Great Indian restaurant in UES! The rice is perfect every time; the meals and wine are reasonably priced . We full heartedly recommend eating here or getting take out! It put a little sunshine in our long winter days this year.

As of Dec 2014, they have a B rating. I went there for dinner, and the prices are reasonable for Manhattan, food was flavored extremely well, great portions, but… the service was very sub-par. The owner/manager waited on us for the majority of the time and just seemed as if he couldn’t be bothered with attending to any of our questions or requests. He rolled his eyes when another guest tried to get his attention for 5 minutes for a doggy bag and he was so perturbed by the audacity! Won’t be going back simply due to the fact that he didn’t seem interested in earning patrons’ money.

Decent food. Rude service. OK atmosphere. First I mentioned that I had brought a $ 25 certificate that I had purchased earlier that day and was told hat they no longer participate with . OK fine. I then checked in on Unilocal!and saw there was a Unilocal!check-in offer. Great, a complimentary glass of wine. Yes, red please… What? I was told they no longer participate with Unilocal! And that they don’t honor the check-in offer. OK fine, we ordered the naan, tikka masala and the korma. Both were served very hot and tasted fine. Our servers never checked back with us to see if we wanted anything else. Too bad because we would’ve liked two more glasses of wine. I wouldn’t go back. There simply is no reason to: there are many great local Indian restaurants that appreciate my business.

How can you go wrong with the $ 9.95 lunch buffet? There were 3 chicken options, one shrimp option, a few vegetables, rice, rice pudding, salad and melon. The tandoori chicken was delicious. Everything else I tried was very good too. The waitstaff were attentive… clearing the dishes and refilling the water. The bathroom, at least the woman’s bathroom, was fine. It was clean and had paper towels.

We came here with a coupon from that we got that same day and the Manager told us in such a rude way that they will not accept it, because they have stopped being part of the program a month ago. That’s kind of weird, but I would have been ok with it, if it wasn’t for the very rude way in which he said it to us. We decided to stay anyway as it was late already The food was ok — I’ve definitely had better Indian before. All in all the place felt like it was slowly dying and the bathroom was amongst the worst in NYC. Not coming back.

Staff catered to our large group. The tandoori chicken was divine and smokin coming out! :) would definitely go back!

They offer lunch buffet for 9.95 $ a person, on the weekday. The price is lower than all other places I have been to, but it’s pretty stripped down in terms of options. Being vegetarian, I had two subzis and one daal to choose from. 4 stars because the food was quite delicious. Daal makhani was amazing and so was the saag paneer. Carrot halva for dessert was yummy too. Naan was fluffy and warm. I wouldn’t mind paying a few bucks more for an appetizer or two! The service is good, their restrooms could use some renovations!

Vegans and vegetarians beware! I ordered the Muligatawany soup which is listed as having vegetarian stock. I asked a few questions to confirm that there was no butter or any other dairy. When I looked at the soup it appeared to have chicken in it. When I inquired, the guy told me that it was not vegetarian. He told me that I should have asked if it was vegetarian. Any other time that I have asked those questions at restaurants people would automatically tell me if the food was vegetarian or not. I guess this guy wasn’t experienced in that area. What made matters worse is that he blamed me and he didn’t offer a refund. It was only after a few minutes of going back and forth that he offered to swap for a different soup.

A very rude manager. All we were given was glasses of water during our staying there. When we were paying the manager threw the check back to me as soon as he thought the tip was insufficient. He insisted the total tip should be 20%. I was so upset and what is worse is he kept staring at me even after I was forced to add more tips. I thought tips should reflect the service you were given, but apparently he thought 20% of total value is mandatory under any circumstances. I would never ever visit this place again.

I’ve tried just about every Indian restaurant in the Upper East Side(and…Manhattan, for that matter) and this is my absolute favorite. Service is friendly, attentive and prompt, and the food is outstanding. I’m a vegetarian so my go-tos are the chana saag(not on the menu but they’ll make it anyway), chana massala and navrattan korma. All were great! And when you ask for spicy, they’ll give it to you spicy, which is always appreciated. Overall great place for eating with one friend or many, they’re very accommodating for big groups. Usually a deal here for 30% off if you book through Savored. I highly recommend it to everyone!

To preface, I am by no means a connoisseur of Indian cuisine, nor do I eat it regularly. Maharaja Palace is a decent place to quench your thirst for Indian food. It’s spacious yet cozy, and the service is accommodating and personal. We came here the other day as a large group of twenty and they accommodated us quite nicely. We had a baby with us and when we left, the restaurant packed a little something extra for him, which was incredibly sweet of them. The food is generally decent, and the prices are average — about $ 11 to $ 15 per entrée. The naan was awesome, and I recommend getting the garlic naan. The menu was enormous and it was difficult for me to figure out what to order. It was hard to tell which dishes were their specialty, but they’re generally good with giving recommendations. Summary? I probably will return in case we get a hungering for Indian food that’s nearby.

The food is ok, but the service is so bad and rude. We only have two people and order less than $ 40 food. The bill showed $ 58 and force us to pay the tip for more than $ 9. I won’t come again. Never!

