It’s so sad the best Indian restaurants in nyc shut down. This place was my go to place for Indian food

This place is the worst at customer service. The main rule of hospitality when it comes to a restaurant is «customer is always right,» well this restaurant has no concept of how to treat a customer. We ordered a chicken biryani for lunch few days ago and the chicken came uncooked. So we decided to give them a call saying that. We were informed that the restaurant is closed until 5PM and they can’t do anything about it until then. Despite that we decided on sending the food back and getting our money back for it but they failed to send their delivery man to pick up the food when their restaurant opened back at 5pm. The next day when we called back to see what happen, they asked us to prove how the chicken is uncooked and argued with us saying we were wrong in not calling them to have the food picked up. Mind you we spent about 15 – 20 minutes on the phone with them. Finally they agreed to send us a new dish of chicken biryani. Hopefully this one comes out right. In hindsight, I will never be ordering food from them ever again.

Ok place but not my favorite as far as my restaurant week selections went. The tandoori chicken appetizer was good. The chicken was cut tenderly and the spicing was perfect. My mint paneer was not what I expected. The paneer itself sort of drowned in the sauce and I was expecting it to be more sauteed. I like the touch of bringing out daal with the meal. The helping was plentiful and it perfectly textured. The ambiance is really nice. I just feel like the food is mediocre for what’s supposed to be an upscale restaurant.

MINTNYC is amazing! The food was great, the ambiance was incredible, and the servers treated you like you were at home. Amazingly, he remembered ALL of our orders without a notepad! He constantly checked up on us, asked us about our meals, and kept the naan flowing :) 2 thumbs up

So please explain to me the following. I ordered at glass of wine at the bar…$ 7.00 plus $.62 tax. So far so good. The total bill was $ 8.00. When I asked for an explanation, I was told that«the system rounds up». I know it’s only $.38, but I feel cheated. I’m guessing the the city of New York will be interested to know about this. One star, only because I can’t give zero stars.

Mint has become my boyfriend and I favorite Indian restaurant in the city. Everything we have ordered there has been absolutely delicious. We have had several issues with wrong orders or drinks, but they are always happy to correct the mistake and take care of us. We usually start with the chicken samosas, very good. The garlic nann is so good! It is hard to stop eating. I love the chicken tikka masala. The portions are a very generous size and we either end up splitting items or having leftovers. The food is all very flavorful and nothing is too spicy. I usually do not order dessert at Indian restaurants, but they have a dessert we love! It is similar to a chocolate lava cake but instead of a chocolate cake exterior, it is a fresh baked chocolate chip cookie! So good! We will definitely be returning!

I will say good food is always the hook for foodies. I love coming back here as it includes some nice cocktails in happy hour and the lamb chops. Few things on menu to give heads up is chicken Malai kebab, shrimp balchao, Tadka dal, Chicken saag, Malai kofta, Gobi manchurian, Goat roganjosh.

I’ve been here a few times, primarily because I work in the area and this is the closest Indian food. The food is great, I love it! The roof has a great view and is great for gatherings or birthdays. The inside of the restaurant however is slightly dirty with bugs flying around. The service is less than mediocre but the food kind of makes up for it. If you’re looking for good Indian food, this is it. But if you’re looking for an amazing experience including amazing customer service, this is not the place.

Really enjoyed this place. The food was very good. I ordered the wild salmon dish and it was very good! The vegetables that accompanied the dish were very tasty. i was really lucky to have people with me that let me taste their dish and theirs were really good too. The place was a bit empty when we got there on a thursday night afterwork, but I enjoyed the privacy. Our servers were very attentive and kept refilling our glasses with water without asking, which was nice attention to detail. The drinks were really good too. Unfortunately we missed happy hour, but definitely will consider coming back when I am around the area!

