Who needs fancy, schmancy Bed Bath and Beyond when you are a stone’s throw from Paragaon Dept Store?! You don’t! Having just purchased my new place a few blocks away, I needed random items for cleaning and organizing that I didn’t bring with me initially. This place had all the necessaries: paint brushes, paint rollers and trays, toilet brush, caulk, shelf liners, dishwasher liquid, scissors, flip flops, curtains, batteries, wigs(lots of these), coffee machine, grandma cart — you name it! I mainly got the paint and cleaning stuff. I opted not to buy the purple wig in these last few visits.… This place is neat and very well organized. The prices are great. If you pay by card, don’t be confused when you have to walk to the first register to have your card swiped(a la 1989). After payment approval, they hand you your bags. If you walk in with bags, be prepared to check it at the front where you get a bag tag to reclaim it when you leave(- reminders of living on Fordham Rd in the 90s).

You can buy anything to everything here. But unless it is a product of an well established brand expect it to break within a day or two. otherwise its a great place to look around. They have everything from furnitures, carpets to needles and bobby pins. And the staff sure does know their way around.

Bottom line: Paragon is awesome. Sure, the building itself is old and pretty gross. And, yes, the staff can be incredibly rude, slow, and unhelpful. But, it’s at the end of my block(yay for me!), and it sells EVERYTHING. Since I moved here four years ago, I have gotten everything from wine glasses to cleaning supplies, aluminum foil to a vacuum cleaner, dish towels to an extension cord, frying pan to a backpack, bed pillows to deodorant, shower curtains to a massive high-powered fan, a full-length mirror to toys for my office holiday gift drive. I am a black woman with natural hair. Paragon has one of the most extensive selections of «ethnic» hair products that I’ve ever seen outside of a beauty supply store. Just read the price tags carefully because some of the products they sell are randomly expensive(i.e., almost $ 16 for Shea Moisture products, which are $ 9.99 at Target) while others are randomly cheap(i.e., $ 6 for Cantu products, which are $ 9.99 at Target). A couple weird quirks — while they accept credit/debit, there’s an obvious preference for cash payment. There’s only one person in the store that rings up purchases for credit. They have these old cash registers, so someone will ring you up and then print out a receipt. Then they take the receipt down to the end of the long counter and this one woman runs your total through the credit card machine. If you use debit, they give you the little machine to enter your PIN. If you use credit, they will ask for ID, which is annoying, but I get it. Also, you have to «check» any other bags you have at the door, which is also annoying. But again, I get it. Anyway, this store has been a true lifesaver. Go there. Whatever you need, they’ve got it.

When I needed a window fan in the middle of winter, Paragon had it, season be damned! This place carries it all: shampoo, mops, bedding, undies, window screens, dishes and TONS of other stuff! The staff always know where things are, and it’s cheapcheapcheap! I am so happy this store is in my neighborhood!

Looking for one stop shopping? Well Paragon is the place for you. These department stores have everything you need if you live in NYC. I suggest doing your holiday shopping here since you will most defiantly find something for everyone. While most of their items are ordinary and you can find them at most of these type stores they also carry some rather unique items like a toilet seat with dollar bills on it. Like I said, Paragon has something for everyone. This particular store in divided into two levels so you need to really remain focused it you don’t want to be up and down the escalator a thousand times. At times this can be challenging since they offer so many great items. The prices are competitive and you can often find good deals in the clearance sections. This Paragon location gets packed on the weekends so go early or late if you do not want to be waiting on long lines at check out. Overall a good place for your one stop shopping needs.

If you ever have to do a scavenger hunt, just go here. They sell: a toilet seat with dollar bills encased inside African sculpture(made in china) board games cards cleaning supplies clothesline electronics large and small flip flops garbage cans glassware hardware supplies hats, gloves and scarves lamps linens mirrors office and small home furnishings party decorations pots, pans and baking sheets puzzles school supplies seasonal candy and decorations shower curtains and bathroom décor skivvies, socks and other necessary clothing soap and bath products stuffed animals those things you wrap change in window dressings and the list goes on Two floors of wandering awaits. It’s all too easy to walk in and walk out an hour later dazed and carrying a bag full of $ 40 worth of stuff you did/did not need. It’s fan-freaking-tastic. It’s my happy place. And it’s a block away from Popeye’s.

Paragon has large variety and is the best store in those couple of blocks. However, while the price is reasonable, the quality leaves a lot to be desired. I usually order online but use paragon only when need something urgently or is too expensive online. Another option is to take the #2 train to pelham pkwy and shop at the better White plains road market place.

I’m the first to review? Really? This place is awesome. They sell just about everything at reasonable prices. Also a lot of the people working there are West Indian(like yours truly), so they’re awesome(again like yours truly).
