There’s no news anywhere but the phone is down and everything seems to suggest Nanni is closed for good. What’s going on? Anyone have details, that would be a real shame. What a great traditional Italian joint with the best pink sauce.

Nanni is closed. There is a for rent sign on the door and the phone number is disconnected. This was one of our favorite restaurants in the city. Does anyone have any update /details about what happened? Or if they relocated

The most authentic Italian food you’ll find in the city or nj. It’s got that classic gangster movie feel and it’s ALWAYS packed and it’s a bit pricey but you know what, for the best food I’ve ever had [Italian or otherwise] I couldn’t care less. Seasonal dishes, the menu is constantly changing according to what’s in season. The portions are generous and the service is on point. Reminds me of visiting my family in Italy

Went with my date after seeing tree at Rockefeller Center. She had an online coupon from . good for $ 50 of food for $ 25. Nice. She shows the server the coupon on her phone. He looks at it as if either he was totally confused or never seen a cell phone before. Takes the phone to show manager. Manager comes over and says he knows nothing about this. What? After a few seconds of awkward pause, seemingly reluctant, he accepts it. I had the Tortellini Montecati and my date had the Fetuccini Bolognese. Entrees were brought to the table in less than 15 minutes. Both very good quality. Portions are very much single serving. We both ate very slow. Prices are bit high for single serving but it is a small quaint New York City Italian restaurant. It’s to be expected. As it was late, we both wanted only coffee after the meal. My decaf took 20 minutes to come to the table and only after inquiring twice. My date’s cup of regular coffee came 10 minutes after that, which took an additional inquiry. The bill comes and it’s around $ 52. They didn’t discount the $ 25 coupon. Manager said you have to spend $ 50 pre tax or coupon is not valid. Ok… no problem. Would have been nice if he said that as he presented the check to us. Wasn’t trying to get over so we suggested to just wrap a piece of cheesecake to go, add it to the bill, readjust it, call it a night. Brings back the bill… full price, no discount. After another awkward exchange, the bill is readjusted, I pay it… trying to ignore the fact they charged us $ 13 for a piece(barely a slice) of cheesecake that was maybe an inch and a quarter at its widest. Very uncomfortable experience, and to top it off as we left, the manager said in a jovial way, but still a tad condescending«This is the first time we saw that coupon… and the last!» So I responded… in a jovial way«This is my first and last time too. Good night» Hope he got the point. The idea of these coupons are to get people to come to your restaurant, and enjoy your experience in the hopes that you will spread the word to others and come back yourself. This experience will make me recommend this restaurant to no one and I won’t go back.

Very old school Italian restaurant. Definitely not for a quick, casual bite. Things aren’t super formal, but there are the formalities of fine dining in place. The service is other-worldly. Very classic, like out of a film. You can tell that I’m not a fancy-pants person, right? Foodwise, things were quite good. My friend was able to eat more things because he eats meat and he said things were superb. My rigatoni was perfectly cooked and the sauce was just spot on. I doubt anything comes out of the kitchen that isn’t perfect. It’s an interesting place tucked away, like many things in NYC. Just be ready to know your dinner manners before you go.

This was a great restaurant. The food was unbelievable. Couple that with the old school/old world authenticity, this is a place we will need to visit again during our trip.

We were impressed by the ambience right off the bat. And sadly that is the end of the list of pros. Our waiter was dumb. The $ 45 sirloin was dry and overcooked.

Nanni’s is a classic Italian NYC restaurant. From the moment you walk in, you know it! Because the seating area is fairly small and cramped, the noise level is a little high; if you are familiar with what many Italian households in NY are like, this place will seem right at home! When you get into your seat, get ready to look at a very diverse and thorough menu. If you need glasses to read, make sure you bring them or you will be completely dependent upon the staff for suggestions. If that is the case, you can expect to have plenty of help from a thick Italian-accented host. I had the linguini with white clam sauce and a delicious Sauvignon Blanc wine. There is no doubt that the quality of the food is very, very good. I like a dish with a hearty portion of clams and this place definitely has them. While I understand that we are in NYC and thus everything is going to cost a lot more than they would in Des Moines IA, I still find this place to be just a bit on the high side. Its for this reason only that I give it 3 stars in my rating. If you are traveling on the company nickel, this place would provide you the authentic Italian NY experience you are seeking.

Because of the noise level in the main dining room make sure you are seated in the upper level. There are only 2 – 3 tables there. Also the wine list lacks variety.