This review is kind of late, but better late than never. The décor was really nice and welcoming on our way in. We mentioned that we had a Groupon before we ordered our meal, and then faced a barrage of lectures of what the Groupon did not include. The aloo methi tikkis were decent. The chilli chicken was run-of-the-mill, made with a mix of sriracha sauce and ketchup. Mutton rogan josh did not have a satisfactory quantity of meat and the quality of the meat itself was nothing to speak about. Naan and roti was fine. The«highlight» of our evening were the waiters. There was hardly a smile on their faces or any show of courtesy during service. The waiter who served us came off as overconfident and condescending. He never took any notes, and when we expressed concern that he might forget our order, he coolly told us that he didn’t «need notes.» But then, he forgot our mojito order and had to be reminded. Don’t think I’m going back. The city has HUNDREDS of other options.

Got suckered in by a Groupon. For some reason you’re precluded from ordering off of the whole menu, but there were enough choices so we didn’t so much care. Typical Indian fare… not remarkable in any way. Lasooni Gobi(Cauliflower in Tomato Sauce) was mushy and tasted like Ketchup. Samosas were tiny… like small pizza rolls and lacked any real filling. Shrimp in Saffron Curry was quite tasty, if not a bit too rich and creamy. Shrimps were cooked perfectly and were quite large, though the dish for $ 30 only had five shrimps. Service was where things really went poorly. Inattentive and full of attitude. We were very easily put off by the service and found that we had to wave down staff just to get a check at the end of the evening. More than once our waiter asked us a direct question and then immediately turned to interact with either other guests or staff members. The large venue was empty save for three tables, you’d think the service might have been better. We had high hopes but for the location and the price you can do better.

Groupon had a great deal for Mint and my uncle was in town from Poland and wanted to try some Indian cuisine so I thought this would be a great place for him to enjoy a nice ambiance and some great food. I’ve been to many of the Indian restaurants in Midtown East and have never been disappointed in the food so I had high hopes for this place as well but unfortunately I was very very disappointed. When I arrived at Mint, I showed the manager my Groupon deal and I had already written out all the food I wanted to order for the night since we were a large group and I didn’t want to be confused. I had also listed the prices that I found online mainly so i knew to stick to my budget. Automatically he explained to me that the prices I had were not accurate. He said these prices were for delivery only and that I should expect a larger bill. I explained to him that I got the prices off their website for their dine-in menu. He continued to argue with me that the prices were not accurate. The only reason I decided to dine in is because my whole family was already there and I didn’t want to create a scene. I wish I had left because the food that followed was just terrible. When I think Indian food I generally think of bold flavors and fragrant spices, but what i got from Mint is frozen foods that lacked in flavor and desperately needed salt. My whole family ate the variety of dishes and we all agreed they were disappointing. The samosas were clearly frozen and then fried and the pakoras tasted like plastic. The only semi decent items were the palak paneer and the chicken tikka masala although we did have to add our own salt to these dishes. While the food lacked in taste and the manager welcomed me rudely, I must say the service was very nice and the ambiance is pretty. I do not recommend anyone eat here if they have taste buds, but if you are only interested in getting a drink and enjoying a modern Indian ambiance, then this place won’t be so bad.

