I usually go here with my boyfriend whenever they have some nice beer on tap. The place is really nice, but it can be trick to get a seat at busier times. I wasn’t impressed with the food, so now I just drink. Good place to have a few drinks and maybe buy some beer/chocolate to go!

Great little place that I happened to find while walking by — wasn’t even looking for a beer but really glad that beer happened because it was highly enjoyable. Not a huge place but they have an awesome selection of both bottled beers and taps. The pretzels are amazingly good — pairs perfectly with a nice pint. The cheese curds are super good as well. Didn’t try anything else food wise but the people sitting next to me at the bar were sharing a sandwich that looked heavenly. Very friendly staff and service is prompt. Loved the Other Half brew that was on tap the day I visited — smooth and delicious. The ambience is very cozy — great to hang out with a couple friends and just relax. Very unpretentious and that’s a very good thing. Happy I found this place — I will be back!

For a person who is not usually beer person, Im really impressed. I walked in and the bartender was super knowledgeable and understanding! I told her I don’t really like beer too much, and she was able to let me try a few and to my surprise, I liked a couple of them! It was cozy and they didn’t rush me or make me feel unwelcome for not being a beer expert. Id recommend it!

What a great spot! I stopped here with a friend before a show at Webster Hall, and we enjoyed a couple of brews as well as: the Vermont cheddar cheese curds, the pickle plate, and the homemade bier cheese with pretzel. All were amazing! One of the guys behind the counter who had prepared some of our food came over and had us try a few different pickle varieties he’d been testing out on his own, which was a treat. If we weren’t going to a concert right afterward, I would have definitely purchased a few cans/bottles of beer that they had on the wall. They had an interesting variety, several of which I’d never seen or heard of before. Definitely a great find, and one I’ll come back to again.

Stumbled across this place tonight and boy am I glad I did! They serve craft beers and the most amazing melted cheese sandwiches. They even have a chocolate grilled cheese sandwich with dark chocolate and mascarpone that is absolutely divine.

Nice selection on draft and retail. However the service is a shoot or miss. The 4 times I’ve been there, I remember only having ONE pleasant visit. The bartenders are generally amable, but the last couple of times I’ve been met with snotty attitude, in top of forgetting to put in my order. Can’t say I’ll be coming back any time soon.

For legit reasons my friend Steph and I hold a pretty huge grudge against Astoria Bier and Cheese. Both of our reviews for that establishment pretty accurately describe the shit customer service you can receive there. So, naturally, we needed to find a new craft beer place and decided it would be genius to try their brother/sister beer and cheese shop in Manhattan. It was nearby to somewhere else we were going and high on both of our lists for places to check out. Some great things that make this place clearly better than the Astoria location: 1. The bottles in the fridge are actually labeled with their prices. All of them. Even your $ 35 bougie where in the heck is this from bottle. 2. The selection of beers is just as fab. Also their selection of meats, cheese, and sandwiches from their menu are nearly identical and awesome sounding. Also, FANCYPICKLES. Yaaaas. 3. The service is waaaaay more friendly. I wasn’t accosted, pressured at any point in choosing a beer. Actually the bartenders the times I’ve come in have said: «You can try as many samples of whatever you like on tap if you’re not sure what you want.» Music to my ears. The foods I’ve tried here so far: Cheese curds: It comes with some fresh sliced crusty bread from Amy’s Bread but these don’t taste like legit cheese curds. I’m from the Midwest and 30 minutes from Canada. These taste more like chunks of delicious White Vermont Cheddar Cheese. There ain’t nothing wrong with that. Maybe they should try serving them deep fried. MMmmm fried cheese curds. Ricotta Plate with raw drizzled on honey with those twirly delicate breadsticks that taste like vanilla and love and candied pecans. For only $ 4 this is so worth it. It’s desert and cheese at the same time! Recently came back with a buddy to sample beer after not being back for a few months and tried that bier cheese and pretzel. The pretzel is served warm and it comes on a chalk board labeled platter with an artistic swirl of spicy mustard. The bier cheese isn’t the best I’ve ever had(Union Hall and Floyd’s in the BK are pretty banging) and more disappointingly I wanted MORE of it. But I can’t hate on cheese and I can’t hate on craft beer. Which is all decently priced but there could be some kind of happy hour deal. Even a stupid happy hour that like ends at 6 or 7. Last time I came in most of everything on tap was at least $ 8. Great spot though for a more adult crowd for low key hangs, meat, and cheese.

