down. Service was very quick and pleasant, and the food was very good(although they forgot one of the sides that came with our meal). The price is also very good for the amount/quality of food, which was almost enough to make up for the unpleasant beginning. But I have to say, nothing was exceptional, and it’s a pretty tight space, so squeezing in/out of our table, and even finding room for coats and bags, was all a little tough. While good, I can imagine finding equally good fried chicken elsewhere, and I don’t know if it was worth the 45-minute wait and vague discomfort throughout the whole experience.

First impression upon walking in, this place is unorganized. The place is packed and all I’m trying to figure out is how to put my name on the list. There’s a guy behind the counter with a hat that says«Fuck it» which really sums up their approach to handling the crowd of people trying to spend their money here. This guy acknowledges no one and makes no attempt to figure out who’s been helped and who is just standing in the packed space adding to the hazardous crowding. FINALLY after having to ask quite loudly«how do I put my name on the list» the guy acknowledges my existence. He asks how large is my party, writes my name down and says nothing. No time estimate, NOTHING. I ask how long and he says about 30 mins. After 40 mins had passed and my name wasn’t getting any closer to being called I just placed a take out order. The Food: I got the chicken and waffles. The chicken was pretty good. It wasn’t as warm as it should have been and it’s not as good as the chicken I had the first time I went to the BK location but it wasn’t bad. The waffle sucked! First of all it was cold! Secondly I’m pretty sure they don’t make these waffles here, I saw them placing the waffles in an oven to heat them up. No waffle iron in sight. The waffle was too dense, it tasted like wheat bread. Not good at all. Overall my meal was very disappointing. Pies and Thighs gets 2 stars. The chicken is better than your average chicken spot although it’s not great. That’s the only redeeming value. The service sucks, the waffle sucks and my food was cold. I’m done with this brand. Like Jay Z said on Take Over: «you had a spark when ya started but now ya just garbage».

I really love the location in Williamsburg, so I couldn’t wait to try the location in LES. Needless to say, I won’t be coming back. I had the Fried Chicken Box, Mac n Cheese, Cheese Grits, and Bourbon Pecan Pie.(In my defense, it was a long day and I was in dire need of to be overloaded with carbs…) I was so disappointed. The chicken was really greasy and literally dripping with oil. The mac n cheese was mediocre, it needed seasoning and more cheese. The grits were pretty good. But the pecan pie had to be the most disappointing, the pie crust was burnt and tasted strange, almost a meat like flavor. I didn’t enjoy the food here, maybe it’d better if I’d ate in. But honestly, I won’t be giving it another shot.

The food is decent enough but the guys running this place have no idea how to handle patrons. Originally, they told me it would be a half hour wait for four. An hour and fifteen minutes after hearing a lot of their whining and unsympathetic excuses, we were finally seated. And during the wait, they told us we were a hazard for blocking the entrance and needed to wait outside. It was 34 degrees. I didn’t budge. Maybe if you didn’t lie to your customers about insane wait times, some of them would leave and you wouldn’t have a crowded entrance area. If you’re really itching to try this place, maybe check out the donuts to go. The chicken biscuit is delicious but probably not enough to fill you up, especially with how long you’ll likely be waiting. Oh, and be sure to check out Banksy’s Donald Trump poop mural around the corner on Orchard.

I got the chicken and waffles and it lacked seasoning. Was a bit bland and the waffle was doughy. I hear the donuts are good and folks rave about the pie. But since my thigh was just meh, I didn’t venture into the sweets.

