Hi, a message for Mary and JB. They have recommended Metropolitan fine arts and antiques saying how wonderful the brothers are. So honest!!! Then why have they had two lawsuits against them for misleading their customers. I would advise anyone especially buying jewellery to be very careful. Poorly made in China and not worth what they charge for it. Very smooth and charming but total scam artists.

Stereotypical SCAMARTISTS are running this business! Ultimately, my mom and I could have avoided being scammed if we had trusted our instincts, had fully read the store’s return policy, and had gotten our agreement with the owners in writing. That said, we were totally lied to by the owners when they said they’d make an exception to their return policy. Since we didn’t get it in writing, it is our own fault. However, I’m writing this review to warn people of the less than stellar practices going on at Metropolitan Antiques. From the minute my mom and I set foot in this store, the two brothers who own it were beyond pushy about trying to sell us things. We understood that these were business men who would do all they could to get us to buy their merchandise, but I still thought they were way too pushy even given this fact. My mom settled on buying a necklace she liked, but they kept trying to up-sell her on pieces that matched it. She kept declining. Eventually, they told her they would ship her an accompanying bracelet that matched her necklace, and she could decide whether or not to keep it. We were both told that, if she didn’t want to keep it, she could mail it back to them and not be charged for it. Full disclosure: we were only told verbally that she could send the bracelet back and not be charged for it(while only being charged for the necklace). We thought we were done with out business at the store, when one of the brothers INSISTED on «giving us a tour» even though we mentioned needing to leave to catch our flight. He then relentlessly tried to get us to buy their hideous merchandise(think over-the-top ivory sculptures, gaudy lamps, tables, etc. – things that are more about showing off how much money you have than they are aesthetically pleasing). Again, we declined to purchase anything else. My mom decided not to keep the bracelet so she called and was assured by a brother that she could just mail the bracelet back, not be charged, and just buy the necklace. The owners then refused to accept the delivery of the package she mailed back to the store with the bracelet in it, or give her a refund. Granted, the store’s return policy gave us no recourse, but we had trusted the word of these two brothers when they told us MULTIPLE times that my mom could return the bracelet and not be charged. So, silly us for being so trusting. We ended up getting scammed even though we are typically two savvy women. Anyone who visits this business should know our story and be extremely cautious and wary of purchasing from this unethical business.
