The food is not exceptional good but is good enough for a cheap & fast breakfast. I ordered chicken with noodle soup that came with toast and lemon honey drink for $ 3.75. The establishment is clean compared to a lot of Chinese. Polite service. Overall 2.5

it’s the same company as coluck, but smaller space, looks much nicer. i think the chief is still the same chief. i usually ordered their satay beef soup noodle, pineapple chicken fried rice. sometimes breakfast but it seems oily. i tried the mixed jam(peanut butter & condense milk) toast before, it was good. double skin milk is also good desert! ice red beans is thumbs up

Small restaurant wit limited table space but the foods good. Great place to spot by for a quick bite. Have to try the Chinese pancake it’s to die for, crispy and sweet. And you can add more food in it. Yum just thinking about it.

I can’t say that it was an upgrade from the original restaurant because the space is really small but it’s not to the point that you’ll feel very cramped but the food is not bad. They still have most of the original menu. My favorite is the kimchi and Italian sausage stir fried ramen and their fried calamari. The sandwiches were a big upgrade though. Their bacon and egg sandwich actually have crispy bacon slices and it’s pretty cheap too. Overall it’s still a good place to get some good grub at an affordable price.

I go to Mini Express every with my family. The place is very simple Chinese-Western food, and has been a delight for my family this year. The employees are very nice and always try to make friendly conversation. Breakfast is a must because it is filling(and I’m a 6’3195 pound guy) and also delicious. Many previous reviews complained about small portions, however you shouldn’t be surprised because it is meant to be a café. Other Chinese food stores will offer the same or less food with more expensive prices. This is Chinatown honey, not Heaven. Great food, highly recommend. It’s not Chinese to the extent where Americans might be scared off, but not so Americanized where Chinese/Asians will be disappointed in. Have fun!

Love their simplicity of food. Every dish they make is pretty much consistent. Love their cold drinks. The interior of the restaurant is nice and modern. The atmosphere of the restaurant is a bit cold. Otherwise, Chinese diner food is good. My husband and I love their club sandwich! It’s the best! The service is good and the people are friendly.

Ordered take out Thai styled ramen noodles with seafood($ 6.75). It’s a tad spicy. The shrimp are super small, there are more vegetables than there are seafood, and my fish ball slices tasted raw. Not particularly a fan… but I was full after my meal, so I hope that counts for something.

I ordered beef chow fun today for lunch and when I got it, it looked fine, except the fact that they only gave me 3 slices of small beef ! what a rip off, I would have told the manager but I let it go, they didn’t deserve any tips but the waiter looked desperate for a tip so I let him keep the dollar. the service is horrible there, I always have to get the menu my self and sit down, without someone telling me where to be seated and the place is small. Conclusively the major problem with this place is the lack of meat when you order spaghetti with sausage or fried rice with beef etc. they give a lot of spaghetti, rice, but«extremely«very little amount of beef. Not a satisfying meal most of the time.

My family and I were walking around Chinatown to find a good clean and inexpensive place for lunch. The Satay Beef(with green peppers, onions and gravy) on white rice, the Pineapple and Chicken fried rice, and the Fried Chicken Steak on white rice were good. They’re a bit on the salty side so make sure you mention, «less salty.» The Cheesy Cheddar fries were less desirable,(shoestring fries with powdered cheddar). I was looking for melted cheese on the fries. They should bring back the ¼″ cut fries,(the same size as Wendy’s french fries.). The boss is very courtesy. Service is prompt. If it wasn’t for the skinny powdered cheddar fries I would’ve rated the restaurant as a 5 star mini restaurant.

This little spot tucked away inside the Chinatown arcade/tunnel is a gem. A favorite destination for my coworkers and I after working the night shift. The price is perfect and the food is of a decent quality. Staff is friendly also. There is a wide variety of Asian food along with traditional breakfast foods. The coffee and teas are excellent. A must check out place if you’re in the area.

The taro coconut milk with tapioca(西米露) is my favorite item at this café. This is the first place that I know that sells this. If you know of another place that sells this, then you need to message me now! I’ve also had their beef with sesame pancake, and it is not good. It’s pretty much a sesame pancake with some sliced beef. That was pretty much it. There weren’t any veggies or sauces in the sandwich. I may have had too high of expectations for this place. But, for now I’ll still be coming here for my taro coconut milk with tapioca!

