Mario has reached out to me and provided a full refund. It is my understanding that Alex is no longer working at the salon. Mario has done his best to rectify the situation.

I went to Mario Nico Salon over 10 years ago and had one of the best haircuts I’ve ever had. Unfortunately, when I went back recently, Alvie, is no longer working there. However, I took a chance on Alex and I’m extremely happy with my cut.
When I arrived for my scheduled appointment, Alex told me he didn’t think I was ready for a haircut, based on the style i was looking to achieve. However, Alex offered to clean the existing cut up a bit until I was ready to come back in a couple of weeks. He didn’t charge me for the clean up. Forward three weeks… Alex took time to consult with me and offered suggestions which were correct, given my facial features.
I must admit, when he was cutting my hair I was a bit worried that it wasn’t going to turn out like I was hoping. However, when it was done… the cut was amazing and versatile. I’ve gotten many compliments and the hair falls in place. Alex has a great demeanor. He is warm, friendly, consultative and genuine. The rest of the staff was also friendly and professional. If you can afford the cut, I highly recommend the Mario Nico Salon. You get what you pay for. Needless to say, I will be coming back!
My only criticism is that they could have more books/​magazines that feature men’s haircuts!

Love everything about this place. My go-​to guy is Alex for color and fabulous blow-​outs of my very long hair. And he’s just a great guy! The ladies, Lisa and London, couldn’t be nicer. Vibe is quiet and hip. Prices are great. What more do you need?

Mario Nico is a great cutter. He layered my long hair perfectly. Nile is the person to see for color. She is, hands down, the best colorist in NYC.

Before I found Mario, I’d been to plenty of hairdressers at high profile salons, but none of them were able to cut my straight, coarse hair perfectly. Mario has now been cutting my hair for over twenty years, and I would never think of letting anyone else touch it. Strangers often stop me in the street to ask who cuts my hair. Mario is a true master.

What a nice salon in the Chelsea area. My former stomping grounds. I was very pleased with the service I received from Alex. He listened to what I wanted done to my hair and exceeded my expectations with the color and cut. I would recommend this place to anyone. They even have their own hair line :-).

Be prepared to be treated like a queen or king! I have been trying different salons in NYC for over 5 years, and the staff here are the friendliest I have ever had the pleasure of chatting with… hands down. Alex did an absolutely amazing job with my highlights and blow out! Lisa was great throughout: greeting every guest that walked through the door, offering beverages, washing hair, and making the checkout process quick and seamless. The experience was relaxing, fun, and I walked out the door looking like a whole new woman (in a good way)! I would highly recommend Mario Nico Salon for highlights.

I was not impressed with the service. Alex — the stylist did a sloppy job with my highlights leaving uneven blochy spots all over my hair. Even though I made my apponitment on a weekday in the middle of the day, he still was to busy and distracted with other customer to focus in my hair. I don’t understand why would they schedule two customers with one stylist during the same time. I won’t be going back anytime soon. Avoid.

I do continue to return to Mario even though I live in Massachusetts right now. Enough said.
(I only have my hair cut, no color.)

Been going to Mario since I lived in the city back in 2002. Even after I moved out to Long Island, I still make the trip in to see him every few months for the best haircut around. Alex is amazing as well, with hair washing and personal service. I feel like family whenever I go there and this is a chic unpretentious salon in Chelsea with an owner that has styled for fashion magazines like Vogue on a regular basis. I tried others on Long Island for convenience and then regretted it. I now ONLY let Mario cut my hair. Besos Mario Nico!

My favorite haircuts have been the ones i got form Mario @Mario Nico. Mario is really talented and also very nice. The place is cute, but i wish they had more comfortable chairs. It’s also expensive. I think it’s around $ 130 for a cut with Mario, less for the others in the salon though. But If i made more money, i’d get my haircut here all the time.
