One the best Thai food places in NY! The fries are amazing! I couldn’t stop eating them. The pad Thai is delicious! Watching them cook all the food is a pleasant bonus.

If Ngam were defined by its amazingly creative and tasty crispy pad thai, it would be a great restaurant. At $ 18 the dish is a bit steep, but they do give you a free beer with your entrée when you check in on Unilocal.Overall the food is innovative – crispy mushroom spring rolls, piquantly seasoned wings, etc. However, it’s annoying that after dropping $ 72 for two including tax and tip I can still be hungry and my wife doesn’t even eat a lot and she felt a bit neglected fullness-wise. The service is a bit spotty; it can take several tries to get a server to understand your issue with a dish that needs returning to the kitchen. Maybe because the head chef was on the show Iron Chef and has her own cooking class? Who knows.

Really good food all way around. A bit noisy and crowded, but if you go there with a few friends for a quick dinner together it’s great. The Pad See Ewe was very good, the Chiang Mai Fries are great to share, and try the Grilled Surf and Turf Platter as appetizer.

The old school pad thai is very flavorful, even a little bit salty in the end:)The chicken wing is another surprise. I wish they had my favorite Tom Yum soup.

Awesome Thai food in the East Village! The restaurant itself is absolutely tiny so I would highly recommend getting a reservation. The menu has a ton of options and variety so everybody will be pleased. I ordered the thai red curry with vegetables and was extremely satisfied. The curry was rich and flavorful and the vegetables were cooked perfectly. I highly recommend this spot!

Ngam is a fantastic place to get Thai food. I loved the meal I had at Ngam(traditional pad thai) so much that I had my parents-in-law buy me a cooking class from Chef Hong Thaimee for Christmas. It was so much fun! Chef Hong is a great teacher– she is funny, accessible, and informative. We even cooked in the restaurant’s kitchen, which was terrifying but exciting. Go to Ngam for the food, but if you like Thai cooking, you should also sign up for the cooking classes!

Being from Long Island I’ve gotten tied of the generic Thai and Asian fair. Ngam is definitely different and it’s amazing. Everyone that I have brought here has loved it as well. LOVELOVELOVE the lobster dumplings. The grilled calamari appetizer is amazing too!

Great ambience, tasty Thai food. We were group of four, had our reservation as it was Sunday would advise make your reservation prior hand or else a lot of waiting time, we had ordered appetizer and main course. The service was really fast and the food was served hot. 2 of us was vegetarian and 2 non vegetarian, I being a vegetarian would say it serves good vegetarian. The food was really delicious and I enjoyed my dinner.

Came here tonight and it was packed. We were a party of 4 so the hostess told me to leave my number and she’d call when our table was ready(~1 hour). I recommend making reservations no matter what day of the week since the area around Union is always busy. 40 minutes later, she called me but mistook the table to be only for 2 people, so we had to wait again. The final call came around 8:10, so in total we waited only ~50 minutes. We never tried this place before and wanted to explore different Thai food from the regular Spice or Somtum Der(though I highly recommend the latter for Thai food lovers; located in Alphabet City), so the wait was worth it. Thai iced tea here is $ 5, a little more expensive than usual, but it comes in a cute little beer glass and tastes so sweet. We started with the appetizer of the sweet potato fries. The sauces that came with them were amazing; I especially liked the sour sauce more than the sweet. Moving on to entrees, I gave the Thai burger a try and was half disappointed, half satisfied. The rest of my friends tried the papaya pad thai(so different from the normal one but spicy), the authentic pad thai, and the drunken man noodles. I had my burger well done so it took a little longer than expected and the burger itself was so stuffed it was hard to eat. I ended up eating half of it with one side of the bun first then switched over to the other. The burger also comes with a side of the same appetizer fries. Delicious nonetheless. Can’t really say how the other dishes tasted, of course. But the overall meal was good and worth the price. Left here overall happy despite the long wait and loud noise from our neighbors :)

Ate here for the first time the other night– Big fan of the Thai food. We decided to sit at the bar area so that we can watch the chefs in action and it certainly is impressive how the kitchen is operated. We tried some various samplings of standard Thai fare– such as a $ 14 bowl of Tom Ka soup, and a sub par pad Thai noodles. After that we decided not to order anymore because it just wasn’t good. If you sit at the bar you’ll notice that there is a person expediting the orders by putting everything in a bowl to be cooked in a wok. Unfortunately everything is pre-cooked the chicken shrimp and beef instead of it being freshly made it’s sitting there and all dried out. There are many wonderful thai restaurants in the city, unfortunately this is not one of them.

