I celebrated my birthday here in April with 10 of my friends and it was fantastic. Everything was great from the service to the food. Superb! My boyfriend and I dined last week and was not disappointed. The front door staff(hostess) were very lovely, asked if we were celebrating something or anything we had requested. However when I made the reservation, I told them my boyfriend plays for the NY Jets and would love a table on the first floor; they took us downstairs all the way by the bar… I’m sure it’s not easy to accommodate everyone, so I would deff not hold them to that… Our experience was great. Our server Mark described the menu very detailed and came to check up on us. I would deff ask to be in his section next time! This place is great! The food is exceptional! We will be back! Thanks Mastros and staff!

Taking my bf to a steakhouse here for his birthday I assumed would be like any other high end steakhouse. Always a great experience great food great drinks yada yada yada. But Mastros by far is now our #1. from appetizer to dessert every last bite was as succulent as the first bite. Bone in steak melts in your mouth, shrimp cocktail appetizer that exuded freshness and butter cake that made us want to shed tears of joy. I had sushi and I devoured it. I am not dramatic but this steakhouse blows out the competition.(And we’ve done the del frescos & capital grille, uncle jacks, Mortons, MJ steakhouse) David the waiter never missed a beat and made our experience that much better. I would give this place 10 stars. Hashtag… we’ll be back next week! See you soon David

Very good steakhouse in NYC, I was devastated when BLT Steak lost it’s luster many years ago. Mastro’s didn’t disappoint one bit, great wine selection, educated server and perfectly prepared filet mignon and sides that were so delicious I could almost order those one time for dinner. Great with the kids and kids meals satisfied all the fussy eaters.

I came here on a whim with some friends after a Broadway show because it was in the area, and it turned out to be a great choice. The atmosphere is a little funky — the room is very dark, with purple and blue lights along the perimeter like a Vegas lounge. They had a live band that was actually very good, although they were loud. If being able to see and/or hear your dining partners is important to you, I would suggest that you find a different spot. Fortunately, my friends and I have known each other long enough that we can communicate almost telepathically, so it wasn’t a huge issue. The food here is very good. We started with a seafood tower, which was visually impressive with dry ice vapors wafting all over the table. They have a good wine list, with many solid sub-$ 200 options, which we enthusiastically took advantage of. All of us ended up getting the bone-in filet, which was amazing. One of the best steaks I’ve ever had. After gorging on the massive seafood tower, though, I wish they offered smaller cuts of meat. None of us were able to get through more than half of our meals. We ordered several sides, which were good but not particularly notable. The only negative was the lobster mashed potatoes, which were good but were very liquidy. It was like a potato, lobster, and butter soup. However, there was an entire lobster in that dish. The biggest advantage to the odd lack of lighting is that nobody can see the seams of your dress bursting when you leave. I would definitely come back.

First off, a Mastro’s bone-in filet is truly the only way a steak should ever be eaten. I was changed from the first try. It’s not food, but a religious experience. Everything from the raw bar, to creamed spinach, to lobster mac & cheese, is phenomenal and large enough to share with several people. Many of the cocktails are a hit, but the Elderflower Martini takes my prize for the best drink I have ever had in my life. Refreshing, light and bright; everything this girl appreciates. Service was exceptional. Top notch. They make you feel like you’re far more important than you are lol but it’s never pretentious; just an all around fun atmosphere. Wonderful for a date or groups. As a side, the bread basket rocks.

Tucked away in Rockefeller Center Mastros is one of the best steakhouses in the city. Not only is the food impeccable and cooked to perfection, but the service is excellent. Never had to flag a waiter down for anything. In fact we had three different waiters serving us. One would bring out the appetizers, another the entrees, etc. This was our second time dining at this chain. Our first time was at the one in Newport Beach, California. After being blown away by the food and service there, my husband and I were excited to finally try it out in the city. Same standards coast to coast. They bring out a complimentary bread basket which has an assortment of warm breads. If dining with a large group try the seafood tower which comes out on dry ice and is as appetizing as it is visually appealing. The entrees are also great, you can’t go wrong with the seafood or the steak. Their signature warm butter cake is a must try! We were celebrating my husbands birthday so they brought it out complimentary. Definitely worth a try if you’re looking to celebrate a special occasion, have a business meeting, birthday etc. Oh also did I mention they have a live band playing on the top floor!

