Got the Beef and Broccoli and an egg roll. The broccoli and rice were fresh. The beef… if you can call it that. I wasn’t able to eat any of it. It was chewy and gelatinous and I couldn’t swallow the one piece I tried. And for 7.50! Not again. Sad because the NYU grad students love Chinese food :(

So despite of average ratings we decided to try chinese food from this restaurant on a snowy day. I ordered chicken and shrimp with garlic Sauce. It was pretty good compared to the average chinese food available for lunch in downtown nyc. I asked for extra spicy sauce on side but I didn’t need it. The chicken was battered n fried n shrimp were also good. And it was fresh and steaming hot! A plus for delivery on a snow day Overall good food!

Cheap, hole in the wall Chinese takeout food. The food was a bit greasy but it is filling and decent, edible quality. Besides, it is hard to find such cheap Chinese food in this neighborhood. Their lunch special(a meal with can of soda) is less than $ 7, and they even offer the same food after 4pm at a dinner special price for less than $ 8.

Thought I’d come here because it wasn’t too far from where I was and I do love chinese food, obsessed actually haha. So anyways, I came in and it was getting crowded but what do you expect, it’s the 12pm lunch rush. Its such a tiny cramped space and there are dozens of people coming in to the point a rude girl sat down at my table without asking as normal people do. Anyways, I got my usual of chicken and broccoli and I dont understand how it’s possible to make flavorless chinese food. Hell at home I make better imitation chinese food than this place. They need to step their game up.

Incredibly cheap chinese food for the area. I was on my usual quest for cheap soups, and stumbled across this place. I got a quart of egg drop soup for $ 3.20.

Very cheap considering the area and the food is tasty too. The place doesn’t look fancy but I just get my food and eat in my office. They have a lot of choices for the buffet and I have tried most of them and they are actually good for the price they charge. If u don’t want buffet and just want to order short orders they have a separate menu for that too.

food was a bit blah on my taste. i ordered a lunch special which was a good deal but i wouldn’t come back again. i was just grabbing a quick bite with a coworker before we headed to work. hers looked more yummy than mine — i should’ve just picked the buffet style food. but as i said, i won’t be coming back.

Tried it once, and I will comment on the buffet. There is almost no option for Chinese food in this part of Tribeca, presumably because we are so close to Chinatown, so I made it a point to try this. The buffet here was chiefly populated with noodle and rice dishes, none of them terribly appealing. The meal was very cheap, and there were lots of bargain hunters, so I took it back to the office. I’ll stick with Chinatown, even though it’s a walk.

If you want disgusting food that will most likely leave you in the bathroom for hours, go ahead. I ordered lo mein one night, which was greasy, thick, and not good t all, and left me in the bathroom for hours. I just ordered lobster cantonese style, not only was it not cantonese style but it tasted appalling. Shame on me. Don’t make my mistake.

I am a dude of limited means. I don’t have two of nothing. I don’t think shoestring budget even fits the bill, so working in Tribeca makes it real rough to find something filling and cheap. Praise the Lord Baby Jesus for New China Red. I always do the buffet with the free Dr. Pepper and I usually end up spending $ 7 or less. The food is greasier than a dick in KY Jelly, but so damn GOOD! Best of all they take credit cards and only have a $ 5 minimum, unlike these other places that have $ 10 minimums. Do I look like I can eat $ 10 worth of food to you? ANDYOUBETTERSAYNO!

I love hole-in-the-wall Chinese food. Most days, I am pretty sick of dropping $ 20+ on one meal. New China Red offers a break from this very special tyranny. The food is tasty. That’s truly all I require.

A new Chinese restaurant on the Seamless Web roster? In TriBeCa? I definitely had to give it a go. It might be in TriBeCa, but the prices rival comparable places in Chinatown. My curry chicken lunch special rang in at $ 5.70, and my girlfriend’s sliced chicken lunch special was a mere one dollar more, and that was only because she insisted on all white meat. Lunch specials include a choice of soup, a choice of rice, and pleasingly enough, a choice of spice level though that matters little it would seem in how the end product is prepared. The curry chicken was really good. I definitely have to caveat that though. This is not refined Chinese food with delicate flavors, a balance of healthy ingredients, and great use of color. This is more like hole-in-the-wall Chinese food done on the cheap, served up greasy and heavy. If you don’t mind the lack of sophistication and just want some comfort food, then it’s good. Really though, the curry had a great flavor, and I liked how the chicken was done. The pork fried rice was just okay, same for the hot and sour soup which seemed ordinary and not particularly memorable. One complaint though is that they definitely use a lot of sliced onions in this dish, and not as much actual chicken. I would rather pay a couple dollars more and have a better balance. My girlfriend’s lunch was nothing special by comparison. So which dishes you choose will also make a difference. I will definitely keep them in the rotation though, as I think they have some promise. 3.25 stars

I had been here once before b/c working in the Financial District/Tribeca after 5pm is hard to find anything other than fancy restaurants. The egg drop soup tasted like they put soap in it. I don’t know about you but there is nothing worse than soapy eggs! I should have went back but I was busy and ended up eating my General Tso’s which tasted like fried plastic balls with fat. Totally gross! Never going back and you shouldn’t either.

I like how the other reviewer used the term«The Lower West Side.» I think it’s going to become a thing. They have pretty decent, greasy, standard Chinese takeout here. You know how there are those chinese restaurants that are so nasty they make you wish you’d never been born? This is not one of those places. If you are seeking Chinese takeout around the area, you will feel content after ordering the chicken with broccoli from here. However, do not order the chicken noodle soup. It’s chicken grease with noodles and something that did not, I repeat, did not taste like chicken.

New China Red is your run of the mill Chinese Rest. in lower Tribeca. Quick and fast, take out or delivery this place doesn’t have time to mess around. Whenever I’m in here, they’re always busy! A good resort w/free delivery along the Lower West Side.
