I’d been hearing about Lamazou for years, and finally had some free time during lunch to take a walk. It was surprisingly empty when I went. I ordered the full order of the Smart Duck sandwich($ 13.05 all told). Their ciabatta bread wasn’t the greatest, but the duck and the melted brie were deeelicious. Though in hindsight, I really should’ve ordered two kinds of half sandwiches instead, since it comes out to roughly the same price. Next time!

I likeLamazou for its consistent quality ingredients. Bread here is fresh and has a crispy crust. Meats and cheeses abound, all good. Don’t expect to find any crazy sandwich creations here. Just good, hearty and simple selections.

If not THEBEST, then certainly one of the very very top sandwich places in Manhattan. The bread is always fresh and crispy, the cuts are solid with great turnover, and everything comes together to make this a winner.

I come here for lunch once in a while. You can never go wrong with their sandwiches. Also, the staff here is super nice and accommodating. I usually get the Lamazou favorite which comes with prosciutto(yummy), mozzarella, and roasted red peppers on a baguette.

Doesn’t get any better than the best cured meats, aged cheeses, chewy bread, and extra virgin olive oil in an old-school Italian sandwich doled out by a very lovely couple in a charming little deli called Lamazou. They have unique bread. It can be dry and crusty and you might have to chewwww through it, but it adds texture to the sandwich and makes you slow down. Enjoy your food. If you’re not a fan of horseradish be careful because they add a lot(tell them to put a little). In the colder months, a half soup-half sandwich combo is wonderful; their soups are homemade and made daily. Kale soups, hearty mushroom are lovely and in November I had a rich Pumpkin soup with a Z’Tuna. It was such a satisfying meal. Compared to Hale and Hearty, they give more soup for a smaller price. Surrounding the deli is a hodgepodge of «delicacies around the world»; Turkish delight, a vast array of San Pellegrino flavors, assorted biscuits/crackers, imported extra virgin olive oil, British Ribena drink, truffle oil, French cookies, teas, coffees and so much more. SAMMICHES: Lamoretti — You can’t go wrong with Roast beef. The cheese is a very soft cheddar and the cornichons add a great pop. One of my favorites. Smart Duck — A crowdpleaser here and I agree its a great sandwich. BUT, Don’t get this if you’re not familiar with the texture of Brie, it can be off-putting for some. Ask for a sample if you’ve never had it. It’s an extremely creamy flowing cheese and they cut a thick slice of it. And no, it doesn’t make you smarter. Z’Tuna — They like to pair each sandwich with some sort of sour condiment(horseradisch, spicy mustard, cornishons). In the Z’Tuna, they pair it with Harissa. It’s a bold red hot chilli paste but it’s not too spicy. This is a favorite of mine. Flaminco — This uses imported Spanish Serrano ham. The texture of the ham is unbelievable. Extremely delicate but it carries an intense smoky flavor. Manchego makes it a sharp and bold sandwich The couple who run the place are extremely warm. In particular, the nice old man who rings you up could be the most heartfelt man in New York. This place is a true gem in Murray Hill. Recommended: Lamoretti, Flaminco, Z’Tuna, Smart Duck, Lamazou Favorite

Food: Sandwiches are great!!! Fresh ingredients, I go with the prosciutto sandwich usually(No. 2 on the menu). Soups are also excellent — lentil soup! Price: EXTREMELY overpriced! You should be ashamed of yourselves for charging this much! Lower your prices and I’ll return as a loyal customer!

Steps: 1) walk inside 2) order the duck sandwich 3) enjoy Legit, authentic, and the staff is super friendly. A little on the pricey side but everything in the neighborhood is. Spend a few more bucks and treat yourself.

Its hard in this neighborhood to find a good sandwich and when you do, its expensive. This is the case with lamazou. The sandwich was delicious and the ciabatta bread was fresh. I will definitely treat myself to this place from time to time. There was a big line almost out the door during lunch time. I am glad i tried it. You can tell when you go in that they have all sorts of cheeses, meats and other ingredients. It looks like it is run by a family which gives it a cozy feeling, as if you aren’t in midtown.