I’ll keep it simple. First time walking in was great. Every other time not so great. Its close to my job, great spot to just drink a beer and chill, but there’s something about the service that doesn’t feel welcoming. I won’t go into details, but I’d rather take the walk to Good Beer instead. 3 stars for the great selection of beer though

Good cozy craft beer joint when I’m in the area. I like the vibe here. I like sitting by window and people watching on Broadway.

Fun spot. Drop and grab some bottles, cans, or growlers of beer. A few ciders available as well. Both cold and room temperature depending on your needs. Also a lot of various snacks and things to go with the beer. Or you can stay and drink whatever you like. Want a cold bottle? Grab it out of the cooler and they’ll add it to your check. Sandwiches are great too. Staff is friendly and welcoming. If you’re sitting at the counter on a slow night you’re as likely as not to end up in a card game with the bartender and some of the regulars. Niggling complaint/wish — that they’d stay open later. Often want to drop in for a pint on my way home and they’re usually closing up or already gone.

Great new spot with a great bottle selection(stuff I usually don’t see at other spots around town) as well as stuff on tap. Pricing is eminently reasonable for the area. Not to mention the other goodies they have in here — cheese, cured meats, etc. Friendly service as well.

Milk & Hops is a great place to unwind and just relax. The bartenders/cooks aren’t fussy and they have a great selection of beers and cheese. They do a great take on Vietnamese subs. I do wish that the place had more seating and maybe a happy hour deal. The staff had tons of knowledge about their selection of cheeses and beers.

This is a great place. My friends and I dropped in here for an after dinner drink, however, this was my 5th visit to Milk & Hops. — I’m not a beer drinker, but enjoyed trying out a cider. Beer drinkers will love this place. It would be cool if a wine or two was added to the menu to appease non-beer drinkers, but everything else is done SO well here that if on priciple, the don’t add wine, I’m ok with that haha. — Of the food I’ve tried here, all has been excellent: the BLT(truly magnificent), cheese curds & sourdough bread, and the ricotta plate(ohhhh so good). — I like the uniqueness and simplicity of this venue, open and airy feel, mix of retail items on the shelves, and countertop bar seating for either drinking or eating. Milk and Hops is a welcome addition to the neighborhood, I’m wishing them well and will continue recommending to my friends.

From the creators of Astoria Bier & Cheese comes Milk & Hops. Need I say more? Well, maybe just a little since this is a review. It’s quite simple: Great beer(smoked wheat beer was my choice) great sandwiches made with delicious, delicious cheese(yes, delicious X 2) such as the ham and brie pretzelwich, and good music courtesy of someone’s phone on Pandora radio = a great time had. At least for me; If it’s not for you then we can’t be friends. If you find yourself unable to make the trip to Astoria(you really should go though), Milk & Hops is the perfect substitute.

Where to begin? Oh, I know, let’s start with the ridiculously awesome beer selection. They have just about any beer you can imagine and some of the beers even come with a great story! Next, the staff. Knowledgable, friendly, the kind of people I want to be friends with and drink beer with. Finally, the food. Had the meat plate and being Italian, I have a particular appreciation for some good meat. I can’t wait to try some of their sandwiches. It has been decided that this will be a regular stop for me and I hope more people check this place out! So glad we stumbled upon this place. Borderline life-changing experience, borderline.

Another great spot by Astoria Bier and Cheese. If you’ve been to the other locations it’s pretty much the same set up except a bit smaller. As usual they have a large amount of craft beer offerings both in bottles and about 10 –12 taps. If you are even close to being hungry have a sandwich here. You will not be disappointed. Milk and Hops is right near my job. I’m not sure if this is a good or a bad thing for me. Especially living in between the other two locations in Astoria. I’m always going to be so tempted.
