And here I thought I knew all of New York City’s landmark event venues… I just had the pleasure of attending a 50th birthday party at the New York Academy of Medicine(or NYAM as those who knew were calling it), and it was quite spectacular. The event was held in the Academy’s still functioning library which features a bookshelf lined ballroom with soaring ceilings and views of Central Park. The book loan desk was even turned into the bar! All in all, a wonderful party with excellent food in a very unique venue. I hope I have an opportunity to return here in the near future.

I recently went to this institution for an all day training. I’m a fan of older structures such as the Museum of Natural History. Between the beautiful moldings, the marble and old style posters promoting healthy behavior I really felt transported to another time. The elevators even still use human operators! I was definitely charmed by this place. The lecture hall we were in was Room 21 and it was beautiful. High ceilings, nice lighting and beautiful drawings on the wall made this a very pleasant environment to learn in. The staff was beyond courteous and friendly as well. It is also important to note that the NYAM is one of the few institutions that opens its library to the general public instead of just students or medical professionals. It is by appointment only, but still a great opportunity for those interested in doing research in a beautiful environment.

When there a couple of weekends ago for a reproductive health event. Great venue! The room was spacious and just the right size for the event. Plus, the food was delicious and options for everyone. All the staff was super friendly, including the bartenders. It’s fairly close to a subway stop too(6). The outside looks a tad bit shabby, but the inside is very nice. I will definitely go to an event there again in the future.