The Story: Boyfriend’s Company Annual Holiday Party. Food: We had a private room reserved for us and it started out with cocktail hour and an open bar. I’m not a big drinker but their Dream Berry Martini is the win! I enjoyed their appetizers — for some reason the chicken with sun dried tomato really stood out to me. The dinner started with jumbo pawn cocktail(you can’t even call these shrimp) and it was amazing. I didn’t enjoy the Lobster Bisque soup — too creamy and buttery for my taste. I liked their mac and cheese side dish and I ordered a 22oz rib eye for the entrée. The steak was tender and juicy but a little on the salty side for me. I got the butter cake as dessert — I wasn’t that impressed by it. Price: I cannot comment on it since I was the plus one to the event. But I would assume expensive. Décor: Very trendy but kinda dark in there. Service: The service is EXCELLENT. The waiters holding the appetizers knew I wanted pictures of the food so they kindly took out their pocket flashlight and lit provided lighting onto the food. They had personality as well, even joked about coming to me first with all the apps. My drinks were never empty and they noticed I was holding onto skewers from the apps and asked if they can discard that for me(great attention to detail). Even in the bathroom I had someone turn on the sink for me! Parking & Finding the Place: Located on 52nd Street &6th Avenue. We took a car service in but since the tree is also up at this time of year and we’re so close to time square there was A LOT of traffic. Additional Thoughts:

Mastro’s Steakhouse is by far one of my most favorite steakhouses ever. Not only is the food absolutely mouthwatering, the live music is incredible and the service is top notch! I’ve been here twice so far for dinner. Once with a large group of around 18 people and another time as a party of two. It is definitely a restaurant where you should make a reservation even if it is a random day of the week because it can get busy, despite being a large restaurant with two levels. I do recommend coming here in a large group so you can try many different appetizers and sides! The appetizers and sides are what really makes this restaurant shine in my humble opinion. We had: — Complimentary bread basket: Yes, this is worth mentioning. I never cared much for breads, but these are different. You get a huge variety of breads to pick at. They are so good. Just try to not stuff yourself with bread too much. — Jumbo lump crab stuffed mushrooms: This appetizer is off the hook! Sprinkle a little of fresh lemon juice on it and wowza… I die. — Lobster mashed potatoes: Probably their most popular side and with good reason. There are huge chunks of lobster in nearly every velvety bite of mash. If you can only choose one side, I’d recommend going with this one! — Alaskan king crab black truffle gnocchi: Very rich. Truffle oil galore for real. While this is very tasty, it can be overwhelming after more than a few bites. — Sautéed mushrooms: This may sound like a simple side dish, but it was one of my favorites! — Creamed spinach: I may be biased with this one because I never liked creamed spinach and simply do not care for it. It taste like your typical creamed spinach. Bleh. Not a fan. Both times I came here, I ordered the 22oz bone-in ribeye which is a rather generous size. It was always cooked perfectly to my liking. This is definitely the steak to order if you like yours marbled. It is luxuriously tender and succulent — so friggin delicious! However if there was one thing I wish, it would be that it has some char to it which I absolutely love in steaks and is so important to me. For this reason, I would have to say I prefer Quality Meat’s porterhouse just a teeny weeny more. As for dessert, its all about the signature warm butter cake — oh you know it! I’m sure its ingredients consists of a heart attack waiting to come but I guess«YOLO» right? If you are not already stuffed to the max and seriously considering ordering dessert, you must order the butter cake! The live band entertainment starts at 6:30pm. While they perform on the main level, even if you are seated downstairs you can still enjoy it. The singers are very talented and just so much fun to listen to. It is one of the main reasons why I want to keep coming back. The service here really is phenomenal. The workers here are very professional, yet friendly. Whether dining with a large group or small, the waitstaff always provide the best of service and never appear outwardly overwhelmed. I would have to mention though that when I came here with the large group and asked for my plate to be packed up at the end of dinner, I was upset to find that all my sides were tossed out and just my steak was in the box… Not to mention my box was switched with my friend’s. I only opened my takeout box to check because I was wondering why it was strangely lighter in weight than I expected. It was probably because our waiter had other several waitstaff help pack up our stuff so some people had their sides, and others did not. That kind of left a bad taste in my mouth but I understand it can be a somewhat of a challenge with so many people. Nonetheless my overall experience has been very positive. I highly recommend coming to this restaurant on your next special night out.

We came here for my friends birthday and was absolutely blown away! They have suggested this restaurant several times, but we had never tried. We are definitely happy we decided to finally check it out. Since we were there with a large group we started with a lot of plates to share. We had oysters on the half shell that were fresh and delicious! We also ahi tuna tostada and hamachi with crispy onions. Both were absolutely fantastic. For my entrée I had the Chilean sea bass. The preparation was so simple, but absolutely perfect. The fish was cooked and seasoned to perfection. For sides we had the Lobster mashed potatoes, Shoestring fries and Brussels sprouts. At this point I was so stuffed, but it still couldn’t stop me from eating this delicious food. As far as atmosphere, this restaurant is on point. They had a live band which really turned the dinner into a night out. I loved it! The only thing I wasn’t totally impressed with was the cocktails. I tried 2 different specialty drinks, both which were much too sweet for my taste. I look forward to returning, great spot!