The food was okay but, as this is as city fortunate to have many Italian restaurants serving a similar menu, it is nothing one cannot find in many other Italian restaurants. The service was disappointingly inattentive. The attitude from everyone we interacted with(from coat-check to maitre’d to busboy to waiter) was a combination of brusque and indifferent; is it asking too much to be greeted at a restaurant as if they are actually pleased you have chosen to dine there or to have a waiter stop by the table once, after placing food before you, and ask«how is everything?» We ordered Caesar Salads that took forever to arrive and were non-nondescript when finally placed in front of us. The main courses were adequate, but no better(in some cases worse) than those one would find ordering entrees off a menu at a decent pizza place. Finding someone to do something as basic as refill water glasses was maddeningly, almost comedically frustrating; thank goodness the people at the next table saw us waving our arms to flag down a busboy and informed him that«these people have been trying to get your attention and get some water.» The tables are so close to one another and the space in parts of this small restaurant is so cramped that one sits«back-to-back»(chairs quite literally bumping into one another) with someone at the next table and it is difficult to simply walk to or from one’s table. There are too many Italian restaurants in New York City doing all the big things and the little things the right way at a similar price point for me to consider rewarding this restaurant with my patronage again.

It’s hard to find authentic Italian in Midtown. If that’s what you’re looking for, look no further. Walked in. smiling hostess sat us immediately. Sat down. the service was overly attentive(not in a bad way, very welcoming and accommodating). We weren’t sure what wine to get but our waiter knew exactly what would match our dishes. The food is a little pricy but it’s New York, so that’s expected. And they give you free bruschetta, so you can’t complain too much. While lots of the restaurants are upscale, chains or bars/pubs in Midtown, this place is absolutely a diamond in the rough.

In midtown theres really not too many good Italian food options that are authentic. The owners are Italian. The restaurant itself is small and kind of hidden. The food was ok. I ordered the snapper which is my favorite. The fish was good, light, seasoned well but that was really it. You have to order sides as the main course isn’t enough. The dining area wasn’t packed only a few tables were occupied on a Wednesday night. I probably wont rush back but its worth a second visit.

It is clean. Looks better than the other rotten old italian joints in midtown. It is classic italian. The best is that it looks cleaner. The staff is very kind. The chef is the boss. The pasta very good. For lunch in case of pasta craving in midtown.

I have dined here for years and have had the opportunity to try a diverse round of selections off of the menu as well as specials. Amazing food and great service from Italian waiters. Try the Nanni sauce, it’s probably the best sauce that I’ve had. You cannot go wrong. Enjoy!

The attentive service was memorable. The servers have been here for years. We were a group of four and were seated immediately at 5:30 pm. We started with artichoke with sausage, asparagus vinaigrette and mozzarella with tomato. Artichoke was tender and sausage tasty but the others were average. Then we had angel hair with very flavorful Nanni sauce. Highly recommended! The linguine with clams was next. Very good as well but a little salty. Lastly we had sea bass and lemon veal. Veal needed more seasoning but was tender. Sea bass was slightly citrusy and good but a little over cooked. Next time I would stick with pasta. Portions are very generous and they will split the pastas for you. Great dining option before a Broadway show — about a 20 min walk.

Throwback to 50 years ago. This is what New York used to be like in the 1970s. The waiters are all still from there and the menu hasn’t really changed since. Waiters will tell you what dish you’ll have today and the special wine that they have for you. If you behave nice, you’ll get a digestive on the house. Go

Ordinary food with horrible service — Avoid if you are a tourist and your best Italian restaurant experience has been at the Olive Garden, you might think you hit authentic Italian, but you will be horrified by the price and the shit service Ate there last night with a party of 7. Waited 20 minutes for a menu(we had to flag down the bus boy to give it to us) and more then 45 minutes for our order to be taken. The waiter told that they we were going to serve us a pasta course and made it seem like it was part of the meal(we wanted to order an assortment of apps from the menu). We ditched the individual apps and instead ate what they brought out — angel hair and ravioli in a bland pink sauce. Needless to say, we were surprised when we got hit with $ 105 on the bill for them. Although we were seated before several other tables, we watched as our waiter ignored us and took their orders. Three of us ordered the Ossobuco and two others ordered a different veal dish. 15 minutes later we were informed by the waiter that they had run out of both. It took 1.5 hours for our entrée’s to finally arrive I ended up with their version of Scaloppine Di Pollo Alla Pizzaiola. By the menu description the sauce was supposed to be spicy — it didn’t even come close. Bland sauce that suffered from too much garlic. Honestly, there are hundreds of good Italian restaurants in NYC. The food here is ordinary at best, everything is ala carte, and the prices are high. $ 19 for a caesar salad! We ordered two $ 50 bottles of wine and got charged $ 70 each for them when the bill came. If you do venture in, make sure you scrutinize your check. Skip it, your wallet and stomach will thank you

Group of 4 came here for dinner on a weekday… It is a very old school Italian restaurant. I thought the ambiance was nice. We had their asparagus and their caprese for appetizers and I had their Nanni’s sauce on thin pasta… I have to say, I was quite disappointed. I read very good reviews about their sauce but it was so bland for me. I did not know what I was tasting to be honest. The appetizers were all just OK. Definitely been to a lot better Italian restaurants in the city.