Hmm, I guess some people just happened to have terrible experiences. I had heard about this place from friends, but never really cared to come by or find out where it was. One day, I passed by the establishment, and considering how close it is to me, I told my boyfriend about it and we finally came to try it out. And we have been consistently going back. A lot. We have credit card statements to show for it(so yes, they accept credit card). And possibly the weight gain to show for it too, sadly. We come here so often that one particular server remembers us! We definitely feel special because she always has our Regenade ready for us, and pretty much has my order down(except when I change it up on her, haha!). We kind of just make ourselves at home, which is what the place feels like — kinda home-y. Anyway, I typically get my chicken box with two thighs and a drumstick with mac and cheese. Yes, you can ask your server for the specific pieces that you want(we didn’t know that the first two times we ate here, but found out through overhearing other customers ordering). The mac and cheese, which is served with some tangy hot sauce(kind of like the ones from the Chinese take out restaurants that come with chicken wings), is delicious. I would normally never think to mix the two, but hey, it works and I love it. More recently, I’ve opted to just order the pieces on their own(just one thigh and one drumstick, because I’ve noticed I don’t ever finish the last thigh or even the biscuit that it comes with), and then a side if I want. My boyfriend is probably the more venturous one, having tried the chicken fried steak, chicken sammy, chicken biscuit, catfish box, and probably some other menu items that I am forgetting. He usually ordered the sausage gravy side, but more recently, he’s been switching that out for the seasonal kale salad or the brussel sprouts salad(with an appropriate up charge of course). Both salads taste great, and we’re happy that we can switch out for these slightly«healthier» options. It’s also good to note that their chicken are raised humanely, and the cows are grass-fed. I mean, you come to Pies N Thighs for the chicken, I would assume, so of course everything else might not be something to rave about(i.e. catfish box, big salad, etc). For dessert, Key Lime Pie is not always on the menu, so the first time I had it, I was hoping that it would remain on the menu, but it didn’t — at least not until it made a re-appearance recently(yes, I ordered it). I love this pie and will gladly shell out the $ 5 menu price for it. We’ve also tried the Peanut Butter Pie, which is also good, but pretty rich; just a heads up for those who can’t really take richness of chocolate(you’re missing out). I’m hoping the Coconut Macaroon comes back… the one night we tried to order it, they sold out! Nooooo. And now it’s just not on the menu anymore :( I also remember two times when we first started coming here, a server had asked if we wanted any dessert, but we weren’t exactly up for it at the time, having been so full, but he gave us a donut to go, on the house. We appreciated that, since we got the opportunity to *try* the donuts. They are pretty good… but truthfully I’m not too much of a donut fan. I think one of the only negatives is that service does kind of differ depending on who’s on the schedule for the day — no big deal though, we just don’t go on the days when we’ve experienced bad service. That, and we also don’t like the oil stench that sticks to our clothes after having sat inside during our meal. I don’t know how you’d get rid of that though… we’ll see if this can be improved in the future :)

Yeah!!! Pies N Thighs is awesome! I came by the other night with my friend we were both getting tipsy and ordered a double shot of whiskey. We were seated in the frontish area, and proceeded to drink while we considered our order. The restaurant is super cute with seating in the back and along the sides where the food is cooked behind a counter. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and my buddy ordered the Chicken and Waffles. Both amazingly delicious! The Chicken Fried Steak was delicious — and the white gravy, salty enough but not overpowering the flavor of the steak. The Steak was super tender and flavorful as well! Usually chicken fried steak is a cheap cut of steak, but it didn’t feel like it! We got pretty drunk as we were leaving but yeah… this place is great!

My fiancé and I went to Pies-n-Thighs during brunch. I ordered the Chicken and Waffles. The fried chicken was really good! The apple butter with cranberries was also good. I thought the waffles were ok. I personally like soft waffles. Their waffles were on the harder side– more like Egos. but higher quality of course. Because of this, I wish I had ordered the 3 piece chicken. My fiancé got the fish and grits. I had a few bites of his, and it was also really good! I’m not a huge fan of grits, but I did like theirs. I also tried one of their donuts(the old fashion cake donut). It was good — nothing spectacular. I wish it was warm/hot. The service was ok. Friendly but not very attentive. I would go back — especially for the fried chicken!