Mint… All I had heard about before coming was how good and authentic the dishes were here. I love every single Indian restaurant that is located in my home town in Ohio, so I was very excited to have a great Indian meal while on vacation with my girlfriend. First off, we made a reservation it being a Friday night in a very busy location. When we show up there are about 3 other couples dining there no staff in sight for a good 3 minutes. We were ignored by the bartender who just looked blankly, finally someone seats us, after we have to argue about our reservation. They clearly do not have any communication between staff members. Once we are seated we attempt to order a very common dish at EVERY other Indian restaurant that I have been to at least, Chicken Rogan Josh, yet they say it can only come with Goat meat and there is 0 way they would substitute. The entire time we inquired about this the waiter looks at us like we are the dumbest two people on earth he barely says any other words just a quiet«no… no… no…» my girlfriend who is also allergic to nuts politely asked what has nuts in it. The waiter responded«everything.» that is a 100% lie. We order Indian without nuts literally every single time we eat Indian which I can not stress is A LOT! I have never felt more out of place or disrespected than at Mint. Our food comes decently quickly yet my girlfriend who asked for 0 spice, NONE, we emphasized 3 – 5 times before our waiter left us, gets the spiciest meal I’ve had in awhile I’d rate it 4 out of 6 on the scale. My meal was completely bland I ordered the Chicken Saag which I order at every single Indian restaurant that I go to, this was 0 heat, none at all. So we politely ask them to remake her dish, they come out within 2 minutes with a 3 out of 6, still nowhere near a 0. Anyways we sort of grit through our meal, at the end we try to use a coupon for $ 25 off of a $ 50 or more bill. They refused to honor it at all even after persistence. So we pay the full price and storm out. I will NEVER go back there and if you want to be treated well while you are dining I recommend that you stay away as well. Besides the rude waiter, the awkwardness the entire meal, and after ATROCIOUS service they wouldn’t knock a single penny off the price even though we had the aforementioned coupon. I have NEVER not tipped in my life until then. The Naan was amazing… I can’t knock them for that. I felt so out of place and like they would rather have 0 customers at all than be employed or run a business. This place I wouldn’t even have my worst enemies go to I have had better service at 4am at a waffle house. This was terrible I have never written a review on Unilocal which ive used since 2012 either such bad service I hope you won’t go.

My college friend treated me and my other besties here to celebrate our birthdays two days ago. The place was inside a hotel. Low lighting and clean. We ordered each different types of chicken curry for the main dish, two appetizers, drinks, and dessert. My favorite was the Indian ice cream dessert. Very different from what I am use to, but a little overly sweet. The bread appetizer was also very delicious and highly recommended. I didn’t like my chicken marsala curry sauce much, as it was a little too sweet but my two other friend’s dish was better as it was more towards the savory spicy side. The food presentation are nice for curry. Give it a try if you like Indian food. But overall I highly recommend Brick Lane near St. Marks for their lunch AYCE Indian food… if you never been, make sure to check them out.

It’s difficult to have such bad service when you go somewhere for a buffet. However, our waiter was rude last time I came to Mint for lunch with my sister and would not allow me to use my $ 20 Open Table gift certificate even though our tab(lunch for two) came out to more than $ 20. The food was, as always, quite good, and, otherwise, Mint is a great place for lunch in Midtown East. The service needs work though.
Great place for Indian Buffet Lunch. Loved the ambiance, felt like an typical Indian«Restaurant and Bar» back home. The food is as authentic as it get in NYC. Will definitely go back