I knew I shouldn’t had gone back there but my colleagues really wanted to eat indian food for lunch and since it’s so close to work, I accepted. Here, what I swear today will be my last journey to Maharaja Palace in five points: — First, the restaurant was totally empty when we arrived which, you’ll have to admit, is really not a good sign considering at when 1:30pm. — Second, the Chicken Saag i ordered, also had bits of lamb in it. What the f**k is that? — Third, I also ordered some Kadai Paneer that never came to the table but magically appeared in the check. — Fourth, the waiter was almost standing by our table to take plate as soon as we were done. — And finally, I’ve been sick for the past days! I might have said it already but: A cheap meal is NOT a good enough excuse for a mediocre service.

Food had excellent flavors and was very tasty. The décor was very nice as well. We had the Lamb Vindaloo and the Chicken Saag, and recommend both. The Lamb’s flavors were perfect. It had a nice tang from the vinegar which immediately gave way to the heat from the spices. The meat itself was tender. The Chicken had a plentiful amount of spinach which was excellently prepared– firm and tender. While not as majestic as the name suggests, the ambiance enhances the experience. The restaurant has warm burgundy color scheme, which complements the walnut colored furniture and contrasts with the white tablecloths. The far wall is lined with brass serving platters(If someone knows the word for these, please let me know. They are beautiful)

It was okaaaaaay. And red. Very red. This would totally be 2.5 stars if I gave half stars. Which I don’t. Sorry! I liked the Chicken Tikka Masala. The spinach thing was exactly«aight.» The Samosas were pretty bland. I ate 4 of them, just to be sure. The service was just OK. We had to consistently request water glass fill-ups, for example. Decent neighborhood spot, no doubt, but venture down to Curry Hill for the real –ish.

I went to this place yesterday with by Fiancé as we got Groupon for $ 291 appetizer, 2 entrees, 2 basic, rice and 1 bread. Food was amazing and service was good too. However when we got the bill it says pay $ 7.27 service tax which we paid and we left tip and was leaving. When we were at door Manager came and said we didn’t pay 15% gratuity I find it embarrassing. I told him its not mentioned on the bill. He replied its mentioned on Groupon. Hello!!! who read all that details its there job to include in the bill so customer can pay later I asked him how much extra I have to pay but he took time to tell me so I just got angry left $ 20 on the table including tax. So Even though it was on Groupon we ended paying $ 50.

I love me some good indian food. I tend to shy away from buffets, save for the occasional holiday buffet thing with friends and family… but this place is pretty all right. A decent selection of indian food favorites(tiki masala, lamb, vegetable thing #1, two kinds of chicken, traditional rice) are constantly being refilled for your gorging pleasure. At $ 11, this is a great place for lunch if you happen to work, as I do, in the area. Service? Eh. All they had to was refill our water, but I can’t really complain since I don’t think they expect a tip when we serve our own food. The food isn’t off the charts great, but I liked everything I tried and left quite full without leaving much of a dent in my wallet. Come alone, come with co-workers, eat with your cab driver… just have cash(you know, that paper stuff) handy. I went with a group and they wouldn’t spit the check 11 ways… which I don’t completely blame them for, it was just a slight hassle running to the ATM to get cash before we went back to work. Good food, quick lunch, bring some paper rectangle payment pieces. Welcome to Maharaja.

As like many other people here, I came here with a Groupon deal for four(2 appetizers, 2 breads, 4 entrees and 4 rice dishes per person) with my family. We arrived at exactly Sunday 5pm when they opened for dinner. There was one other dining party that arrived at the same time, so the place was empty(more people started coming in, and everyone was using a Groupon deal). The place is sort of small/small medium side. We ordered chicken samosas for the appetizer. We also ordered the kebab platter, which was not allowed to be ordered for the deal. For the entrees, we ordered 2 chicken tikka masala, lamb vindaloo and prawn masala. We got 2 basmati rice, peas pulao and lemon rice for our rice and orders of garlic naan for the bread. We got started off with the free papadum and accompanying sauces right away. We ended up finishing two trays of the onion chutney. Our food started arriving. The samosas were nice and flaky and yum and the filling was delicious. They were a pretty big size. The kebab platter was a LOT smaller than what I was expecting for the price($ 12). It was just one piece of each of the different meats cut up into four bite-sized pieces, if that. They were good meat, but definitely not enough to be shared between 4 people. Luckily, we had so much other food that it didn’t matter. We got the rest of our food. They gave us the naan with the nuts and fruits in it by mistake. I was disappointed, because the rest of my family liked it and wouldn’t let me send it back for the garlic naan. I wasn’t particularly fond of the sweet addition(lots of raisins) to the naan because I have always had this idea of naan being savory, not sweet. But, my parents really liked it, so I went with it. The peas pulao was really good. I think I would order that as my rice next time I had a choice. The chicken tikka masala was good, but then again, this is a very classic dish that’s always good for me. The lamb vindaloo was a bit tangier than I was used to, but the lamb meat was so tender and delicious. The prawn masala was tasty as well. I enjoyed all of our food, except the naan, but that is more of a preference than an indicator of quality. The portions were VERY generous for the entrees. We still had one full chicken tikka masala and half of the lamb vindaloo, which we took home. Oh, there was one«issue». While we were waiting for our food, there was a horrible burning smell coming from the kitchen area. It smelled like burnt machine, not burnt food. It was really weird and definitely threw off my appetite for a bit when the appetizers came out. They opened up all the windows to let it air out and it got better. Other than the occasional blips, I really enjoyed my meal here. Since my go-to Indian place closed down, I think I will be ordering from here if I ever get an Indian food craving.
