Montefiore on 233rd has a lot of work to do. The ER here was the worst emergency room experience I’ve ever had. The doctor that finally attended to me after nearly 4 hours of waiting in triage was pleasant, but clearly the facility here was not designed for the level of patient activity that they get. There was a patient admitted to the ERAFTER me with very similar symptoms as me, and he was lavishly attended to, relatively speaking. For some reason though, I literally had to flag down nurses to change my IVs, to do my blood work and even to take my urine sample. There were so many patients that they simply ran out of rooms. Due to this overcrowding, there is no privacy when discussing medical matters with staff(possibly a HIPAA violation). And I noticed a hand washing sink was stopped up with a piece of paper towel(breeding ground for germs) and just general dustiness and poor attention to detail by janitorial staff. Simply said, I only came here because it was the closest ER and due to their lackluster performance, I highly doubt I’ll come back here if I have the chance to go elsewhere.

I wanted to update everyone on the status of my condition, as well as further prove how terrible this hospital is. I finally got my lab results back and let’s just say it’s not good. Once again, the hospital discharged me saying I’m fine when my primary doctor who took the time to further test me found out I have something that’s VERY serious and HIGHLY contagious. That’s first rate medical care for you. Hospitals don’t care about patients, they care about the money they can make from the patients.

Well its hospital. Really whats there to say. My mother works here for the last 15yrs. Therefore whenever I visit I’m often treated well. My lasted check-in was due to my grandma being ill. I must commend them for being doing all necessary exams to make sure she’s ok before discharging her. They kept her for a week. She left with all the medication and information on private doctors & clinics where she can follow up.

This hospital has come along way! And where the major confusion lays is people’s perception of an emergency ! This hospital handle emergencies proficiently and fast! Yes it’s a NYC hospital that means its gonna be busy … When you go there for minor nonsense chances are you’ll wait!!! Tests take time, they don’t just come back in mins! Labs, sonograms, ct! All take time! The staff is nice and try to remain as courteous as humanly possible … Fairly clean… And continuing to try and improve … If you don’t like this place maybe u should seek a hospital in westchester county or out of state!

I’ve been going to this hospital for years –since when it was Our Lady of Mercy-. It was a dump then, and still maintains that status. The only reason I give it 2 stars is because they’ve clean the place up a bit visually, so it has a nicer look. The E.R. will leave you waiting for at least an hour no matter how empty it is. I recently went in, because I didn’t want to drive to my preferred hospital 30 minutes more away. I was the 2nd person sitting in the waiting room, and it still took me over an hour of sitting to be seen. The employees seem to be in their own world, and will give you blank looks until you say something to them. Not very welcoming one bit. After being called in, you are not directed to go anywhere specifically. I looked at the security guard and told him they called my name, so he just pointed at a door gesturing me to walk through. After walking through the door I ended up in a pediatric type of waiting area with multiple beds, and one lady sitting at the station looking at a computer screen with her back facing. She got up, and then just walked away completely ignoring me. I randomly walked into another section looking for someone, and ended up in a area more suited for adults. I walked to the station, and the girls there were in their own world until I said something to grab their attention. One escorted me BACK to the area I was at, and sat me down. More waiting… Finally a physicians assistant called me over and took a look at my injury. He seemed very unsure in his diagnosis ‘small gash over my eye’, and asked me some silly questions that made no sense. I explained that I was hit by an elbow while playing a football game. He asked me if someone else did this to me. After measuring my elbow and trying to bend it toward my eye, I realized it was physically impossible. He then grabbed a doctor to take a look. The doctor told me it could be glued up, and said the P.A. would do it. This made me nervous. The P.A. was very rough in cleaning the wound, basically scraping at it with a gauze. The then proceeded to glue it together improperly and realized he messed up, thus he grabbed another tube of glue. He just glopped it on and let it dry without holding it together apparently. He had no confidence whatsoever. Overall, I would recommend for anyone to go elsewhere is they can help it. Avoid the E.R. here at all costs if you want a fast pleasant experience from REAL doctors.