As other commenters have noted, the sandwiches here are unparalleled. Smart Duck has served me well — and it’s true, a half-sandwich will fill you up for lunch. I won’t have much to add there, but will say that I’ve never gotten correct change when ordering here — be vigilant about what your order comes out to and how much you’re getting back! They’re happy to correct if you point out the mistake, just a little frustrating that it keeps happening. Also, note that prices on the menu don’t include tax($ 6.50 sandwich is actually $ 7.08).

You want a sandwich? Go here. I agree with one of my previous reviewers; accept the bread, don’t be a bitch. It’s hearty and it’s wonderful. You taste each of the ingredients and they all taste amazing. From simple ham, cheddar, olive oil sandwiches to more complex Spanish Serrano Ham /Manchego /Harissa sandwiches, you’ll enjoy every savagely torn bite. Only slight knock might be that paying 10 – 13 bucks for a sandwich is a bit much, but it’s New York and the quality is actually legitimate and high everytime, so it’s more than worth it. This is has quickly become spot I go to for lunch around 2 – 3 times a week and I don’t see it stopping as the special and custom sandwiches provide enough variety to not get bored of it.

I don’t normally eat meat, and when I do it’s usually disappointing, it is not worth an animal having a sore toe, let alone its head chopped off. The Smart Duck(#20), Smoked Breast of Duck with Brie & Cornichons on ciabatta was worthy of the impressive sacrifice by the duck. The staff were delightful too. All my concerns/dislike of «Pisillo Italian Panini» don’t apply here, because I will happily eat the same huge Lamazou sandwich in pieces throughout the day.

Every sandwich is a hit. Bread is not for the faint of heart as its hearty; if you’re basic you’ll complain about it scratching the roof of your mouth. Shut up, it’s excellent. Milano, duck, pâté, roast beef, veggie; all solid. Finishing a full sized is quite the accomplishment, so you’ll probably be fine with a half.

My friends rave about this place so I finally decided to give it a try. It’s a little hole in the wall with barely enough room to walk by another person. It’s truly an old school deli. I got the bohemian on the wheat bread and it was so fresh and tasty. The grilled vegetables were incredible, and I’m picky about those. I hate when they’re over cooked, or soggy. Neither was the case here! The only thing I wasn’t expecting was how thick the bread was. My friend says she usually gets hers on focaccia bread so I’ll have to try that next time.

Much like Joey Tribbiani, I love sandwiches of all kinds. Lamazou has officially become my go-to for high quality deli sandwiches with terrific meats and cheeses. No gimmicky stuff here or any super weird ingredients(though I like those sometimes as well). We’re talking classic prosciutto, salami, fresh mozzarella, that sort of thing. My all-time favorite is the Lamoretti, which comes with roast beef, cheddar, and cornichons. Definitely not something I’d think to order if not for the many rave Unilocal reviews, but so glad my fellow Unilocalers guided me to this heavenly sandwich. It’s piled high with meat and cheese, so if you’re not starving a half order would be more than enough. Get here early because like most popular lunch spots in the area, lines will form out the door at rush hour. And get ready for a sublime sandwich experience!

This is such a great find! They have really great cheeses and crackers if just grabbing a snack, but don’t miss out on their sandwiches. I went the the #12 Brima, which doesn’t come with meat so I added prosciutto and salami. This isn’t a cheap eat, but it is WELLWORTHIT! There proportions of each ingredient are well balanced. I loved brine from the artichokes and roasted red pepper soaking into the bread without turning it into a soggy mess. The bread is so good! Well caramelized and good tooth without tearing up your gums. :)

A hidden gem of the perfect sandwich. This inconspicuous deli/cheese shop/grocery houses a small, but amazing sandwich maker. The ingredients are fresh, high quality, and fantastic but the cost is reasonable guaranteeing you getting a perfect sandwich for around $ 10. I ordered the«Smart Duck» sandwich: duck deli meat with slightly toasted brie cheese on french bread with veggies. The sandwich was served at the perfect temperature. This place has no seating, but it’s perfect for grab and go, whether it’s a sandwich to bring back to work or enjoy it in a park on a nice day. If you love sandwiches, then you’re doing yourself a big disservice by not going to Lamazou’s.