I have been itching to try Mini Express since it took over the space that Coluck used to be. My boyfriend and I spontaneously decided to come to Mini Express for a quick bite before an appointment with an insurance company. There’s barely any décor, but it’s fairly cozy to eat here. The space is really small compared to Coluck and a limited amount of tables and seating. We arrived around 3 – 3:30pm and there were no seats available, so we patiently waited until a table was available. We sat near the entrance which was a bit of a pain because there was a wall divider that wasn’t placed properly and it kept falling over my boyfriend’s head(how nice!), but the nice gentleman eventually fixed it. We ordered two beverages and two dishes and a soup. My boyfriend ordered a shark fin soup which looked very much like New England Clam Chowder — white, creamy, and had potato chunks. It didn’t seem like there was a lot of shark fin at all and for $ 3-$ 4.00 for a bowl of soup, can’t expect much. He also ordered a chicken sandwich and a red bean ice with grass jelly. I didn’t try any of his food, but in his own opinion — he thought the food was okay, not great and definitely inexpensive. As for myself, I ordered the soy milk with grass jelly(a personal favorite of mine) and a stir-fried instant noodle with ham and egg. The soy milk with grass jelly wasn’t too sweet which I liked and refreshing, but I wished there were more grass jelly. The stir-fried instant noodle with ham and egg was savory and tasty! Although, it got to a certain point where it wasn’t enjoyable to eat anymore because the cold wind kept blowing towards us and made my food cold. Mini Express is definitely different from Coluck restaurant, but the food is similar so that’s good. This mini restaurant is appropriate for brunch, lunch, and if you need a quick bite. The food wasn’t excellent, but it was good.

A selection of both Western and Eastern favorites. Come in and enjoy a meal — whether you take out or dine in in one of their six tables for two.

For a Friday dinner meal, I ordered the Corned Beef Sandwich combo($ 5.75). combo = addition of soup. I selected the chicken & corn soup. When I opened my wrapped sandwich(took it to-go), it was equivalent to 2 slices of white bread sandwiching a few corned beef slices, tomato slices, and mayo. IMO, it makes a good snack. Tastes good. I love a little bit of mayo in my sandwich. The Chicken & Corn Soup is tasty, but thick and lacking chicken and corn. Looks like they add corn starch or some other thickener. This is my 3rd or 4th time eating at Mini Express. In retrospect, even their noodle and rice dishes are lacking proteins and veggies. I suppose it’s the proper portion if you eat every 2 hours like I do.

I’ve still been doing takeout from Mini Express because every time I stop by, the place is full and packed, not to mention I’m always by myself so takeout would be the better option. Breakfast here is pretty worth your buck, each item comes with a drink and toast and is around $ 3ish which can leave you pretty full. Lunch is usually a hit or miss. Calling in advance would be better if you don’t want to wait. I would suggest getting the noodle items more than the rice as it’s the cheapest in Chinatown as of now(if anyone disagree please let me know, this girl here likes some cheap Chinese food also — share the love). Owner is friendly and quick.

When I heard Coluck was closing, I wanted to cry. I’ve been going there since I was old enough to chew my own food. I have such fond memories of their ham+egg sandwiches. I literally could’ve eaten 3 of them for dinner and be perfectly happy. When I heard that Coluck was«re-opening» with a new name and a smaller store front, I rejoiced because I thought I would be able to get the same old ices, rice dishes and my favorite ham+egg sandwich. Boy was I wrong. The ham+egg sandwich that I had from them did not taste like the old Coluck. The egg wasn’t folded. The wonder bread wasn’t oily. Despite the same style of wrapping the sandwich, it just wasn’t the same. I am once again disappointed and sad. Shame on you guys for giving me false hope.

This place makes me sad. So sad. In Hong Kong, I jump around over its divine food and drinks. In New York. I bang my head on the table. Derpy cashier + bad food = man, Hong Kong won’t be opening another one of their food chains in New York any time soon. Mini Express in Hong Kong is a haven; though fast, the food is presented nicely and made with love. I feel no love here at all. The man with the glasses doesn’t even know half of the menu, and can be very difficult to deal with. He even grabbed my friend’s menu off her hands to put in the order! The yeung chow fried rice is nothing special, wish they could add more ingredients. The creamy spaghetti with ham & corn is gross; all topped with canned corn and mysterious cream sauce, this turns into another Campbell’s mysterious cream soup. just more noodles. The one good thing I will say about this place is their drinks. It’s the only place that where fruit cocktail still exists and I LOVE their condensed milk ice! Honestly, not worth the $ 2.50 since they charge you for an extra longan, which is like the normal topping.

It’s the old Coluck but revamped and smaller. It’s so modern looking now. I have been going to Coluck since I was a kid for their ice slush drinks soooo good. It is the only place in Chinatown that makes their ice as a slush drink instead of chips of ice. Awesome! I thought Coluck was gone. Thank goodness it was just a renovation and new name. The ice slush drinks are still around… phew!

Mini Express has bing*, not just bing* but great bing*! We tried the red bean ice and lychee ice($ 2.75 each); flavorful and tasty. the red bean and lychee both standout in flavor and smoothness. We then decided to stay for HK-style spaghetti dinner. Curry Chicken Potato spaghetti $ 5.75– flavorful and delicious; just enough heat. Rate 4⁄5. Tomato Chicken spaghetti $ 5.75– sweet & tangy sauce; delicious. Rate 4⁄5. *Icy slush drinks.
