This place should have 5 stars all around and it should be found in the spa category.(Mental spa) It is an incredibly creative hands on venue. You are overwhelmed w colors, textures and a loom! The teacher is soooooo nice. So so nice. Patient. You leave w a piece of art worth every penny. 10 stars

I’m surprised I didn’t leave a review when I visited this studio a while ago, when my friends and I took a Zen weaving class/workshop. I will keep this brief, but it is well worth visiting this studio to take a class in the SAORI weaving method, to see if it interests you, or if you’re curious about weaving but are on the fence about buying a loom. The class I took, the looms were already warped, and we were taught how to weave, and change colors, and it was very peaceful. I do not know if we were so quiet because we were paying attention so intently, or if it was the meditative aspects of this particular type of weaving or what. But it was a very relaxing, worthwhile afternoon spent with friends. When you enter the studio, you see different types of yarns and little kits and some small gifts that are for sale. So while I would not categorize this studio as a yarn shop per se, there is some fiber to be bought, and I’d suspect whatever supplies are limited and change regularly. I need to plan another visit to this studio soon. I really enjoyed myself.

This place is charming and magical, and the owner Yukako exudes a passion for her craft. She was more than accommodating during my visit, showing me gorgeous hand-woven finished pieces, some unique Japanese products, SAORI weaving and the studio space. I fell in love with the studio and SAORI weaving on my first visit! She was wonderful to explain to me the different kinds of ways SAORI can be practiced by all kinds of people, and even told me about Japanese sewing techniques for woven materials. It’s been a year since I visited the shop, since I don’t live in NY, and I still remember this as a special experience. I will definitely visit her space the next time I’m in the city!