I had some credit on Groupon, so I thought I would go north in search of Indian food. Based on reviews here, I was expecting Mint to be a bit overpriced, but I figured with a $ 40.00 gets $ 80.00 Groupon, it wouldn’t be too painful. Well as soon as we sit down some guy comes over to explain the Groupon terms, at least at Mint, because I have never experienced anything like this anywhere else with a Groupon. Mint’s rules: you WILL be charged full NYC tax on $ 80.00 regardless how much the actual bill is. You Will be charged 18% gratuity(they call it on the bill a «15% admin» or some other non-sense). So now before eating, I already know my additional out of pocket is going to be about $ 18.00. Feeling like I am going to be nickel-ed and dime-ed to death here. OK, waiter guy comes, and he is nice enough, and really nice, once I let him know we have been to India many times and require the food to be authentic and HOT! He is like, «don’t worry, I am going to make the chef make it hot for you». The appetizers come out and they are great and really spicy. A smallish sized Bhel Poori and a really tasty Lasooni Gobi(a spicy marinade on cauliflower) that truthfully I had never had before anywhere. So we were really up for the entrees, expecting a repeat performance on the taste and hotness levels. What a disappointment the entrees were. An alright Paneer Makhni, they had reduced the creaminess and richness, to our liking, but really skimped on the paneer. I have made paneer, many times, it is one of the least expensive ingredients and easiest to make, so this pissed me off. It had a little fire, but absolutely nothing like the appetizers. On a scale of 1 — 10 of Paneer Makhnis we have eaten, it is a solid«2» — with«10» being the best. The other thing, which is all I could call it, was some very bland mixture of vegetables with a few pieces of eggplant, call Diwani Handi. This was just awful, it’s like an Indian version of home-made baby food — yuck! Tasteless tasteless tasteless. Maybe if there had been some salt on the table? They garnished it with three small strips of ginger, when the ginger should be cooked into it. It needed way more onions and garlic and red and green chilies. Bland horrible thing. Now funny thing, our really friendly waiter comes over a few minutes after we start eating our entrees, asks how everything is, I lie and say«alright», but then add that the food is no way spicy or hot enough. He says he can bring it back to the kitchen and they can add heat to it, we demur. If they wanted to redo the meal, well alright. But I could have just thrown some red hot powder on it too, had I brought it along. And besides half the food was already on our plates. After this the waiter demonstrated his magic powers by becoming the disappearing waiter. To top it off, we asked if they had Chai, we were told yes, and out comes four dollar cups if regular tea, no spices — nothing. Would never have eaten here without the Groupon — it is way overpriced. It is quiet though.

I’ll give Mint a generous four stars because of the food, the music, and the upscale nature of the place. But don’t get it twisted, the service is a bit too odd to reach the monumental five. I’ll preface this by saying that even as a South Asian, I rarely eat out at Indian or Bangladeshi restaurants. As someone who has always been spoiled by delicious and authentic homecooked meals that can never compare to dining out, I never thought it would be worth it. However, Mint certainly changed my mind! Their savory dal, Aloo Gobi Mattar, Bhel Poori(huge!), lamb kebabs and lemon rice were extraordinary. I enjoyed the dal, poori, and aloo dishes the best. Just looking at their menu causes me to salivate now, because I am reminded that I didn’t get to try their samosas or aloo paratha which is stuffed with potatoes. Oh god… But yes, let me not get distracted too easily. The service was weird. First, the place was empty when we arrived. However, they refused to give us a table of four, which I found quite strange knowing how available(literally) all the tables were. Second, the server at one point failed to replace our dirty utensils with new ones. He also seemed to work in slow motion as he removed our plates… I have never seen someone enjoy removing silverware in such a snail-like fashion before. Third, and most frustratingly, the server would come by our table every ten minutes asking if everything was okay… this interrupted the flow of our conversation quite frequently and got annoying after a while. I will say that the reception at the front desk was nice; I was able to charge my phone with no problem and one of the hosts took our photos with no attitude. In a nutshell: upscale place, on the pricey side, the food, in both quality and portion, is certainly worthy of the price, but the service could use some substantial improvement.

I didn’t want to believe the poor reviews of late regarding service but Mint really needs to step up their game. Let me take a deep breath. For effect, you’ll need to read this as one sentence too: I’m not one to jump down throats over having to ask for a menu after being seated for nearly ten minutes or empty water glasses or having to flag down a waiter to take our order after waiting another ten minutes or waiting another ten minutes after our plates were taken away to have to ask for dessert menus or having to ask for the check instead of ordering dessert because their coffee machine was broken and by now we had somewhere better to be… and then waiting another ten minutes before they came with the check, and another ten before they came back with my credit card. It was that kind of experience though. Food, yeah it was pretty good. We were served promptly in the middle of it all. It’s weird but I felt like they gave us more attention when we had plates on our table than when we didn’t — but they were very swift with taking our plates away so that was a very small window of time. Sorry Mint, you earned yourself a 2-star review from me. Something I don’t give out very often. Don’t think I would give it another shot either since there are other Indian options in the area.