I had high expectations for this place, but it was rather disappointing. We ordered the chicken box with a side of grits and chicken biscuit. The 3 piece chicken had very good breading, but it was COLD!!! I guess they might have trouble making the chicken biscuit, but cold fried chicken is unacceptable!!! Also the inside part of the thigh was raw and bloody. The chicken biscuit was good, but nothing to write home about. The chicken biscuit at nearby Cheeky is 10x better. The décor is cute and casual. We also ordered a ginger honey tea, which was very good.

Long wait? Check. No waiting area? Check. Mediocre service? Check. Hipster Haven? Check. Marginally overpriced with no lunch specials? Check. Received only breast pieces in my chicken basket? Check.(And wtf?) Yes, that’s how good the chicken here truly is. Worth all of the frustration for the 15 minutes of fun that ensues when you’re eating it… likely some of the best in lower Manhattan. While their sweet treats didn’t impress me much, I begrudgingly respect the hipster’s love for the fingerlickin’ fantastic fried chicken at Pies-n-Thighs.

This is for one donut only. But what a donut it was. I usually like to taste test with a plain cake donut and saw a nice one covered in cinnamon sugar but when the very nice guy at the counter mentioned orange clove, I couldn’t resist. It was huge, with the required crunch outside but soft inside, good orange flavor. Def. not overly clovey but good all around for $ 3. I still need to eat a proper meal at PnT but the donut is definitely worth a trip.

I think the hype has definitely died down since they opened considering we didn’t really wait that long on a weekend day during brunch hours. The space is small, even though I heard it’s much bigger than the Brooklyn location. The food was good, but it definitely wasn’t that memorable. I ordered the chicken and waffles and they allow you to choose what parts of the meat you want, which is great, since i prefer dark meat when it comes to fried chicken. My friends ordered the chicken biscuit and the hippie banjo and they both enjoyed their meals. The service wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t really that warm and welcoming either. What annoyed me though was that I heard the kitchen notify the server that the dish that my friend originally ordered was out, yet the server walked back and forth aimlessly for about a good 10mins before notifying our table. When a kitchen says that something is out, the first thing a server should do is to check which tables had ordered it and notify them so they can order something else so that it doesn’t delay the rest of the table’s food. Regardless, I’m glad I tried it, just probably won’t be back unless I was in the area and really craving fried chicken or wanted to try one of their doughnuts.

Pies n Thighs is cranking out their same delicious menu as Williamsburg in the LES. Despite their semi off-the-beaten-path location, they’re definitely a popular spot, so get here early if you can. We showed up for brunch around 11am and were seated right away, but by the time we left at 12:30pm, there was already a wait going and the place was packed. It’s also pretty small(yet still bigger than their Willyb location), so be prepared to get cozy with your neighbors. I ordered the special scramble of the week($ 10), with cheese, mushrooms, and spinach, a side of grits, and a flaky biscuit. It was a huge portion of comfort food at its finest, and while a very basic meal, extremely delicious. My friends ordered the chicken and waffles and I was lucky enough to steal a bite; the buckwheat waffles were very hearty and absolutely perfect with the sweetness of butter and apples on top. Heads up to anyone who’s gluten free: Pies n Thighs does offer a few items, but you should definitely call ahead and confirm. One of our GF friends ended up with a bowl of just banana cream(from the pie) for brunch, and although she was perfectly happy, that probably won’t be enough for most.

not a fried chicken fan but definitely a southern food fan so I passed on the chicken and opted for the chicken pot pie. I was pleasantly surprised that the salad that came with the pie was so delicious and simple. the dressing is a tad spicy but enjoyable. I normally hate radishes but was able to eat a few of the ones in the salad. on the other hand, I was utterly confused by the chicken pot pie. apologies for my ignorance, but I was under the impression that chicken pot PIE is normally a pie??¿¿!¡! instead, i watched as the chef scooped out the fully cooked ingredients from inside a dish, dump it into a small crème brûlée like bowl and top it off with a thin croissant?¿!¡¿? don’t get me wrong, it was good and everything, but I couldn’t help but wonder how long those things have been sitting there before I ordered it. maybe I should’ve gotten the fried chicken instead. at least that was cooked on the spot.