This is what a great restaurant should be — fantastic service, food, atmosphere… even live music. We were a group of 12 and were seated and served immediately. The wait staff converged upon us, getting everyone drinks and(really good) bread on the table, and they were all incredibly friendly. Danny our waiter was knowledgeable, nice and couldn’t have been more attentive. The appetizers were mostly shared — and everything from sushi rolls, garlic shrimp, shrimp cocktail and oysters — to the huge slab of bacon were excellent. Everything was flavorful, saucy(when appropriate) and very very fresh. The quality was excellent and everything had great rich flavor. The main courses and sides were awesome and plentiful. Everyone had either a steak(at least 30 to choose from), or a seafood dish and each raved about their dish. We shared about 8 side dishes and you can’t go wrong with ordering any(or all) of them. The lobster mashed potatoes were a big hit. Even the martinis were excellent. I’m not a dessert person but there were a variety of desserts on the table and everyone liked them as well. Based on location, i imagine Mastro’s attracts a large work crowd but the upstairs has a nice bar and live music, which take away the work feel. Will definitely be back.

Our first time here was a Saturday night and my cousin picked the place. I loved the Mac n cheese and the desserts, butter cake & profiteroles. I had chicken but should have had steak but I wasn’t in the mood. Everyone had a good time and the food was awesome! Loved the band.

Other than the attentive waitstaff, I’d have to say the restaurant should be named Disastros ! My dinner consisted of an Overpriced, tasteless, house salad and Lobster sushi. My father ordered swordfish and was served Salmon. There was a live band that overloaded our senses with poorly played songs that made it impossible for us to enjoy any dinner conversation. I cannot recommend this place at all. Stay away! There’s better food at better prices everywhere but here

Had dinner at Mastro’s last night to celebrate my husband’s birthday. From start to finish our experience was 5 stars. So glad Mastro’s is now on the east coast. Ambiance: There was live music upstairs, which was great. But we had to move downstairs otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to hear each other. Overall the restaurant has the nice dark look and feel of a traditional steakhouse. Service: Excellent. Our waiter was very patient and sweet and was very attentive. Food came out relatively quickly as well. Food: Excellent. – Shrimp cocktail was delicious — my 10-year-old loved the dry ice effect. – Crabcake wasn’t the best I’ve had as it was a bit mushy — I wouldn’t order this again. – Complimentary bread basket was absolutely delicious. – Beefsteak tomato salad was fresh and tasty(not sure it was worth the $ 12 though). – Petite filets received great reviews from the husband and daughter(I don’t eat red meat). – Roasted Brussels sprouts were good. Not greasy which was nice. – Garlic mashed potatoes were nice and buttery. – Chocolate cake also received great reviews from the husband and daughter(I didn’t try it as I was way too full). Mastro’s is definitely on the expensive side — as most steakhouses are. But the service and food really make the splurge worth it. We’ll definitely return.

I’m not generally a person who visits Steak Houses but The Mastro’s Steakhouse was a real treat. Very good service. Very good appetizers. Very good steak. And even the desert menu was really fantastic. I came with some friends and ordered the Bone-In Ribeye done at Medium Rare. The steak was very nicely done, soft and supple and full of flavor. We also had lobster mac and cheese. This kind of opened my eyes. Creamy and luxurious and the lobster was a great complement. The Bone-marrow kind of disappointed, however after we added a slight bit of salt it really opened up the flavors of the marrow again. The Crab cake was a nice combination of flavors and worth getting. I agree with Doreen L. the steak here is probably one of the best compared to the rest of NYC. We had the signature warm buttered cake and it was marvelous, rich, creamy, and good to the last bite. Nice way to cap off a visit to the Mastro’s.

It’s perpetually night time at Mastro’s. They must have shaded their windows or something because it’s disorienting to walk in there. If you like to skulk around in the dark, then Mastro’s is the place for you. The food is on par with all the many other steakhouses in the area — Quality Meats, Del Frisco’s, Bar Americain, Ruth Chris, Capital Grille, Maloney & Porcelli… the list goes on. Anyway, you get my point. Midtown has a lot of steakhouses and food isn’t what sets Mastro’s apart. Why come here then? For the AMAZING live band! These guys are crazy talented… one night, they did a cover of one of Beyonce’s songs and it was spot on. I think they play every night, starting fairly early(like 6 pm).

