Nice place for Healthy breakfast options close to union square. Breakfast wrap #4 and English muffin sandwich #6 were tasty. Friendly staff!

Come here every once in a while to get away from my normal lunch spots near the office(this is a little further away from Astor Place) Sandwiches and soups are excellent. Have been here a handful of times and I have never been disappointed in the food. I recently ordered the grilled chicken wrap, which includes avocado, black beans, cheese and pico de gallo. They serve it with sour cream and salsa verde on the side. The Verde is awesome! The coffee and teas also look delicious, though I have yet to try one. The seating arrangements are good, there are a few communal picnic-esque tables that are good for groups. However, be warned that this place gets busy during peak lunch-hours, so could be difficult to sit with a group larger than 3 or 4. Only complaint really is sometimes it can take a little while to get your sandwich, if you order a hot meal. Waited about 10 minutes for mine today, albeit the place was very busy at the time. I am a fan! Will definitely be back.

I caught a thief in the restaurant who was stealing my wallet from my bag. I called everyone’s attention in the restaurant and but no one was helping me. Terrible experience. If you want customers, please make sure they are safe at your place.

This café is designed as part coffee shop, part middle school cafeteria. You can choose to drink or eat at the bar seats by the windows, or share a communal table in the main section of the shop. There are a few smaller tables towards the back. For a place where you can grab a coffee and sit for a few minutes while waiting for your next appointment, this place does the job. It’s not the type of cute local coffee shop where you can lounge and read a book. News Bar gets very loud especially when customers drop in for lunch. Definitely pay a visit if you are looking for a hassle free, casual lunch spot(either by yourself or with company). But keep in mind, seating can be limited!

For a little local café, the quality of the sandwiches is AMAZING. Never disappointed. Good selection of baked goods too. Great muffins, made in-house. My only beef with this place is the lids for their coffee ALWAYS leak.(Worse problems to have in life…)

Stopped by here late Saturday afternoon for a pick-me-up. I got an iced hazelnut latte and a s’mores brownie. A couple of the edges of the brownie were a little tough which made it difficult to cut into with a fork. I’m not sure if that’s because it had been left out a while(after all, I did get there a little later in the day) or if that’s just how it cooked. Once I got past that though, it was amazing. The latte was made well and not overly sweet like Starbucks lattes but just the right amount. It’s a good-size space with lots of seating and staff are friendly. They have a pretty extensive food menu, as well, so I’d like to come back and try them for breakfast or lunch. Good option if you’re looking for a place to chill with some good coffee and treats!

Why does a simple café deserve 5 stars? Here’s why… — A wall of magazines you can read while you nosh and leave behind for free or purchase to take home(the unique lure) — Everything bagels with seeds on top AND bottom(anything else is blasphemy) — Veggie cream cheese with big chunks of veggies and fully integrated veggie flavor — Gluten free & whole food items — Fresh sandwiches, hot soups — Cold Brew & a sweet creamy cold brew called Ca Phe Da — if you’re unsure of something, you may even get a free sample to entice you to decide quicker ;)

The hot chocolate was great. The only thing that happen is that a Spanish Lady charged me 50 cents and that I ask for whipped cream. She was staring at me and had a nasty attude. As a customer I should not be treated that way. I told her boss and she was in trouble. I’m was happy. People need to learn there lesson.

I gave them another try and was disappointed AGAIN. My coffee was luke warm /cold(there is no excuse for a coffee shop to serve luke warm coffee) and tasted like the bottom of the barrel. The news is just a few magazines, no newspapers. Still NO wifi. The coffee is not really cheap for the dive that this is.

Nothing to rave or complain about at News Bar. I had an Americano and a crescent. Both were fine. Service was good. Paid the usual $ 7. Not much else to say!

Great place for a Cup of coffee and some Breakfast. I like their Grilled Vegetable Sandwich. Also try Croissant, Open Avocado Sandwich, English Muffin. Since I am a vegetarian it’s a good place for me with a lot of options. The ambience is great and there’s always a line in the morning.