OVERALL: 2.5STARS I came here because I was looking for a good fry chicken place for my friend as she loves fry chicken and I had high expectations of this place but this place just didn’t cut it. I was very disappointed. PROS: — BOURBONPECANPIE — I can definitely taste the bourbon in the pecan pie and loved the candied pecans. Yum! 4STAR THEOKAY: — CHICKENBISCUIT $ 7.5 — the biscuit was super hard like it was made a couple of days ago and reheated again. the chicken was a little dry but the hot sauce definitely helped. FYI — the chicken is way longer than the biscuit. 3STAR CON: — CHICKENANDWAFFLES $ 13 — [Two pieces of fried chicken and two buckwheat waffles topped with cinnamon butter & baked apples] I didn’t really like the buckwheat waffles as it was kind of dry and meh tasting. Sure there is butter and maple syrup but there’s just something about the waffles that I didn’t like — maybe it was the dry and rough texture of the waffles. As for the chicken pieces, you get one drumstick and one chicken breast. The chicken pieces were very dry. The drumstick was marginally better and the crispy skin helped. I feel like pop-eyes or KFC’s fry chicken was actually better. 2STAR — WATER — the glass they provided the water with was dirty and not cleaned well. It had a sticky feeling to the glass and my friend even noticed some tiny white specks. I don’t think I’ll be coming back here again. TL;DR — Just get their Pies!

I came here on a Saturday night with a couple of girlfriends to grab a quick dinner. Since it was a little earlier than the typical New York dinner(6pm), we had no problem getting a table. Arriving first, I grabbed a seat at the diner-style bar and ordered the IPA. Since we weren’t starving after all eating big lunches, we decided to share the Chicken Biscuit sandwich and Fried Chicken platter with mac n’ cheese side. The hot and honey combination of the sandwich was delicious, and we ended up mixing our own to eat with our fried chicken platter. Though it was a little disappointing that the sandwich meat was a thinly pounded piece of breast instead of a thicker juicy piece. The platter was a standard order; of course it was better than fast food takeout chicken, but it was a little under par for quality restaurant chicken. It was nice and tender but not as flavorful as we have had at other places. The mac was extremely creamy and cooked perfectly al dente, but also could have used a little more salt and seasoning. Pairing it with hot sauce did the trick though. Under the impression that the butternut squash & blue cheese salad would use the squash as the base vegetable, I ordered the plain green salad for some dark leafy greens. Nope. Both came with greens, but they had totally different flavors so I wasn’t upset. As a pleasant surprise, the green salad arrived with some crisp radishes, which I loved. We all agreed that the vinaigrette on this one was better than the squash & blue cheese salad. The blue cheese and candied pecans on the squash salad were a delightful combination of sweet, salty, smooth, and crunchy.

Comfy and cozy brunch spot in the Chinatown /LES border. Most of the seats are for 2 people so the wait is typically short 10 minutes max. Longer wait for bigger groups. The donuts are delicious and baked fresh. The Hippy Banjo is a great sandwich with a poached egg and fresh greens — it was a tasty combination of chilled greens and toast. My chicken and waffles were great but the chicken wasn’t hot — almost room temperature(star off for that) but it was still well seasoned, crispy and juicy. Goes great with the hot sauce on the table.