Lively ambiance, great affordable food and service. I would recommend this restaurant to anybody who is looking for a nice Thai place. We arrived at 18:00 pm; the restaurant was already crowded; it is an indication how popular it is. Their customers were diverse, from student couples/groups to dine-alone artist types/corporate workers. It seems that they have a high takeout demand, too. To-go boxes were piled up at the entrance. We had regular Pat Thai noodle, green curry, jasmine rice, spring rolls and green papaya salad. Everything tasted just great(not spicy at all, even children would be able to eat anything), except for the papaya salad that is not seasoned in the way I am used to(it tasted like Worcester sauce to me). The price is amazing when I think about the quality. A true treasure trove. I will be back.

The wait wasn’t bad, came here Christmas eve for a quick dinner with my sister. We waited around 10 minutes to be seated. The staff here is busy, I get that, but our server in particular, seemed to be forgetful. After asking three times for iced water(he even brought over our thai iced teas after we asked for the water and placed our orders) I wasn’t happy with the constant flagging down servers for something so simple like water. Heck even our appetizers came out before we could get our water.(Hence the two stars, instead of a three) The appetizer we got were Chiang Mai fries, which was served very nicely, and on a plate that resembles a tree trunk. The fries are basically fried vegetables, but the sauces that came with it made this a delicious plate. My sister ordered the original authentic pad thai and I went with the chef’s special, crispy papaya pad thai. The original pad thai was all right, the crispy papaya pad thai was something else. Although I’m usually a big advocate for fried food, I just couldn’t finish that dish. It’s interesting, the texture with the sauce, but in the end, it wasn’t for me. The thai iced tea was spectacular though.

This review is for their brunch offering — not their cooking school, although I did witness a class in session and that looked pretty fun. I was drawn to the $ 25 unlimited brunch drinks deal, where you choose a main course and get free flow of a number of Asian-inspired brunch cocktails, like peach bellinis and lychee mimosas and spicy Bloody Marys. I ordered the burger. It was a very photogenic burger, a one and a half inch thick burger piled high on a sesame bun on a slice of aged wood, but it was also impossible to eat in a bite because of how unwieldy it was. The strips of raw zucchini on the burger adds crunch in theory, but in reality just slipped between your teeth and was impossible to bite through. The burger meat was also strangely uniform and more akin to the texture of a highly processed meatball or meatloaf. It’s too bad that the bread was also stale, because the flavors of the spiced meat and the mayo spread was assertive and unique, but faltered under the weird textures. I did enjoy the sweet potato chips though. They were sliced thinly and coated in a crispy fried batter and were really delicious. They’re also really slow on refilling your drinks, so I’m not sure this is the best place to do drunk brunch.

This is probably my new favorite thai place. Thai food with a bit of innovation, and a great atmosphere. So all you need to remember is the papaya pad thai. This creative take on the classic pad thai dish is really awesome. And if you’re looking for something more decadent try the crispy papaya pad thai, if it’s available! That was really awesome. Full food breakdown below. Chang mai fries — these were kind of like tempura vegetables, but not quite as fried. Definitely delicious, great sauces. «Peek Gai Tod» brother chai’s chicken wings — these were delicious chicken wings with a crispy soy glaze. Similar to Korean chicken wings. Probably my favorite of the appetizers I have tried here. «Somtum» authentic clay mortar papaya salad — a good papaya salad. Here’s a little strategic tip: If you are planning on also getting a papaya pad thai, you might be overdosing on green papaya if you also get this dish as well. Maybe not. Red curry — good, classic red curry. I would recommend skipping this unless you are really in the mood for red curry. Papaya pad thai — awesome. They’ve mastered the sauce of papaya salad here, and it just seems like all pad thai should use green papaya after trying this. I recommend this dish a lot. Crispy papaya pad thai special — also awesome. Very similar to the papaya pad thai, except that the papaya«noodles» are crispy and really soak in the sauce. One of my all time favorite thai dishes ever. Great food, with a fun and casual atmosphere.