One way to figure out if any place is worth a try is to see the line during morning hours. During my wait in line I’ve observed the atmosphere. There are plenty regulars & plenty seating for everyone. The menu has so much to offer as well as their ready made sandwiches, pastries, & donuts from ‘dough’. Each staff is fast & efficient. I suggest making time to stay in and enjoy your meal there. I turned plenty heads with my hot chocolate. No wifi, but they have a valid point. This is the type of place you go to to talk with whom you’re with & to enjoy the food you’re eating. This place is classic. The kind of place you can take your out-of-town friend to, to show how New Yorkers do breakfast.

Came here by chance and loved everything about this place. My fried egg sandwich with avocado and tomatoes on English muffin was perfect, oatmeal was really great, carrot juice delicious flavor. Did not plan on getting a latte or dessert, but it looked so good and the energy cookie and ice latte surpassed expectations. If I didn’t have an appointment, I would have been thrilled to sit there reading magazines for hours.

Really a «3.5» rating in my book. I enjoy coming here mornings I’m not in a rush to sit and enjoy coffee and an egg & cheese on English muffin. I think they do breakfast sandwiches wonderfully– I’ve yet to have a bad experience. The coffee is a hit or a miss to be honest. Don’t bother unless it’s a cappuccino or another«made» drink(regular coffee is just disgusting). I enjoy the chill atmosphere and will be returning occasionally, but if I can make the trek I much prefer Breads Bakery a few blocks up– much better coffee and breakfast selection!

Definitely fell in love with this adorable little café. The fact that they have a wide variety of gluten-free baked goods was definitely a plus, but the selling factor for me was the newspapers and magazines available for reading(hence the name). Great space. Loved the décor. It’s on the way to work for me so, needless to say, I will return.

Nothing about this place is good, and this is based on several attempts to give them an opportunity to impress me, or at least make me feel okay about spending more than I would at Starbucks for some coffee. Service is horrible, no one ever seems to want to be at work and it’s almost as if they deliberately make you wait a long time to get your food. Which by the way is tasteless and SUPER overpriced. I once ordered a spinach, egg and goat cheese wrap and literally received a nickel-sized dollop of goat cheese for $ 9. WTF. Drinks are either too strong or too weak. Worst part is they lack any sort of organization, so half the time you are wondering who already ordered, who’s waiting to order, and who’s just standing around to get their cup of coffee, all the while, getting pushed around and stepped on because there’s this random table in the middle of the entryway which NO one every seems to want to sit at. The person who charges you also tries to take orders at the same time from other customers, but will leave you hanging mid sentence as soon as someone needs to pay. Coffee, tea, bagels and pastries aren’t rocket science last time I checked.

My kind of coffeeshop! Chill, cozy, comfortable, and reasonably-priced(I feel like I should’ve kept the alliteration going). The coffee selection is small and standard but nonetheless pretty good, and the pastries are fresh and delicious and displayed incredibly temptingly. Shoutouts to the chocolate-cherry rugelach(very flaky although not very cherry) and the chocolate biscotti(goes perfectly with just black coffee). I love the mix of long picnic-style tables and smaller seats in the back, as well as the offering of various magazines and newspapers along the wall. Huge plus: there are outlets all along the seats in the back! They were admittedly what drew me and my dying phone in in the first place. It’s quite dark inside, but overall a downright wonderful coffeeshop to bring your computer to and get some work done or just chill in while charging your phone and nomming on delicious baked goods and coffee.

*** Standard coffee and tea selections, Quick service, Limited seating *** I seem to always come here when it is packed. The seating is very limited. Be expected to feel a bit squished. Their coffee and tea selections are standard – nothing that special about them. I haven’t ventured towards their food items since it doesn’t look appealing and it seems pricey. This is a place to visit if you’re in a hurry but need to grab a quick drink.

Cute sandwich shop with old school music from the jazz era. They have a wall of magazines for a collection and benches like elementary style to grub on. I love the classic feel of this place, but beware it could get quite busy during lunch time! Just for taste: 1. Dulce de leche donut: Not bad, but not the best I have tasted. It was flavorful, but not as soft and fluffy as I would have wanted. It was a huge! Fit the size of a tea cup plate fully, in other words about the size of your hand. 2. Roasted turkey panini with salad The salad was very fresh and the panini cooked right. Definitely enough to fill you up for a nice lunch meal, but for the heavy eaters, you may need to add a little something something to your meal to top you off.