Like any mature adult, I giggle a little inside whenever«Pies n’ Thighs» is mentioned. Naming conventions aside, I’d long avoided visiting the restaurant given my indifference towards Southern cuisine. I can recall only one place where I was impressed with the fried chicken(and that was one I would deem legitimately spicy, even by my own standards), so it shouldn’t come as much surprise that my initial visit was on the basis of convenience. What started as a closet-sized eatery under the Williamsburg Bridge in 2006 is now one of the best-known restaurants in New York City, popularized particularly for their weekend brunch. Their second location in Manhattan’s Lower East Side was opened just this year, so when a few friends and I were in the vicinity, we opted to visit for dinner. On a warm summer evening, only a handful of other guests were present, so we had our choice of seating and were quickly given dinner menus and glasses of(lukewarm) water. I’ll have to note that I did *not* get the signature fried chicken here, although my friend did and was quite satisfied with his order, but I will vouch for the Hush Puppies, which were fried to-order, consisting of a crisp crust and a piping hot cornmeal-buttermilk interior. The tartar sauce that it’s topped with is delicious as well, especially with a squeeze of lemon for some added acidity. Perhaps it’s not fair for me to pass judgement on Pies n’ Thighs on the basis of their Burger, but it’s as synonymous a plate as you’ll get at any average restaurant in the city. A simple ground beef patty slightly overcooked to a passable medium was served with the requisite toppings(onion, lettuce, tomato, pickles) and sandwiched between two lightly grilled buns. A handful of fries on the side, and you have a satisfactory entrée — although some might opt for the Fried Chicken Plate(three pieces of fried chicken with a buttermilk biscuit and side). I do regret that none of us opted to go for dessert, but I hear their donuts and, of course, pies are notably better than their savory plates. Regardless, should you wish to skip the wait at their Williamsburg location on weekend afternoons, the Lower East Side location is a better bet, especially during off-peak hours. Bring a substantial appetite or a group of friends, however; you’ll definitely want to try a variety of dishes to find what suits your tastebuds.

Super convenient location a short walk from Chinatown! It wasn’t crowded at all at 1pm on a Wednesday. The staff is super chill and friendly but they can be a bit on the slow since there were only 2 people both waiting tables and running the register. The food also took a while to come. The interior is flooded with natural light and the décor is very homey and clean. If you could translate comfort food into a nice restaurant interior, it would be Pies n’ Thighs. I went for the fried chicken box, which comes with three pieces of chicken(wing, drumstick, breast), a side, and a biscuit. The chicken is about as juicy and ungreasy as fried chicken can get! The batter is crispy and light and the meat is tender. Try it with with buffalo hot sauce or the honey! The honey is surprisingly good with the chicken in trivial amounts. For my side, I chose the mac and cheese and it was rich and tasty but it could’ve been creamier. The biscuit, on the other hand, was a disappointment because while it was very buttery, it was cold and dry and the top was kind of hard. The meal was very, very filling — I’m writing this review five hours later and I’m still full. All in all, it was a positive experience with good food and I’ll be back. I definitely recommend their chicken!

I came on a Friday night and I had high expectations for this place before I came here because of all the hype surrounded. Little did I know, I would be paying $ 27 a person for mediocre fried chicken and Mac and cheese that didn’t have any taste. This Pies and Thighs is a small venue on the Lower East Side next to a funeral home. It does however, have kind of a «homie» feel to it. The servers are generally very courteous, but they did take a long time to cater to our needs. My friend and I waited about 10 minutes before our waitress was ready to take our orders. The menu was extremely had to read and it made me feel dizzy while reading it(See attached picture). This is probably because of the cheap printer that was used to print this menu. We started off with the fried green tomatoes(first item on the menu). The appetizer itself wasn’t bad. A bit heavy on the batter though. The ranch sauce that accompanied the fried green tomatoes definitely added a little zing to it. As for entrees, I settled for the 3 piece fried chicken with a side of Mac and cheese and a biscuit. The chicken itself was ehhh, the Mac and cheese was flavorless and the biscuit was airy. My friend ordered the catfish meal with with cole slaw and cornbread. There was only 1 long piece of catfish and the whole dish was also ehh in my opinion. As for dessert, we both settled for the apple pie as they did not have the peach cobbler pie when we requested it. The pie itself was also mediocre and it tasted extremely sour. Our server gave us the dessert menu, and when we were really to order, she was just chilling behind the counter. Would I be coming back? No.
