What a sad story. I called several locksmiths for an estimate to replace my bottom cylinder. Locksmith One(let’s call him Sam) quoted me $ 125. Locksmith Two quoted me $ 90. Montigru quoted me $ 35 for coming to see the job, and $ 20 and up depending on the kind of lock. My lock is the simplest kind, so I decided to take a chance on Montigru. They said they’d have a guy at my house in a half hour. A few minutes later, I got a call from a locksmith who sounded very much like Locksmith One(who has a very particular, thick accent). «This it the locksmith,» he said. «Sam?» I asked. «Yes,» he said. «Oh, I’m sorry,» I told him. «I got a better estimate.» However, Montigru never arrived. When I called back, they told me their guy had told them I’d gotten a better estimate. I explained the mistake. They said they’d send their guy out again. Again, he never arrived. When I called back a third time, they said they actually worked with Sam(not his real name), and that if his estimate was too high, I probably wouldn’t want to pay their fee, either. Really??? You mean Your estimate of $ 35 plus $ 20 and up is really a ploy to charge $ 125? At least Sam was up front. When I said I was going to post this story on Unilocal,Montigru said he would counter with a response saying I’d refused to pay his price. Not the case at all. Let’s see what tale he posts here. Caveat emptor. Buyer, beware. Right now, there’s someone walking around NY with my keys and my address… and I’ve spent three hours waiting for a locksmith who never arrived.