The best Thai in NYC with great twists on old favorites. Fries are delicious and come with a little less guilt too. Pad Thai is a lot lighter than some places around the east village… Pad Se Ew is my all time favorite. That char grilled flavor is addictive and real steak is another example of their high quality food. The wings are also great if you love wings… We ordered a special and my fiancé didn’t like it — the waiter changed his order to Pad Thai free of charge. You don’t get that service very often.

I keep coming back to this place because it has stayed my favorite Thai restaurant in the city for a few years now! To start, regardless if you’re coming here with a date or with friends, the dining-in atmosphere is quite romantic, with artistic & witty quotes written on the walls. The wait might be long especially if you’re coming in past 7PM with a larger group but it’s definitely worth it. I also recommend just sitting & eating at the bar if you’re just quickly looking to sit down with some good food :) The food comes in good-sized portions and I love how whenever I order an entrée with vegetables, it actually comes with fresh veggies like brussels sprouts, broccoli, string beans, etc. They usually don’t go too heavy on the sauces like I know most other Thai places have a tendency of doing. I didn’t know until recently that checking in on Unilocal gets you a free beer/wine but that’s definitely an extra bonus as well!

I am glad to hear from the management team at Ngam regarding the«auto-gratuity», and they have already taken action and corrected it. I will be back to give this place another try.

I don’t know why I didn’t discover this place sooner! I’m ALWAYS on the hunt for Thai food, especially since I’ve moved around a lot in the past few years. I guess I just prematurely settled for mediocrity. We arrived at the restaurant on Sunday night around 6:30PM without a reservation and were told that there was about a 25 minute wait. Not too bad, so we decided to wait it out. In reality though, we only waited about 10 – 15 minutes, which was perfect because I was starving! I really loved the vibe of the restaurant: the exposed brick walls, the free hanging light bulbs, the marquee letters, and the huge Julia Child quote on the wall. We ended up dining at the communal table. which was cool — although I think I would have preferred the intimacy of a private table. The menu was sparse compared to typical Thai restaurants, but there were quite a few interesting takes on traditional Thai dishes. The options are a little pricier than normal — for example, the regular pad thai at most Thai restaurants are between $ 9 – 10 a pop, but here the old school pad thai starts at $ 12 and goes up to $ 18 for the crispy pad thai! The food is super flavorful, and portions are pretty generous as well. For those faint of heart, beware of the chili powder! I didn’t realize there was chili powder sprinkled on top of the pad thai and didn’t mix it in well enough. so I got a whole bunch in my first mouthful. =\ CUETEARSANDSNIFFLES for the rest of the meal… super attractive, I know. Right now, they have a Unilocal deal where you can get a free alcoholic beverage(a select list of wines/beers) with an entrée if you check in on Unilocal.Definitely an extra perk! I will be back soon, and hopefully one day to take a cooking class. :)

Went here before a concert at webster hall. There’s a decent amount of happy hour cocktails and beer. We were waiting for two more friends to come so ordered the surf and turf appetizer for two from the happy hour menu. It was very savory and delicious. We all enjoyed trying out different things with three different sauces. The food came quick and the service was prompt as well. When we were looking at the entrée menu, we realized some had a fusion twist to it or some things i have never seen in other thai restaurants. I tried the green curry with tofu which was tasty and just right amount of food. My bf got the thai burger which unique and delicious! Papaya pad thai was devoured as well! Like the atmosphere and the food presentation as well. Really enjoyed it.
