Wish I had read the reviews before I dragged myself into this dysfunctional practice from hell. It’s a 4 hour commitment of sitting in a waiting room that is dimly lit for obvious reasons. After numerous patients requesting where they are in the queue, you get that sinking feeling that you have made a mistake. After 3 hours of waiting, my name is called. He reads my history and we discuss my Lasik’s surgery I had years prior. He examines me and explains I might have glaucoma(disease in which damage to the optic nerve leads to progressive, irreversible vision loss… blindness). He tells me I need to come back for more testing. I return for a 8:30am appointment only to be seen at 10:00 which is when Dr. Sperber rolls in. More tests are done and he explains to me that he wants to see me in 6 months to monitor the situation now that he has a baseline of the pressure in my eyes. I ask him if it would have been helpful to use my previous records that were done for my Lasik’s surgery years ago as a baseline. He tells me yes of course. So why did I need to come back(another 4 hours) more tests that were completely unnecessary? Unethical if you ask me, coupled with his disregard to anyone’s time. I just needed a Rx to get contacts. What a scam.

Dr Sperber has no regard whatsoever for his patients time. His appointment times start at 8:30am, but he routinely comes in well after 9:30am even though he knows that he has a waiting room full of patients. And don’t expect an apology if he makes you wait 3 – 4HOURS for him. Not going to happen. He’s lucky that most of his patients are quite elderly and have nothing better to do than to sit around for half the day and wait for him to grace them with his presence. But if you have a job, a life, or half a brain, you will just end up pissed off when he makes you wait an obscene amount of time. There are tons of better eye doctors in the city, who will respect your time, and not make you wait 3 – 4HOURS to be seen. Do yourself a favor and find a different doctor … and if you’ve already made an appointment to see him, at least bring a snack with you.

I like Dr. Sperber, I like his staff, and I want to like his practice, but maybe he’s just not the doctor for me. I just wanted to get a new prescription and order new contacts, that’s it. Nothing big. I remember walking into a Cohen’s Fashion Optical last year, perhaps the worst possible place to do such a thing, and still managed to get out within an hour and a half with a pair of sample contacts and two boxes of contacts on the way to my apartment. For some reason, I ended wasting 3 hours of a perfectly beautiful Friday afternoon in his office and ended up with nothing except my wallet minus $ 95. I don’t understand the waiting 45 minutes between each of the 3 different exams I had, and I don’t understand why after all those examinations, I couldn’t get the base curve and axis for my eyeball and so now I had to go find another place to do it, or pay an extra $ 250 to take another exam for it. What was the point of coming here at all? They’re all really friendly, and I won’t take that away from them. And I guess they’re thorough in the sense that they’ll take you through the whole battery of tests. But really, I just want to get some contacts and not pay a fortune in the process of getting them. I guess Dr. Sperber is just not my kind of doctor.