Mastro serves a great steak, and they kick it up a notch by dressing your plate. Downstairs is where we were seated, which seemed to more conducive to talking except the music got turned up midway through the meal. Very very good steak. Better than most of the steakhouses in NYC. Here’s my current rating(best to worst): Mastro, Quality Meats, Keens, Del Friscos, Peter Lugers, Capital Grille, BLT, Club A. Wagyu grass-fed, bone-in rib eye beef just tastes amazing. A naturally sweet, savory marbled cut of steak. Even cooked to medium, it was amazing. And each patron gets a fresh-out-of-the-oven plate(I believe 400 degrees) with a little olive oil and parsley on it. The heated plate is to keep your steak warm while you devour the meat. That dressing makes an amazing steak so much better. And the 33 oz rib eye was marbled and had chunks of fat in the meat. Not an even cut. Despite the cut, the meat was delicious. Perfect sear. Simple seasoning, the meat really stars in this dish. The waiter was charming and very understanding. Great service! Especially for a table of 7, who initially wanted wine and cocktails, then didn’t. Then, we took 5 – 10 minutes each time a decision needed to be made, such as deciding entrees, desserts and apps. Thank you so much!

I always expect to find the Best of the Best in NYC, but Mastro’s in midtown exceeded all expectations. After the wildly exciting day at the Belmont Stakes and a new Triple Crown after 37 years and a 2 hour battle back into the City, we couldn’t have walked into a better place. The energy of the 9:30 crowd was buzzing, but we got seated right away with absolutely no hassle or wait. The music was huge, and the ambiance and noise level was somehow perfect: energetic without being overwhelming. If the bone-in fillet isn’t a signature item, it should be. What can I say about a perfectly seasoned, flavorful, fork tender to the bone steak! Nothing, actually. The garlic mashed potatoes were excellent, but now wishing we’d gone for the lobster mashed potatoes as well. The grilled salmon was perfectly done too, and this was the only time or place that we’ve ever been asked how we wanted it prepared, medium or well done. The olive tapenade is what really made the salmon a stand out. The Warm Butter Cake is labeled a signature item, and if there were more than 5 stars, this would get it! The simple name belies the perfect presentation of how a simple recipe of flour, sugar, eggs, and butter can be masterfully combined with sweet cream, cream cheese, ice cream, raspberries, strawberries. Must have whenever here! The live music was the best band ever in a great steakhouse. Excellent singer, with the perfect playlist for an NYC late night dinner. And of course, they made a perfect Bullet Rye on the rocks with a lemon twist. Here, even the ice seems perfect. My new favorite steakhouse!

Oh how I love steakhouses. Flavorful meat aside, I always get excited when I find a new place in the city that can fulfill my desire to find good alternatives to tried and true stalwarts such as Peter Luger and Wolfgang’s. My experience at Mastro’s was very positive. Upon entering the staff was very friendly and professional. We had a seat near the band, which was a big plus since it really added to the pleasant ambiance of the evening. The restaurant is dark and has a pretty upscale/nightclub kind of vibe. First off the prices here are pretty high. Even for folks like me who are used to frequenting steakhouses around the city, this place will raise eyebrows. It’s definitely something that caters to the Wall Street expense account. However, price is one thing and fortunately they delivery the quality that’s expected when you’re shelling out so much for food. In my first visit I had a chance to try the crab cakes and the NY strip pepper steak. The crab cakes were flavorful, big and surprisingly filling for an appetizer. Ordering two of them will almost make you feel like you’re having an entrée already. Between the steaks I ultimately chose the NY pepper steak based on the recommendation of my server. The meat itself was high-quality and the 16 oz portion will most certainly satisfy most appetites. Personally I was absolutely stuffed by the end(and was unable to try any of the desserts, much to my chagrin). As for the steak — here the medium-rare temperature came out as expected: pink on the inside and perfectly tender. My only issue with the preparation was the uneven balance of peppercorn spread across the steak. For my specific order, I noticed there was a lot of pepper in the middle of the meat and not so much on the edges. That made some bites in the center-cut feel overpowering and it completely muted the flavor of the meat. My recommendation would be that in the future, definitely consider a more natural cut before hopping on the pepper bandwagon. I tried two sides(the creamed spinach and french fries) and both were fine. The creamed spinach was not as refined compared to what is served at places such as Wolfgang’s. Here it seems it was a bit heavy on the cream and low on flavor. The french fries were solid. Not too overwhelming and not overly greasy. One of the best parts of this place was definitely the atmosphere. It is relaxed, and the in-house band playing old standards was a nice touch. This is definitely a great place to gather with friends or a nice date. Overall I thought the steaks were above average. While they are definitely not Peter Luger killers, they still stand out well on their own right and will most likely appease most carnivores in the city.