A full appreciation of the genius within Lamazou is a tough capture, given my first and only acquaintance with the many delicacies available. On a misty, dogday Thursday, I entered the comfortable yet luxuriantly abundant Italian delicatessen. Charcuterie and other seasoned and cured meats share prominent representation, wether dangling or particularly placed. Tallegio to Grana Padana, soft to hard, aged to young, Italian cheeses showcasing the diversity and simplicity of the eighteenth regions of their food loving origins. My kingdom for a little glass of Barolo right now. I went flush with excitement and struggled to put forth a definitive decision of one of the twenty two Lamazou Combo Sandwiche choices. A slow journey, sandwich by sandwich is the only way to eat through this menu, if I had my way. Such is the pleasure and curse addressing a select menu, befitting of royalty, the Earl of Sandwich to be sure, where to begin my ordering process? I decided on an Italian combo composed of a few hard salamis of my choice and a few loose cuts of Prosciutto(de Parma?) on super crusty bread. After the initial crunch, the hard bread and the hard meats morphed into a soft, buttery, almost melted texture. The combination of qualitiy and character in the meat selections, combined together under a unified bread, resulted in one of the best sandwichs in Manhattan for under ten dollars.

Craving Italian subs so made the trip from midtown down to kips bay… on a weekday hehe YOLO! Came here at 1:30pm on a Wednesday and there was no line. I had already decided at my desk that I was getting the #2: Lamazou Favorite(proscuitto, mozzarella, lettuce, tomato, roasted peppers, balsamic vinegar). The sandwich had a potent balsamic vinegar taste(which I didn’t mind cause I love vinegar), and all the ingredients were very fresh. Very good bread, and tasty tasty proscuitto. The Lamazou Favorite is a quality sandwich for sure and I have no regrets. But there’s just so many awesome sub places out there with same prices but larger portions that make it hard for me to justify coming back here when it’s out of the way for me. For this TYPE of sandwich, I’ll actually say that sandwiches at Sergimmo Salumeria are superior(get the VIP sandwich #1)

I hate it when people go into dive bars, then write a review that they couldn’t believe how nasty the bar looked or how they didn’t have some expensive vodka they like. My issue seems out of place for this review, however I assure you it’s not. I came here on the recommendation of the positive reviews of Unilocal. When I first came here I got something basic. Not that I’m basic, but it’s always safe to play it smart the first time you go into a new sandwich shop. Get something safe. I went with the Manou. Buffalo chicken, sun dried tomatoes, and smoked gouda. Good stuff, that being said I felt like 4 stars was warranted. It didn’t blow me away. Next time though the kids gloves came off. I got their special«Smart Duck» sandwich. Duck, Brie, Dijon Mustard, with cornichons. Wow. This was a win. The Brie melts against the duck. They blend perfectly together. Top notch stuff. Back to the beginning of my review. This is a gourmet sandwich shop. Don’t step in and act shocked about the prices or types of sandwiches. If you want something cheaper, they offer the ability to order a basic sandwich that will cost a buck or two more than a typical sandwich. If you want their specialty sandwiches, expect to pay twice as much as some local neighborhood lunch special. These are special ingredients, at a special shop. They cost more. Know what you’re getting yourself into before you come here.

i used to go here with my coworkers all the time and was so excited to be near it again. hands down one of the best sandwiches places around a really a hidden jem. all the of the sandwiches here are so good! one of my favorite is the toscana. even though i am a meat lover, the most favorite sandwich here of all is one with just smoked mozzarella. if you try it you will know why. you don’t even notice that you aren’t eating meat cause the smoked mozzarella makes up for it, and so well. the other sandwiches are also so good! a tip is that you can also get half sizes. don’t know why you would cause after one bite it will be hard to stop! and there is no seating btw.
